Bias Tires vs. Radial Tires

Bias vs. radial tire graphic

Bias ply tires are designed for off-road or agricultural applications. They are built with thick, durable nylon cords that are positioned at a 30- to 45-degree angle to the direction of travel. The layers alternate in a crisscross pattern, making the sidewalls stiffer so that the entire tire is able to flex easily. As a result, the tire provides a smooth ride and improved handling when trailering on uneven surfaces.

The tires received were as expected. the packaging more than adequate.
Satisfied with product and transaction.

by:

The service I received was 5 star. I will have to write about the product at another time as I have not used the product yet . I will mount the new tires on the boat trailer tomorrow. The speed in which I received the product was so quick it actually surprised me. Thank you. New tires on the boat trailer is like having homemade ice cream with your grandparents on a Sunday afternoon. Nothing better.
Off to the lake tomorrow afternoon to catch a mess of crappie.

by:

I have these tires on a camper trailer that I tow behind my motorcycle. The tires have gone over 9000 miles and show little wear. Typically the load on the tires is around 500 pounds. I am very pleased with them.

by:

Have no problems

by:

Delivered as promissed. Past reviews mentioned tires "flattened" in a box, thus hard to install...not the case with me. Very well packed in full size box so tires are in perfect condition ready to go right out of the box!

by:

Excellent quality. Perfect fit.

by:

Thank you for your service, both prompt and professional. Looking forward to my next purchase here

by:

I bought new tires and galvanized rims for my snow mobile trailer and boat trailer.
After one year I am still happy with my purchase. I also bought the Fulton 5K marine jack
And love it. I haven't had any trouble at all with tires, rims, or Jack.
Service was great too!

This tire blew out on my first trip with it going 70MPH down I-75. It is rated as a high speed tire but did not hold up as one. Bought two tires and only one blew out.

These small Bias-Ply tires are OK to us on the highway but keep it to 55-60 mph. Between their size and construction, 70 mph is just too much.

by:

Just what I wanted, and I received it in a timely manner.

by:

The tires arrived quickly, as usual with e-trailer, and were exactly as ordered. My only "complaint" is that they were smashed flat as a pancake. They almost looked like bicycle tires; this made it difficult to seat the bead but a technique learned from the internet saved the day. I won't expound since it is not recommended and considered extremely dangerous/ill advised. I advise people not to buy these tires if they are going to mount them themselves and are not comfortable using a "shade tree" mechanic trick to seat the bead.

by:

I purchased chrome wheels and tires for my motorcycle trailer. Excellent products and quick delivery! I would definitely buy from etrailer.com again.

by:

They look like new tires. I have used kenda on my bicycle for years but I'd have to put a few thousand miles on these before I rate them.
As usual, I appreciate the prompt service from Etrailer. Dave

I mounted them myself and had a local tire dealer balance them. One didnt require any wheel weights. They have about 5000 miles on them now and are smooth running, no visible wear. I like them.

Exceptional experience! First time I ever purchased tires online and it was a breeze. The website is super user friendly and prices are really reasonable. I needed tires in a hurry for my waverunner trailer. Packaging was neat, secure and easy to move around (box included open handles). Extremely fast shipping too. I highly recommend etrailer and will be buying from them again and recommending them to all my family, friends and neighbors.

by:

Good looking wheels

by:

The trailer tires came very fast and I assume they are good tires. I know nothing about them. I got them for a boat trailer my deceased husband left to his son. I don't know when they will be put on the trailer.

by:

Great tires! Same tires that are currently on trailer. Never had a problem with them, only replacing as preventive maintenance due to age of ones on trailer now.

by:

It isa pleasure to do business with this company. communication is fantastic prices are very fair and the products are very very good!

by:

Thanks etrailer an on line company that has a great website, delivery taking system, and fast shipping.....and quality products.
Bill G.

by:

Good looking tire to match the new ones I got from you. Will mount on wheel i have for spare. I always like having a spare when pulling a trailer and could not beat your price

by:

good ordering and delivery. I could of got my purchase cheeper but its nice to get it on time and in good shape. Last time I ordered tires they sent them with a wire tie all around one side and made them a bear to mount . BUT IT WASN'T FROM ETRAILER

by:

Excellent replacement tires for my boat trailer and reasonably priced.
Superb customer service from start to finish. Highly recommend this company to others.

by:

Website has good information as to how to select a trailer tire - very helpful. Prices are competitive. Shipping was fast.

by:

Good tire and arrived fast

Only
complaint is both tires were so crushed it was a huge pain to mount.

by:

Very well built and easy to put on. etrailer was prompt and the price was good.

  • Weight Capacity of the Trailer Tire Size 4.80-12 in Load Range B
For trailer tires that are size 4.80-12 in a Load Range B like the part # AM10060 the weight capacity is 785 lbs at 60 psi. You should note that with trailer tires you have to have them inflated to their max PSI at all times to get the full capacity.

