Have approached several RV an Tow experts for a solution to a car/motorcycle tow combination for months. Came across Etrailer on the Internet, and “asked their expert” for a suggestion. They suggested a heavy duty dual receiver that was substantial enough to accommodate any tow combination requirements. Their advice was “dead-on” right, and I ordered the parts and they were delivered a few days later.

Their expertise is excellent, as is the ease of doing business with them. I can enthusiastically recommend this organization, and the professionals working with them!

Nick was very helpful and helped me decide which hitch would work best for me. Hitch arrived on time and was a very heavy hitch that should do anything I need it for.

Got this to carry our electric bikes between the motorhome and tow vehicle. Works great.

Looks like an extremely well built product. Glad I made the choice I did in buying this ball mount.

  • Options for Hauling Bikes and a nuCamp T@G Trailer
Hey Sharlene, thanks for reaching out! I have a few options for you to look at, but ultimately there aren't any ball mounts that sit further out and have a receiver on top of them with enough clearance for your bike rack. The first option would be to use the Gen-Y Replacement Shank # 325-GH-304 which gives you the ability to hold the bike rack up a little over 6" above the ball mount itself. The second option is to use the Lets Go Aero Jack-It PLUS Bike Rack # LGA47ZR which mounts in...

  • Does the Use of a Dual Hitch Adapter Reduce Tongue Weight Capacity
You are correct, the use of an adapter typically reduces the tongue weight capacity by 50%, but the amount can vary slightly. Since you are towing a trailer, you do not want to use the Roadmaster Dual Hitch Receiver Adapter, 6" Drop/Rise # RM-077-6 since it is designed for flat towing. As for the other dual hitch adapters available, I checked and they all reduce capacity by 50% so that would leave you overloaded. I do, however, have a solution. I recommend using the Replacement Shank...

  • Recommended Adjustable Ball Mount w/ 6" Rise for a Motorcycle Carrier
What you read was true in most cases but you do not need an adapter. What you need is the Replacement Shank for Gen-Y Adjustable Ball Mount item # 325-GH-304. This has four stacked 2" receivers that will allow you to mount your motorcycle carrier and not lose any of your hitches capacity. The Gen-Y item # 325-GH-304 has a tongue weight capacity of 1,500 lbs and will give you a rise up to 7-1/2". The Curt High-Low Adapter for Tow Bars item # C26FV you were looking at can only be used...

  • Towing Utility Trailer With Bike Rack While Needing More Rise From Ball Mount
I think we have a solution for you here, but the two parts you mentioned are using an adapter and adapter together. What you can do instead is which is use a Gen-Y ball mount shanks with stacked receivers. This gives you the ability use both a ball mount and bike rack, stacked at different heights so they don't interfere with each other. I'm not sure how much more rise you need, so here are a couple options: - 7-1/2" Drop/Rise: Shank for Gen-Y Adjustable Ball Mount # 325-GH-304 - 10"...

  • Does Using Gen-Y Stacked Receiver as Hitch Adapter Reduce Tongue Weight Capacity
Hey Matt, yes you can put a ball mount into the Gen-Y Shank part # 325-GH-304 that you referenced like the # D-26 and according to Gen-Y this will not reduce the hitch's tongue weight capacity like a standard hitch adapter would. The # D-26 is a longer ball mount though so I would still recommend using your best judgment and if you are close to your tongue weight capacity maybe consider something different.

  • Availability of Riser and Extended That Doesn't Reduce Hitch Capacity
Hey Jeff! The Yakima EXO # Y54ZR is a great all in one solution that will work well on an E-350. You can also get the enclosed cargo box version # Y34ZR. Another great thing about this system is if you don't need to carry the bikes you can always add more storage, or if you only need to carry the bikes you can pull the top tray and mount the bikes on the bottom. Since it is all part of the same system you also get everything keyed alike for security. If you want to explore using a separate...

  • Can an Extender be Used with the Roadmaster High-Low Adapter for Bike Rack Clearance?
That's definitely not a good situation. If you raise the bike rack up a bit will that give you the clearance you're needing? Adding another extender to your Roadmaster Adapter # RM-048-6 is never a good idea because it adds more potential fail points and pretty much every adapter manufacturer states not to use more than one adapter either. What I like to recommend to people is the Replacement Shank for Gen-Y Adjustable Ball Mount # 325-GH-304. If you flip it upside down you can use the...

