Can TPMS Be Used With The Tamarack Trailer Tire with Black Mod Wheel TA76AR?

Updated 05/15/2026 | Published 05/14/2026

Question:

Is the valve stem for this tire that shows part metal suitable for an aftermarket TPMS system with stem caps as sensors? I wasnt sure it the stem is entirely metal with a plastic cover at the base or if its only partially metal, in which case TPMS sensor vibration could cause the non-metal part to fail.

Hi Kevin!

You can definitely put aftermarket TPMS on this tire/wheel combo! The Tamarack ST225/75R15 Trailer Tire with Black Mod Wheel - 6 on 5-1/2 - Bead Balanced # TA76AR includes a fairly heavy duty valve stem, so that is no problem at all. It's not fully metal, which some TPMS manufacturers recommend (though don't necessarily require), but it will still handle it perfectly fine.

That said, if you wanted to swap them out for metal valve stems, you would want the Americana Metal, Bolt-In Valve Stem - 1-1/4" Long # AM20906. We don't currently have a way to mount tires at our facility, so you would need to go to a tire shop to have this done though.

What kind of trailer are you wanting this wheel for? And do you already have a TPMS picked out? We have a few really good options if you don't.

This is the exact tire/rim and stem valve on my new 2025 Winnebago Access 15RB camper and I’m wanting to make sure that I don’t create a problem that didn’t exist by adding the TPMS external sensors, which various forums warn about with rubber stems. It sounds like these heavy duty high pressure stems would be okay without similar risk of stem failure from the vibration. Thanks!

@KevinT Gotcha. It typically is better to have all metal valve stems when using TPMS. Cool camper as well! What the next trip you have planned with it?
