Firestone Ride-Rite Air Spring Basics

Firestone Ride-Rite springs are designed to increase safety and reduce the strain on your vehicle when you are hauling heavy loads or towing a heavy trailer. The springs partner with your existing rear suspension system to help keep your truck level, maintain even load distribution and increase stability. Hauling heavy loads or towing a heavy trailer can make the rear of your truck sag and the front end rise. This puts more strain on your rear axle and reduces contact between your front tires and the road, causing problems with braking, steering control and traction. By adding air springs to your rear suspension, you can help to level your truck and improve braking and handling. The air springs also help to level your headlight beams and reduce wear on your tires.

Adjustable Air Pressure

Firestone Ride-Rite air spring airline installation

The air pressure in your Ride-Rite springs can be adjusted manually, side to side, to compensate for off-center loads. A centered load improves the stability of your truck by reducing body roll. The air springs will also help to absorb road shock and to soften contact between your axle and frame. This prevents bottoming out, thus improving ride comfort. Route the air line tubing for the springs to your truck's bumper to provide easy access to the manual inflation valves.

Air Spring Construction

RED Label spring construction

Unlike standard Ride-Rite air springs, the RED Label air springs operate up to 150 psi to maximize its weight capacity. The springs have four layers of reinforced rubber to ensure durability and enhance load support. A braided wire girdle creates the double-convoluted shape of each air spring, increasing the burst pressure of the spring. The rubber springs are attached to corrosion-resistant metal end plates with a time-proven, rolled crimp seal that keeps the bags securely anchored.

Air Spring Installation

Each RED Label kit includes vehicle-specific brackets, fasteners, and hardware for fast, no-drill installation. The hardware installs directly on your axle and frame and the air springs install onto the mounting points provided by the brackets. Additional equipment like control panels, compressors, and air tanks are sold separately.

  • Differences In Firestone Ride-Rite F2709 and Red Label F2613 For 2023 GMC Sierra 3500
The differences between the Firestone Ride Rite # F2613 and the Red Label # F2709 for your 2023 GMC Sierra 3500 Crew Cab Long Bed is the air pressure and max weight capacity. The Ride-Rite # F2613 are rated for 5,000lbs and 100 PSI, where the Red Label # F2709 are rated for 7,500lbs and 150 PSI. Since you have only 2280lbs of pin weight there is zero reason to go with the heavy duty bags, as you are well within the range of the # F2613 so that's what I recommend. I do also recommend...

  • Rear Suspension Helper Springs for a 2018 GMC Sierra 2500 Towing a 5th Wheel Trailer
Hello, I will be happy to help you select some helper springs to improve the ride and level out the truck when you are towing. Timbren springs are an easy install but they will make the ride stiffer when you are not towing. The similar SumoSprings Solo # SSR-207-47 will also level out the truck but will not be as stiff when not towing compared to the Timbren springs. Another option to consider is RoadActive Suspension # RAS3611-HD. Installation is easy with this kit as well. It will...

  • Air Bags for 2025 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 ZR2 With 7,500 lb Capacity and Wireless Air Compressor
Hi Mike; the best option for your 2025 Silverado 2500 ZR2 is definitely the Firestone Ride-Rite Red Label Extreme Duty Air Helper Springs # F2709 you looked at. These are going to be the most reliable and durable air bags out there. With a max psi of 150 lbs you will need a heavy duty air compressor like the Firestone Air Command # F99VV. This is controlled via the app with your phone and is a dual path system so you can adjust each air bag individually.

  • What is the Proper Pin Weight Percentage of the Total Weight for a 5th Wheel Trailer
Definitely false. You want to shoot for the pin weight of a 5th wheel trailer to be about 20% of the loaded weight of the trailer. If the hitch weight of your trailer is 2,000 lbs though that entire pin weight is transferred, not just a portion of the pin weight. This is actually reflected in the weight ratings for 5th wheel trailer hitches (and can usually be found in the owner's manual for your trailer). If you check out the popular B&W Companion # BWRVK3500 you can see that the gross...

  • Suspension Enhancement for 2020 GMC Sierra 2500
If you're towing most of the time then I would go with the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System # TGMRCK25D. These will provide the most support for your 2020 GMC Sierra 2500 while towing your 5th wheel. If you're more concerned about ride quality then the RoadActive Suspension # RAS3611-HD would be the better choice. The Timbren has a tendency to be a bit rough when you aren't towing or hauling. If you want the best option possible I would go with the Firestone Air Bags # F2709....

