Shank Recommendation for Towing a Pop-Up Camper and an e-Bike Rack

Updated 08/26/2025 | Published 08/22/2025

Question:

Hello, I have a super lightweight pop-up camper and bought the hitch linked below from etrailer. My plan was to pull my camper and put on an ebike rack, but I dont have the space for proper turning radius. I am considering a tongue extender. What would you recommend? Thank you. CURT D210

Hey Erica, thanks for reaching out!

The Curt Multipurpose Ball Mount # D210 you're looking at was initially designed for what you're needing to do, but it fits better with a hanging rack which won't be strong enough for your e-Bikes.

Typically in this situation I recommend the Gen-Y Shank # 325-GH-304 because it's more of a heavy-duty shank and will be able to handle the weight of your trailer as well as your bike rack and e-Bikes just fine. Would the 7-1/2" rise give your bike rack enough clearance over your trailer so it works?

Hi Jon, We already own the curt multipurpose ball mount. What I was imagining was a longer tongue coupler so I had more space horizontally, but that might not exist! Our current is 11 or 12 inches long, 2 inch ball.

@EricaW Do you mean more horizontal space between the accessory coupler above and the hitch ball location on the bottom side?

@JonG I mean I want to add space between my car and the trailer.

@Erica Sorry if I'm misunderstanding the whole situation. Is the problem that your bike/bike rack was making contact with your trailer during turns, or that the trailer is coming into contact with your vehicle on turns?
