Question:
I need to install a trailer wiring connector on my 2019 Highlander for the trailer lights. How do I tell if I have the tow package or not so I can make sure I get the correct wiring?

Basically what it boils down to is that if you have the tow package you'll already have a 4-Way trailer wiring connector on your 2019 Toyota Highlander so if you don't already have one odds are you need a wiring kit with the converter like the Curt # C56217, Tekonsha # 118449, or Hopkins # HM11141845.
The other way to tell is to check and see if there is already a converter on the wiring harness in the rear hatch area. If you check out the attached picture you can get an idea of where the converter will be installed. The picture shows the Curt T-Connector # C56217 so the OEM converter will look different but it's just an idea of what you will see. If you have a converter then you need just the 4-Way Connector from Curt # 56042 or Hopkins # HM11141825.
If you don't already have a trailer hitch then I recommend the etrailer # e98844 because it can be used with a weight distrubution system and has the highest capacities. I also like the EcoHitch Hidden Trailer Hitch Receiver # 306-X7250 because it has a hidden crosstube.
To complete a towing setup you also need a ball mount kit. I recommend checking out Ball Mount Kit # 989900 because it includes two ball mounts, one with a 3/4” rise/2” drop and the other with a 2-3/4” rise/4” drop, a 1-7/8” hitch ball, a 2” hitch ball, and a pin and clip. You will want to refer to the attached ball mount article to ensure that this kit is correct for your towing application.
