Question:
HOW CAN I FIND OUT IF I HAVE A FACTORY TOWING WIRE HARNESS?

To determine if a 2017 Toyota HIghlander has a factory towing harness, start by opening up the rear hatch. Then, lift up on the rear compartment panel and pull it out. Remove the two driver-side panels by pulling up on them. There, you may see a factory 4-pole. If you do, then you know for sure you have the factory towing harness. If you do not, you may still have one that didn't come with the 4-pole connector so continue to the next steps.
Pull up on the tabs connecting the floor covering and the bottom panel. Remove the 10mm nut on the left side of the bottom panel and pull the panel out. There, you should see the towing harness and plug for the connector box. If you see a connector box connected to the plug, then you have the factory towing package and just need a 4-pole connector like the Curt Harness, part # 56042.
If you don't see a connector box connected, then you don't have the factory tow package, and you need a connector like the Curt Connector, part # C56217.
I've included links to video installations of both of these products so you can see exactly what you're looking for.
For whichever scenario you end up with, be sure to test that the connection is working with a 4-pole tester like part # I26.