  • Offset Gooseneck Ball For 2024 GMC Sierra 3500 with OEM Prep Package
Hello Aaron. I have the perfect solution for you, the Gen-Y Hitch Gooseneck Trailer Hitch for GM OEM Puck Systems - 5" Offset - 25,000 lbs # GY55XR. This will bring the ball forward by 5" and should line you up over the axle. After you try out the offset gooseneck ball if you are still seeing some sagging you might want to consider getting some air bags. I am not sure how heavy of a load you are pulling, so I have 2 different options for you: - For 7,500 lbs: Firestone Ride-Rite Red...

  • Why Are 100psi Rated Compressors Being Recommended For Air Springs With 150psi Capacities
Hey Michael, If your air springs can go to 150psi then you really should go with a 150psi rated compressor so that you can fully utilize your springs. In those other answers there could've been some other factor that made that lower rated compressor the best option but that's very specific to the situation that neighbor is in. Firestone's compressor systems just weren't as good as the competitors in some of those situations or the neighbor just didn't want to have to drill an analog gauge...

  • Comparing the Air Lift 7500 Airbags vs Firestone 7500 Airbags for a 2015 GMC Sierra 3500
For your 2015 GMC Sierra 3500 Denali DRW 4x4, I recommend using the Firestone Ride-Rite Red Label Extreme Duty Air Helper Springs part # F2709 over the Air Lift LoadLifter 7500 XL Air Helper Springs part # AL57538 for two reasons. The first reason is that the Air Lift kit requires drilling into the frame (minimal) whereas the Firestone kit is completely drill free. The second reason is in regards to the construction of the airbags. The Firestone airbags use a crimp rolled design which is...

Hey Jim congrats on the new truck! You won't need to fabricate anything. I checked with Firestone and their air bag kits do work with your 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 with the ZR2 package. I recommend picking up the Firestone Ride-Rite Red Label Extreme Duty Air Helper Springs # F2709 along with the Lift Spacers # F2366 to accommodate the 1.5" lift on your 2024 GMC Sierra 2500 AT4X. It would also be a good idea to consider installing an air compressor kit like the Firestone Air Command Heavy...

  • Recommended Air Bag Kit For A 2024 GMC Denali HD2500 Towing a 10,000 lb Camper
Thanks for reaching out, Marvin. For your 2024 GMC Denali 2500 I recommend the Firestone Ride-Rite Air Helper Springs # F2613. These are 5,000 lb capacity bags which will be more than enough to level your ride and support your suspension while towing your camper. Air bags do require air in them at all times though. The minimum PSI is 5, so you will want to keep them filled to at least 5 PSI when you are not towing. Then when you need to tow you will hook up your trailer and fill the bags...

  • Do I Need a Spacer for a 2024 Chevy Silverado 2500 w/ a 1" Rear Lift?
No, it won't. The Firestone Ride-Rite Axle Spacer Bracket for Lifted Vehicles item # F5557 only works with one air bag kit and it is the Firestone Ride-Rite Air Helper Springs item # F2400. Yours does not have an equivalent part. A spacer kit shouldn't be needed for your 2024 Silverado 2500 when using the Firestone item # F2709 because you only have 1" of lift. Firestone doesn't even make a 1" spacer. If you think there's too much space, you can always add the 1-1/2 inch Lift Spacers...

While the Air Lift Load Controller II Compressor System # AL25592 can be used with the Firestone Ride-Rite Red Label Extreme Duty Air Helper Springs # F2709 on your 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 2500, I recommend against this. The Air Lift compressor system is rated for up to 100psi while the Firestone springs are capable of supporting up to 150psi. The 7,500 lb Firestone Ride-Rite Red Label Extreme Duty Air Helper Springs # F2709 are honestly overkill for your 2024 Chevy Silverado 2500 so I recommend the 5,000 lb Firestone Ride-Rite Air Helper Springs # F2613. Even if you're towing a bigger 5th wheel trailer the pin weight isn't going to be more than the 5k capacity of the standard Ride-Rite springs, and you'd be paying more without getting any real benefit. Going with air bags is really smart to support your Chevy's suspension,...