  • What Is Maximum Speed For 4.80 x 12 TowMaster Tire
Typically special trailer tires are usually rated to operate at a maximum speed of 65 mph. Look at your tires and see if the top speed is stamped into the sidewall of your tire by the manufacturer. Not all trailer tires have the same speed ratings so your TowMaster, which we do not carry, could be different. We do carry a similar 4.80-12 tire called the Kenda K353 Bias Trailer Tire-4.80-12, Item # AM10060, which has a maximum load of 785-lbs at 60 psi with a maximum speed of 65 mph....

The Kenda K353 Bias Trailer Tire - 4.80-12 - Load Range B # AM10060 is rated for a max speed of 65 mph. I've attached an article that will assist with other questions you may have as well.

  • Are Tire Weight Capacities Per Tire or Per Pair?
Trailer tires are rated by tire individually. For example, if you have the Kenda K353 Bias Trailer Tire - 4.80-12 - Load Range B # AM10060, this tire is rated at 785 pounds at 60 psi. Therefore, you will have 1,570 pound total on that axle. It is important to note that you still need to consider the weight capacities on other components on the trailer. You need to abide by the lowest weight rating that you have.

  • Does The Maximum Load Range Capacity Apply Per Tire
Yes, you are correct that the referred to load capacity means that the Kenda K353 Bias Trailer Tire # AM10060 can support up to 785 pound each when properly inflated. Included is additional information in a great video overview.

  • What is the PSI Rating For The Kenda 4.80-12 K353 Bias Trailer Tire # AM10060?
The Kenda K353 Bias Trailer Tire # AM10060 is rated for 60psi cold inflation pressure. I do recommend verifying this information on your specific tire as it may be different depending on your load rating. This tire is a load range B.

  • What Tire Pressure Should the Kenda K353 be Inflated to
With trailer tires you always want to run the max tire pressure listed on the sidewall. This ensures that you get the full weight capacity for the tire and prevents heat build up. The part # AM10060 has a 60 psi max rating so that would be the pressure to use. You also want to inflate to the recommended psi when the tires are cold.

  • Recommended Tire Pressure for Kenda K353 Bias Trailer Tire Load Range B
For starters, the recommended tire pressure will vary by model. There is not a standard tire pressure to use in all tires even of the same size. The correct tire pressure will be listed on the sidewall. If you have the Kenda K353 Bias Trailer Tire part # AM10060 these need to be filled to 60 psi.

  • Speed Rating for Kenda K353 Bias Trailer Tire - 4.80-12 - Load Range B
Kenda K353 Bias Trailer Tire - 4.80-12 - Load Range B # AM10060 is rated for a maximum of 65 miles per hour. Provided you stay under 65 you would be at a safe cruising speed. Trailer tires should always be inflated to the maximum psi indicated on the tire sidewall. This is because trailer tires are built with a thicker sidewall than passenger vehicle tires to handle more vertical load. If under inflated the thicker sidewall generates excessive heat and can lead to failure.

This is the information on the warranty for directly from Kenda for the Kenda K353 Bias Trailer Tire # AM10060. "Check air pressure monthly when tires are “cold”. Use an accurate tire air pressure gauge. Do not reduce pressure when tires are hot. Proper inflation is essential. Underinflation produces flexing of sidewalls and builds up heat to the point that premature tire failure may occur. Overinflation can cause the tire to be more susceptible to impact damage." • Can Trailer With 5.30-12 Tires Use 4.80-12 Size Tires as Spares
We highly recommend a trailer's spare tire always be the same size as the current tires. The reason is if you use one tire that is a different size than the others, not only will all of the tires wear quicker and unevenly, but the trailer won't track behind your tow vehicle as well and you are prone to suspension issues on the trailer, which can occur somewhat rapidly. For example, the Kenda K353 Bias Trailer Tire - 4.80-12 # AM10060 is 4.8" wide and has a 20.5" diameter while the Kenda...

To select the properly rated trailer tires for your tandem axle pontoon boat trailer you need to get four tires that have a combined capacity exceeding that of your trailer's GVWR. For trailers tires that are size 4.80-12 you would be able to use the Load Range B Kenda # AM10060 if your trailer's GVWR was 3,140 lbs or less. The reason for this is four of these tires, each with a 785 lb maximum capacity, can handle up to a 3,140 lb load. If your trailer's GVWR was up to 3,960 lbs you...

That's going to depend on how much your boat actually weighs. A 4.80-12 load range B tire like # AM10060 is rated for around 785lbs per tire, where the load range C version # AM10062 is rated for 990lbs per tire instead. I'd take your trailer to a local weigh station and see how much it weighs, and go with the lighter tire if you safely can. • Are 4.80 or 5.30 Trailer Tires Better
The 5.30-12 tires will have higher ratings than the 4.80-12 tires so in a sense they are "better", but it's really just relative to your trailer situation since having a tire that's rated significantly higher than your trailer weight can actually cause the trailer to "bounce" and have more of a rough ride. Yes. Kenda recommends running their tires at the max psi when inflated cold no matter the weight on the trailer. When tires wear down in the center of the tread that indicates that the tires are over inflated or like you said they are not weighed down when the trailer is loaded so only the center of the tread is meeting the road. Going with a lower capacity tire of the same size is fine as long as the capacity is still enough to handle the gross trailer weight. The lower psi rating may or may not help. Only time will tell for sure. For a load range B tire in 4.80-12 size use # AM10060.