  • Shank Recommendation for Towing a Pop-Up Camper and an e-Bike Rack
Hey Erica, thanks for reaching out! The Curt Multipurpose Ball Mount # D210 you're looking at was initially designed for what you're needing to do, but it fits better with a hanging rack which won't be strong enough for your e-Bikes. Typically in this situation I recommend the Gen-Y Shank # 325-GH-304 because it's more of a heavy-duty shank and will be able to handle the weight of your trailer as well as your bike rack and e-Bikes just fine. Would the 7-1/2" rise give your bike rack enough...

It's not a traditional shank though that you would see on a hitch. It only works with the Jack-It 2 Bike Rack for A-Frame Trailers. If you're trying to double up your hitch to use a bike rack and tow a trailer you'll need to use something like the Replacement Shank item # 325-GH-304. This won't mess with your...

  • Can the Roadmaster Dual Hitch Receiver RM-077-10 Be Used to Tow a Trailer?
No, you can't but I have something that'll work better and save you some money. It is the Replacement Shank item # 325-GH-304. This stacked receiver design will allow you to tow a trailer or flat tow a vehicle and use an accessory in one of the other receiver openings simultaneously. The Roadmaster Dual Hitch Receiver Adapter item # RM-077-10 can only be used for flat towing and an accessory. You can not tow a trailer with it.

  • Can the Blue Ox Adjustable Hitch be Used for a Bike Rack?
Hey Weston! The difference is that Blue Ox says to only use the Adapter # BLU28XR for flat towing. It sounds silly, but functionally this will hold a bike rack, we just have to go by what Blue Ox says because they have tested and approved it for different things. I will say that tow bars don't have as much tongue weight as bike racks do because tow bars are designed to pull a vehicle horizontally while bike racks put more vertical weight on the hitch receiver. For an alternative I recommend...

  • Availability of 2" to 1-1/4" Reducer With Built-In Rise for Bike Rack
Hi LDJ; we have reducers like the # e63YR but none with a built in rise. What you can do is pair it with Gen-Y stacked receivers like the # 325-GH-303 with a 5" rise/drop or # 325-GH-304 with a 7-1/2" rise/drop. The design prevents any reduction in hitch capacity like other adapters and will get you the extra clearance. The Gen-Y is pretty solid but I recommend using an anti-rattle like # GY88XR to help reduce unwanted movement as you add more parts to your bike rack setup.

Hi Cheryl; thank you for providing that picture to clarify. Your typical ball mount won't have the space for that bracket but I think we can work around it by putting some parts together. What you can use is the Replacement Shank for Gen-Y Adjustable Ball Mount # 325-GH-304. This has a 7-1/2" drop/rise and fits a 2" receiver. Hi Riley; almost all adapters like this will reduce the capacity by 50% but I do have a solution. What you can use is the Replacement Shank for Gen-Y Adjustable Ball Mount # 325-GH-304. The Gen-Y is built like a tank and does not reduce the capacity. The stacked receivers give you a variety of height options to carry your bike rack while towing your trailer. I would say throw a hitch on the trailer and then add the bike rack but none of the racks with a high enough capacity are rated for a travel trailer. For a hitch adapter I recommend using the Gen-Y stacked receivers like the # 325-GH-305. Unlike normal adapters this will not cut your hitch capacity in half. It also gives you good options for rise to clear your trailer jack and propane. I'm not totally sure what clearance you need without trying it or taking measurements but I can help...

  • Best Bike Rack for 2 Mountain e-Bikes on a Flat Towing Setup
Hey Alan, thanks for reaching out! The Yakima OnRamp LX Bike Rack # Y88DJ is the best option for your situation. Not all bike racks are rated for use on a flat-towed vehicle, and not all of them are rated for 60 lb+ bikes, but the OnRamp LX meets both of these criteria and also comes with a ramp so it's easier to load and unload. Thanks for the pictures, that's a very cute dog! It would be too dangerous to use the Curt Extender # C45796 with a dual receiver like that as it would put too much movement on all of the different parts and extenders like this cut your tongue weight in half so your Tacoma would be overloaded. There really isn't an option to lower your hitch 6 inches and carry 400 lb motorcycle with carrier. The Roadmaster Dual Hitch Receiver Adapter, 6" Drop/Rise # RM-077-6 is the strongest option with a 400 lb tongue weight capacity that doesn't account for the weight of the carrier, so is not a working option.
