What you read was true in most cases but you do not need an adapter. What you need is the Replacement Shank for Gen-Y Adjustable Ball Mount item # 325-GH-304. This has four stacked 2" receivers that will allow you to mount your motorcycle carrier and not lose any of your hitches capacity.
The Gen-Y item # 325-GH-304 has a tongue weight capacity of 1,500 lbs and will give you a rise up to 7-1/2".
The Curt High-Low Adapter for Tow Bars item # C26FV you were looking at can only be used for flat towing.
