Trailer Axles with 80 Inch Spring Center for easy fit
Get the frame spacing you need with an 80 inch spring center on your trailer axle. Match your hub face and spring center measurements for proper tire clearance and tracking; spring seats can be moved within a range when needed. If you want more height, use an over/under kit to move the leaf springs above the axle instead of flipping a drop axle.
Do not flip a drop or underslung axle to gain rise. Use an over/under conversion to move the leaf springs to the top of the axle. Lift is roughly the axle's diameter plus the height of the leaf spring pack. This setup is for double-eye springs. Measure your axle diameter (for example, 2-3/8" round) before choosing parts.
Match your hub face and spring center measurements first. For 3,500 lb straight axles the spring center can be moved within an 11.25" Min and 18" Max range. For 3,500 lb 4" drop axles the spring center range is 14.00" Min and 18" Max. If relocating spring seats, confirm they stay within the specified range and centered in the frame rails.
Installation is typically straightforward. Check if backing plates arrive fully assembled and if brake wires are routed inside the tube for a cleaner run. Be ready to adjust brake shoes after the hub assembly. Inspect for light rust on ends, confirm studs are fully seated, and verify needed nuts are included. Check threads for damage before mounting hubs.
Plan for a minimum of 1" between the tire and frame. A 225/75R15 is 9.25" wide, so allocate 10.25" of space on each side. On a 3,500 lb 4" drop axle the spring center must sit 14" to 23" from the hub face; set your frame width so the spring seats land within that range and leave the tire-to-frame clearance you need.
