Installation
This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's factory tow package wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side interior trim panel in your rear cargo area.
Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed in an out-of-the-way location within your cargo area.
It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plug on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Product and video instructions were great. It was easy to install. Unfortunately, since I am a novice at this, I ordered the wrong wiring harness. I had to order a second one that did not list it as being for a 'factory Tow Package' so that it included an additional part (compare Product 56042 and C56217).
This is a plug and play replacement for Toyota's poor placement of the one in a new Toyota Highlander.
One of reasons why I went with you guys was I really loved your step by step videos, something that other competitors does not have other than written notes. Only thing could have been better was that I wish I knew my vehicle did not have the whole towing package, learned that it had only portion of setup and previous owner removed the module portion for it. Learned that hard way but glad it worked out and its still working great. Thanks for great products for great price along with good support. Thank you!
Just a heads up for Toyota Highlander owners. My Highlander had the towing package from the factory but I still needed the converter and wiring harness combo etrailer package.
This one seems to be working fine. I'm still disappointed that I was able to order a harness that was not for my vehicle though I was in my vehicle match for wiring and it was at my cost to return and it was almost half the price to do so.
it was some wires and a connector. not too much to say.
Took longer to clean out my junk in the back then to install it. Video on installation was spot on. Everything I have ever purchased and installed has been super easy. From wiring to several hitch receivers.
Made well, came with everything needed instructions, zip ties etc
After balking at the cost to have an auto-shop add a trailer to our Toyota Highlander, we found etrailer.com and decided to take a chance. The "how to" videos factored considerably in our decision to buy ... they made it look so easy! And surprise! It really -WAS- that easy. We used standard block-type ramps (the kind you can buy for $40 ) to get the SUV up off the ground high enough to get underneath to do the work. Everything came off as easy as it was showed in the videos. Other than the fact this bar is a heavy so we had our teen daughter help hold it steady while we bolted it into place (i.e., get help for when you go to lift it), it went super smooth. Thanks for saving us $280 over the cost the car dealer quoted us! P.S. - be sure to watch the linked videos so you get the right trailer lighting attachment and ball hitch for your new hitch.

Your videos were enormously helpful, the hitch went on easily with a bit of help from our teenage daughter to lift it up into place, and we recommend your business to friends when they express an interest in getting a camper.
This wiring harness was a huge time-saver over wiring things manually like we did for our last trailer hitch a long-long-long time ago! If you're not sure what to buy, watch the videos they have to make sure you get the correct one for your needs. We saved a HUGE amount of money over what the auto dealer quoted us for the exact same thing, and as a bonus, the how-to videos made it really easy to attach it ourselves. Yes, it really -is- that easy.

Super easy to install
When I received the hitch, it was halfway out of the box. I tried to install the hitch myself and could have if the hitch had not been bent. Had to take it to a local U-Haul and pay $[XX] to bend back and install. Should have just gone there first. Would have saved time and effort. The wiring harness didn’t work as well so I had to pay another $[XX] for them to fix that.

2012 highlander had factory tow package. This harness mounted in fine to the factory plug in the back but there was no power at the connector. After some research I found that I still needed to go to the dealer and purchase a $100 towing converter that plugs in under the dash on the left side.

It sounds like your 2012 Toyota Highlander didnt come with the factory tow package and that you would have needed part # C56217. It includes the additional wiring component that installs under the dash to complete towing circuit.
Great ordering and quick delivery. Product was just as described and super easy to install. Just a little disapoited in the wireharness that was available as it does not have a bracket to clamp to the hitch and will need to be replpaced. Make sure to order the correct one.
***READ THIS*** Great product, easy install *BUT* This might help someone else. I called the dealer and found that my 2012 Toyota Highlander has the " V-6 Towing Prep Package" I had assumed that was the factory towing package, I was wrong. Save yourself the trouble and physically look under the dash for the white connector as well, if nothing (no converter) is plugged into it, you will need the other wiring kit with the converter. [one of etrailer.com videos] clearly shows the connector I'm talking about on a 2012 Highlander I have now ordered the correct part. I am still very happy doing business with etrailer.com Thanks!
The product is amazing. I will say that the company that installed the hitch did not hook the lights up correctly and they trailer lights still do not work. It has nothing to do with the product. I am hoping that I will be able to take it back and get it fixed next week.
We installed it on our 2017 Toyota Highlander Hybrid and it was so easy. Thanks for saving us hundreds over what the dealer wanted to do it! Took us about 10 minutes, following the video instruction was a breeze.
parts arrived ahead of schedule and in good order. Had it installed locally by a professional and am very pleased with the results, thank you! Order included: Draw Tite hitch receiver / tongue kit with 2 drop/raise sizes & 2 ball sizes / wiring, wire tester / for 2008 Highlander.
The product is as advertised. The only complaint and it has nothing to do with etailer.com. UPS is the original shipper the part arrived to my hometown 3 days after it was ordered but because UPS dropped it off to USPS to deliver, it took a total of 7 days to arrive. Its a little annoying..

Very pleased with the trailer hitch. Very easy installation and directions were excellent. I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a after market hitch.The wire harness worked like a champ.The whole job looks great.

A year later and its working great like day one of its installation. Quality wiring that fit my 2012 Toyota Highlander flawlessly.
I bought the trailer hitch and required parts for my husband for Christmas. I had them install this week. All necessary parts were included and the dealership had no difficulty with the installation. Thank you.
