Firestone Ride-Rite Air Spring Basics

Firestone Ride-Rite springs are designed to increase safety and reduce the strain on your vehicle when you are hauling heavy loads or towing a heavy trailer. The springs partner with your existing rear suspension system to help keep your vehicle level, maintain even load distribution and increase stability. Hauling heavy loads or towing a heavy trailer can make the rear of your vehicle sag and the front end rise. This puts more strain on your rear axle and reduces contact between your front tires and the road, causing problems with braking, steering control and traction. By adding air springs to your rear suspension, you can help to level your vehicle and improve braking and handling. The air springs also help to level your headlight beams and reduce wear on your tires.

Adjustable Air Pressure

The air pressure in your Ride-Rite springs can be adjusted manually, side to side, to compensate for off-center loads. A centered load improves the stability of your vehicle by reducing body roll. The air springs will also help to absorb road shock and to soften contact between your axle and frame. This prevents bottoming out, thus improving ride comfort. Route the air line tubing for the springs to your vehicle's bumper to provide easy access to the manual inflation valves.

Firestone Ride-Rite air spring components

Air Spring Construction

Firestone's double-convoluted Ride-Rite air springs are designed to give you maximum load support and enhance the performance and ride comfort of your vehicle. The rubber springs provide cushioning between your suspension components and operate at up to 100 psi. The springs have four layers of reinforced rubber to ensure durability and enhance load support. A braided wire girdle creates the double-convoluted shape of each air spring, increasing the burst pressure of the spring. The rubber springs are attached to corrosion-resistant metal end plates with a time-proven, rolled crimp seal that keeps the bags securely anchored.

Air Spring Installation

Each Ride-Rite kit includes custom-fit brackets that connect to your axle and frame. The brackets provide the mounting points for the air springs. Drilling may be required for some applications.

Video Transcript for Firestone Vehicle Suspension - Rear Axle Suspension Enhancement - F2525 Review

Today we're going to take a look at the Firestone double convoluted Ride Rite air helper springs for the rear axle. Now, this is a custom fit part. It is designed to fit the 2009-2014 Ford F150 trucks. And on a custom fit part, I always like to recommend for you to go to our website, use our fit guide, put in your year and model vehicle, and it'll show you if this part will work for your application. Now, this kit will maximize safe load carrying capacity. Helps increase stability, and improve ride quality. They basically will install between your vehicle's frame and it's rear suspension.

These will help keep your vehicle level when you're hauling a heavy load. Helps improve steering control, and braking when you're hauling or towing. Helps level your headlights, and even reduces tire wear. They will help maintain even load distribution, with air pressure, leveling off-center loads. The airbags do adjust manually side-to-side with individual inflation valves. They will also help reduce strain on your rear suspension.

Helps prevent permanent sagging, and excessive friction in leaf springs. They increase the stability, helps absorb road shock, for a nice smooth ride. And it will soften the contact between your axle and frame to prevent bottoming out. They will provide maximum load support, and durability. They're made of a rubber construction, it's a double convoluted design. It includes everything shown here on the table.

It's all the materials that are necessary for installation. The air springs, themselves, all the mounting brackets, all the mounting hardware, the air line, it even has the separate valves for the manual inflation. Comes with a nice set of detailed instructions. Now, there are switches and gauges, and compressors, and air tanks that are also available for a quick, easy, air spring inflation and deflation from inside your vehicle. And we do sell those items separately on our website. This part is made in the USA.

Specs on this, the adjustable air pressure is from 5 psi to 100 psi. And the load leveling capacity is 4,800 pounds. Now, you do want to remember that the Ride Rite springs will not increase your vehicle's weight carrying capacity, so you do not want to exceed the manufacturer's recommended weight limit. But that should do it for the review on the Firestone double convoluted Ride Rite air helper springs for the rear axle.

Just about everything about buying, installing and using the air suspension is 5 Star. As a novice at these things, I did have sort of an issue. I could not seem to get uniform pressure in the bags. I would think I was at say 25 and the next thing I knew it would be 15. I emailed etrailer.com and they immediately provided me a phone number for the manufacturer. One call later, I pulled out the valve stems and let some minuscule debris come out (likely from the tube cutting) and they have worked perfect every since. For the cost and effort involved, I will never be without an air suspension again. 348978

A year,? It was somewhat over that. Anyhow the F-150 was replaced with a F-250 and new Firestone air springs were ordered in time for the newer bigger Toy Hauler. Maiden voyage to Ben Avery Phoenix and the Clark County shooting complex Las Vegas went awesome. Always do air springs and always use etrailer.

Im still happy with the air bags. I do a lot of towing. From a camper to horse trailers. After hooking up either trailer I just add in the right of air and its a noticeable difference. I did add a T-fitting to add air at the same time to the bags. I own and drive tractor trailers and knew air bags are the way to go with my little 150. The Firestone product has held up and did recommend them who asked about them when they saw them. Also told them where I got them.

