Reduced rear axle sag with Timbren suspension enhancement

Whether you're hauling heavy loads in your bed or cargo area or towing a trailer, you will often see the rear of your vehicle sag while the front end rises. In these cases, the rear axle is handling not only the weight of the cargo, but also more of the vehicle's weight. Because less weight is on the front axle, the front tires are making less contact with the road. Overall handling - traction, steering, and braking - is negatively affected. But the resistance from Timbren's Suspension Enhancement System works with your factory suspension to keep your vehicle level and improve your driving experience.

Diagram of the Timbren spring installed

The Timbren system comes with custom-fit brackets that are bolted onto each frame rail above your rear axle. Hollow rubber springs are bolted to the bottom of the bracket and hang down to where the bottom of the leaf spring sits, 1" above the axle. The inch of clearance allows the existing factory suspension to operate normally under light loads and standard terrain, ensuring the smooth, comfortable ride that you are used to.

Action of a standard Timbren rubber spring

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Systems are designed to work progressively. When the hollow rubber springs are compressed, the convoluted design causes them to quickly collapse along the folds. Once the folds are compacted, the stacked barrel shape increases resistance, stiffening the suspension and keeping your vehicle level.

Timbren suspension system works to prevent body roll

Each hollow rubber spring works independently to support the driver's-side or passenger's-side of your vehicle. This is helpful when you swerve or make sharp turns. Each spring is activated when it is needed, so body roll is greatly reduced. The independent action also works well when you are hauling off-center loads.

Trailer swaying as it is towed behind a truck

Because your vehicle handles better with the springs, less turbulence will be passed along to the trailer and this helps to keep the trailer in line. Your driving comfort is further enhanced if the trailer does begin to sway (from a gust of wind or a passing semi) because the movement from the trailer is not transferred to your vehicle. This also works to make the sway subside more quickly.

An empty truck on a bumpy road without Timbren SES

Another great feature of the rubber construction is that the springs absorb most of the road shock, creating a smoother, more stable ride overall. Wear and tear on the factory suspension is also lessened because the rubber springs work to prevent bottoming out on rough roads.

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Compared to the Competition

Timbren's Suspension Enhancement Systems are much easier to install than air springs - there are no air hoses to run, no compressors or gauges to hook up, and no manual adjustments to make. The rubber construction makes Timbren's springs more elastic than similar products constructed of microcellular urethane. And more elasticity allows for a more comfortable ride because the rubber has more travel.

These suspension enhancements are basically hard rubber springs that go between the pickup rear axle and frame. They were easy to install and when my 5th wheel is hooked up the truck remains level and solid. No bouncing up and down on the road, no headlights pointing up in the air. Does ride a little stiffer in back, especially with no trailer or bed weight, but not enough to outweigh the gain.

Easy to install. Keeps Ford F150 level as advertised when towing a trailer.

2006 Ford F-150

The order come on the day it was supposed to I put them on in less than an hour. Fit perfectly l pull a 28 foot fifth wheel camper with a 2006 F150 so I put the 1inch spacer in but may take it out will have to see when the camper gets hooked up. Just had 8 inches of snow on 4/4/18 in Wisconsin it may be a little while. Thanks etrailer.

2007 Ford F-150

Works awesome, put 2000lbs in a 1/2 ton truck and drove an hour at 65 mph no problems, only problem is the bolts to use it without the spacer are too short, had to get longer ones, but other than that i am very impressed

It did what it was supposed to do. When I wasn’t towing, it definitely made for a rougher ride, but it was nice when I was towing. Unfortunately I sold the truck with them installed so I will look to buy new ones for my 2015 F-150

2005 Ford F-150

Received these as promised very easy install hooked trailer up very happy with the ride height haven't pulled trailer down the road yet but will soon satisfied so far

Easy intallation, I also did the fronts at the same time. I have Timbrens on my one ton dually front and rear for over six years and they are much better than air bags although air bags do have their place in certain situtations, I've had air bags and they are a hassle to air up and down w/o an on board compreesor. I'll stick with the Timbrens install them and forget them.

I have traded this dually for a 2015 dually and put Timbrens on the 2015 rear axle and Timbrens on the front and rear axles of the wifes half ton pick up just to improve the ride, I like a firm suspension. The factory bump stops on the front 2015 axle were rivreted on so thats why Timbrens were not used on it.

The Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System TFR150D for my f150 2006
Was easy to install about 45 mins, The ride did not change with no load with load the truck ride great the timbren does what it advertise to do very happy

2006 Ford F-150

The product was very durable and good quality, I didn't need the spacers because without them I had 1" clearance until any weight was placed on the truck. I did have use the longer bolts however to get a strong torque when tightening the rubber spring. NOW THE TEST...I hooked up my 30' trailer using my equalizer 4 point hith, looking under the truck the rubber spring was pressing on the bumper stops just enough to seat firmly. After everything was hooked up, away we went! Test drive.... I must say, the truck and trailer handled great. The truck was not bouncing when driving, it had a solid feel to it. After finding a level street to park on, I got out and looked at the trailer and truck... Perfect! Nice and level.... I hope this helps another person decide the product works. Thanks etrailer.

