Troubleshooting Installation of Timbren Spacers Causing Additional Trailer Sway
Updated 05/17/2022 | Published 05/13/2022 >
Question:
So I have a 32’ camper with WD bars. I already had timbrens installed just the single timbren large rubber part only on each side but truck has a 2” suspension lift so I decided to order some spacers and just installed 1/2” and 1/4” spacer on each side to level out the truck which it did with trailer hooked and now have horrible sway to where I can’t go over 55mph. So my question is do I adjust the chain links on the WD or should I remove the spacers I installed and have the sag but had no sway issue ? Please help. Iam assuming that I dont have enough tongue weight? Iam constantly correct in steering walking all over the road. Thanks Truck : GMC 1500 Sierra

Since it sounds like you have not adjusted your weight distribution hitch yet I would definitely start there. Any time you add something like the # TFRTT1502D, or alter it with spacers, you want to adjust your WDH accordingly. After making the adjustments I would see how it does. Your tongue weight shouldn't be altered by the addition of the spacers but it probably made a difference if you're riding higher.
Realistically, a properly rated and adjust WDH should remove any sag from your vehicle and keep things level. If you are unable to manage to adjust it with the spacers in place and eliminate the sway I would pull them back out since it sounds like it is causing a much bigger problem.