My first time ever-mounting the F252 in any vehicle I own. I was dubious as to whether I could install the item myself. And truthfully, installing the first (left) side took about an hour and a half. I have to say without the instructions being as clear and precise as they are, I would have given up and sent them back. The (right) side was, I will say a "Snap". Thirty minutes more and the set was in and ready to pressure test. In conclusion, following the instructions and the will to get the job done has given me a feeling of being safer when hauling heavier loads with my F-150. The stability the F252 adds to hauling cargo and distribution of load from back suspension to front suspension makes hauling a much safer and sounder way to drive as well as carryl loads on my trailer. 726618

The air bags are great quality products, but some of the hardware is very poor quality. While I was installing the ublots over the leaf springs to the bottom of the bracket the stamped or pressed to deform lock nuts seized up and I snapped off half the threaded portion of the ubolt which itself should've been of grade 8. Love the kit just very disappointed with the hardware 666900

It was easier to install the ride rite air helper springs than to remove the wheels from my ford f 150. Note. The nuts are a type that need no lock washers. so they go on with a degree of effort. You will need an air ratchet with at least 80 fp lbs torque. Or a very large forearm. Follow the online instructions and with average mechanical skill and basic tools installation is not too difficult. Faster an easier with air tools. Shipping from E Trailer.com was better than expected. One day ahead of scheduled delivery. Ran a road test with my 29 foot trailer and felt noticeably more solid. Excellent product and supplier. PS. Get a 9/16 deeeep well socket. 578527

Quality product. Installed in a few hours and online video was very helpful. The kit was missing 2 bolts, but a trip to the auto parts store took care of that. I could have called for replacements but wanted them now. With recommended 5 psi and no load, the ride is only slightly stiffer. Can’t wait to pull my RV an feel the difference. 555445

Works great, install was relatively easy, videos from etrailer.com were a huge help. Someone asked the question if the Ford rear wheel well liners (aftermarket accessory) were compatible with this product. I can confirm that yes they are compatible, but you will need to cut about a 2" x 7" strip out of the liner around the upper frame bracket. It will be very obvious what you need to cut, and it is very simple to do (a sturdy pair of scissors or a pair of tin shears will work to make the cut). Once the frame bracket is installed and the wheel liner pushed into place above it, you won't even be able to tell it has been cut. 371185

Product was as described, It arrived on time and etrailer.com did there job well with helpful videos and advise. I would advise having a good lift to install these air springs I didn't and it was a challenge and took much longer than expected. I installed the air springs on a 2013 F150 4x4 super cab and jacked the truck up and did it from a creeper on the floor. It just took longer than I had hoped but the installation and instructions were fine and the product seems of good quality. 238420

  • Troubleshooting Left/Right Height Difference with Firestone Height-Control Valve kit F2186-2047
The Firestone Automatic Single-Gauge Pneumatic Height-Control Valve kit # F2186-2047 that you had installed along with the air bag kit # F2525 controls air bag pressure for both springs equally so the issue with your uneven height from side to side is likely to be with a leak from the extra T that is on the right side air line. I am not sure why this was installed but odds are that there is a leak there that is preventing full and equal pressure from reaching the right air bag. This would...

If you are adding the weight after you have set up your hitch you can adjust the hitch to give you slightly more weight distribution. • What Size Bolt is Used to Hold On the Factory Bump Stops on a 2011 Ford F-150
The bolt holding on the factory jounce bumper on the 2011 Ford F-150 is a 13mm. You will most likely need an extension to get to the bolt without interference from the jounce bumper.

  • Can Firestone part # F2525 Work with Pro Comp Stage 2 Block Lift on a 2010 F150 4X4
Yes, the Firestone part # F2525 will fit your 2010 Ford F-150 FX4 that is already outfitted with the 6 inch Pro Comp Stage 2 block lift installed. Often times lift spacers are required for truck that have lift kits, but, in your case, the block lift does not lift the frame further away from the suspension. I spoke with the engineer at Firestone who verified that you can use Firestone part # F2525 on your 2010 Ford F150 4X4 with your 6 inch Pro Comp Stage 2 block lift as long as your...

  • Rear Suspension Enhancement Recommendation for 2012 Ford F150 with a Camper That Also Tows Trailer
For your setup you would be best served getting an air bag kit again. It's the best suspension enhancement I can recommend for you since you plan on towing a trailer as well. This way you can air up the bags when you have the camper without the trailer, and then when towing the trailer deflate them and use the weight distribution system. The use of rear suspension enhancement like the Timbren along with a weight distribution kit is not recommended. They will tend to work against one...

  • Bump Stop Bolt Just Spins Upon Removal on a 2006 Ford F-150
It sounds like the weld nut that holds the rear bump stop on your 2006 Ford F-150 has broken. Basically, there is a nut that is welded to the inside of the frame rail and is used to secure the bump stock via the center bolt. The tack welds that hold the nut to the frame rail have more than likely sheared off which is why the bolt just spins. The only option you have now is to first cut the old bolt off then find an access hole in the frame rail to fish the broken bolt and nut out. You...

  • Recommended Wireless Air command System For Firestone Air Suspension On 2014 Ford F-150
We have a few wireless compressor systems that will work with the # F2525 Air Ride system you have on your 2014 F-150. You can choose a system that will best suit your needs. Since Firestone does not make a single path wireless system you will want to go with a dual path system like part # F2589. This features a remote that has 3 preset settings and you can adjust the air bags separately or at the same time. For a bigger system I recommend part # F2543. This has a larger compressor....

  • Socket Size Required to Remove the Jounce Bumper on a 2009-2015 Ford F-150
We used a 14mm socket to remove the jounce bumper on a 2014 and 2015 Ford F-150. The jounce bumper is about 4 inches long, so you will want to use an extension. I would use a 4 inch extension if you are using a standard socket and a 2 inch extension if you are using a deep well socket. I have attached an installation video for you to check out for the Firestone Ride-Rite Kit, # F2525, on a Ford F-150.