The Timbren rear suspension enhancement system works fine. The RV trailer sits level and tows great.

Ford F-150

These things are great. I have been using these on my f150 with a camper on the back. The truck was a little unstable before these and with them it feels like the camper is almost not there.

Buy these if you have extra weight in your truck often

2004 Ford F-150

Got these for towing a travel trailer. Was told they would work against my WD hitch but I got them anyway. I have not tried them with the trailer yet but I did have way too much sand loaded in the back of my truck. They handled that great. I think they will work great for what I wanted for towing. My truck is 10 years old and the springs should benefit from these nicely.

Quality made parts, took 30 min to install using had tool and a floor jack.
Went out and "road tested" it. Like it so far.

2005 Ford F-150

Simple installation and the cost is gre at.

This system is simple to install, and it dramatically helps the load handling capability without changing the ride of an empty truck.

2007 Ford F-150

Great customer service with very fast shipping and notifications when ordered and shipped. Excellent product, we have installed these on all of our fleet trucks from 1/2 ton to 1 ton. They improve load capacity and trailer handling!

2007 Ford F-150

Very satisfied with this product. Eliminated rear sag and sway. However I was disappointed with the time it took to be delivered.

2018 GMC Sierra 3500

Paula was a great customer service representative. She helped beyond her job description and kept in touch throughout the order and delivery process.
Product arrived when it was suppose too and as described. 15 minutes and they were in. We will surely be ordering again from

2005 Ford F-150

Easy install. Product arrived before delivery date. Can already feel difference when just driving. Will hook up camper in a few week to see the real results.

These things work great!

2005 Ford F-150

Great product very easy to install. Levels truck back to factor height when loaded and makes for better cornering with out affecting ride good job.

GREAT no problems

Very solid. Quality parts.

I would just like to say this SES is just as advertised, everything installed great with no problem and they are extremely well made, I look forward to these lasting many years.

2007 Ford F-150

Received my product rapidly! Very easy to install. As usual the product and service is great.

  • Suspension Enhancement Recommendation for 2005 Ford F-150 for Use with Draw Tite Gooseneck
I have a suspension enhancement solution I can provide for your 2005 Ford F-150 that has a Draw Tite gooseneck hitch installed, but the air bag kits will not work as they will interfere with the bracket kits of the hitch. Instead you would want a Timbren kit part # TFR150D. This will replace your jounce bumper and provide you with additional suspension support when needed.

  • Solution for Trailer that Sags When Generator is In Truck Bed when Using Weight Distribution
The Timbren kit part # TFR150D is going to give you additional suspension support to help out with the weight of your generator, but the ideal solution will be to add more spring bar tension to your weight distribution system. If you can try angling the spring bars further down or use fewer links on chain hangers to see if that helps.

If your vehicle's suspension is already to the point where is sags consistently, I recommend having the vehicle's suspension inspected to ensure that it is still safe. We have suspension enhancement solutions for your 2006 Ford F-150 that are compatible with the fifth wheel rail kit but the air bag kits are not going to work. The best solution is going to be the Timbren kit part # TFR150D which will give you the suspension support you want and would not interfere with the fifth wheel rail kit. It's also nice because it doesn't require you to run any air lines or maintain air pressure.

Well, as they say at Timbren, you can never have enough S-E-S! For the rear of your 2005 Ford F-150 you would use one set of # TFR150D. I have linked a video showing installation of this kit for you. Set # TFR1504D will not fit the 2005 Ford F-150. • Suspension Enhancement for a 2005 Ford F-150 Super Cab Towing a 5th Wheel Trailer
I recommend going with a Timbren system like you have referenced. These types of systems work well for loads that do not change much, like a 5th wheel trailer, but each side can also work independently of the other for varying loads. For a 4-Wheel drive model you can use # TFR150D that you have referenced which is rated for 6,000 pounds. For 2-wheel drive models use # TFR1502D, also rated for 6,000 pounds. The capacity is based on vertical weight in the truck bed so the 6K capacity will...

  • Will Exceeding Truck's Towing or Payload Capacity Damage Suspension Components
Failed suspension components like what you described on the F-150 you perform work on can certainly be from exceeding its payload or tongue weight capacity from an overloaded bed and trailer. It's hard to say for certain that this is the culprit as I'm not sure exactly how heavy a trailer he tows with the truck but the fact that it keeps happening (and way sooner than it should) after repairs indicates that something is indeed being overloaded. • Will an Air Spring Kit Work With 2006 Lincoln Mark LT and Fifth Wheel Hitch?
Unfortunately there is not an air bag kit that will work on your 2006 Lincoln Mark LT with an in-bed hitch; there is a jounce-style suspension enhancement system that is a fit, the Timbren # TFR150D for a 4WD model or # TFR1502D for a 2WD model. These springs do not affect the empty ride of your truck so they will not work the same as an air bag kit, but they are going to be beneficial when you tow your trailer, working to reduce body roll and absorb shock over rough roads.
