Updated 11/09/2025 | Published 11/08/2025

Question:

I currently have a -BWRVK3500-5W 5th wheel hitch on my 2012 GMC 2500 Denali. Im planning on getting a 2026 GMC 2500 Denali with the factory 5th wheel prep. Can any part of my existing hitch be used/adapted for use with the new vehicle specific hitches? Thanks

Hey Brad, congrats on your new truck! You can reuse the head of your B&W Companion item # BWRVK3500-5W. The Replacement Base for B&W Companion OEM 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch item # BWRVB3710 will allow you to reuse your Companion head and mount it in the puck system of your new truck.

The item # BWRVB3710 and your item # BWRVK3500-5W will essentially give you the B&W Companion OEM 5th Wheel Hitch item # BWRVK3710 you were looking at.

We also have the Replacement Slider Base item # BWRVB3775 if you're needing a sliding hitch.

What kind of 5th wheel trailer do you have?

I have a 2017 Keystone Cougar 303RLS - 35'. Pretty sure it's a Lippert pin box. My old truck had a 6 1/2' bed and new one will have the same. Existing B&W is not a slider base as Keystone dealer said the nose of the rv is shaped to not require a slider. It's worked ok so far but should I consider a slider? Thanks Jerred

@BradS I wouldn't if you're not having any issues. Your Keystone dealer is 100% correct with that nose being shaped to not need one. The bed lengths are the same so you're not going to be giving anything up clearance wise with the new truck. If you're planning on keeping your Keystone Cougar, I would stick with the item # BWRVB3710 base. If you're thinking about upgrading 5th wheel trailer's, and don't want to be locked into finding one with a short nose, it would be safe to pick up the Replacement Slider Base item # BWRVB3775.
