An example of sag on a vehicle's rear axle under a heavy load

Whether you're hauling heavy loads in your bed or cargo area or you're towing a trailer, you will often see the rear of your vehicle sag while the front end rises. In these cases, the rear axle is handling not only the weight of the cargo, but also more of the vehicle's weight. Because less weight is on the front axle, the front tires are making less contact with the road. Overall handling - traction, steering, and braking - is negatively affected. But the resistance from Timbren's Suspension Enhancement System works with your factory suspension to keep your vehicle level and improve your driving experience.

Diagram of the Timbren spring installed

The Timbren system comes with custom-fit brackets that are bolted onto each frame rail above the rear axle. Hollow rubber springs are bolted to the bottom of the bracket and hang down to where the bottom of the spring sits, 1" above the axle. The inch of clearance allows the existing factory suspension to operate normally under light loads and standard terrain, ensuring the smooth, comfortable ride that you are used to.

Animation of a standard Timbren rubber spring

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Systems are designed to work progressively. When the hollow rubber springs are compressed, the convoluted design causes them to quickly collapse along the folds. Once the folds are compacted, the stacked barrel shape increases resistance, stiffening the suspension and keeping your vehicle level.

Timbren suspension system works to prevent body roll

Each hollow rubber spring works independently to support the driver's side or passenger's side of your vehicle. This is helpful when you swerve or make sharp turns. Each spring is activated when it is needed, so body roll is greatly reduced. The independent action also works well when you are hauling off-center loads.

An example of a trailers swaying

Because the vehicle handles better with the springs, less turbulence will be passed along to the trailer, and this helps to keep the trailer in line. Your driving comfort is further enhanced if the trailer does begin to sway (from a gust of wind or a passing semi), because the movement from the trailer is not transferred to your vehicle. This also works to make the sway subside more quickly.

An empty truck on a bumpy road without Timbren

Another great feature of the rubber construction is that the springs absorb most of the road shock, creating a smoother, more stable ride overall. Wear and tear on the factory suspension is also lessened because the rubber springs work to prevent bottoming out on rough roads.

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Compared to the Competition

Timbren's Suspension Enhancement Systems are much easier to install than air springs - there are no air hoses to run, no compressors or gauges to hook up, and no manual adjustments to make. The rubber construction makes Timbren's springs more elastic than similar products constructed of microcellular urethane. And more elasticity allows for a more comfortable ride because the rubber has more travel.

Video Transcript for Timbren Front and Rear Suspension Enhancement Systems Review

Speaker 1: Today we're going to be taking a look at the Timbren line of suspension enhancement systems. Any time that we add weight to our vehicle, it's going to put a lot of strain and stress on the suspension, especially if we're towing a heavy camper, trailer, or we have a heavy load in the back.Tends to have the back end squat down, which again, it's going to put that strain and stress on the rear suspension because not only are we asking it to hold up the weight of the vehicle, but everything else that we add on to it. Which that can arise a lot of different issues. The front end is going to be getting pulled off, which will misalign our headlights, and our tires won't have as much contact, so our steering and braking is going to be diminished. But tat;s where timbrens are going to come into play. They're going to provide us that extra support so that when we do have those heavy loads, the back end doesn't sag down quite as much, and it's not putting so much stress on the back end. By doing that, the front end's not going to rise up, which means our headlights will be in line and our tires will have the correct amount of contact and pressure, so our braking and steering isn't affected.

And they're going to do that all while making our ride more comfortable with that extra load. Our timbrens are going to provide us the support we need by replacing our factory jump stops and mounting in between the frame and the axle. Now, yours may look different, so you want to double check inaudible 00:01:20 fit guide for your specific application. Now, each one of our timbrens is going to feature a steel bracket. They're all going to have black, powder coat finish on them to resist that rust and corrosion or any other kind of chemicals that may be on the road. They're going to have a hollow, rubber ayon 00:01:36 spring that's going to take a lot of that pressure and strain off of the rear suspension.Whenever we do load our vehicle down, the space between our frame and our axle is going to get smaller. That's where our spring is going to make contact with the axle, and it's going to start compressing.

Now, they are progressively rated, so if we have a small load or a light load, it's going to have a little soft engagement. But the further it gets compressed, the harder and stiffer it becomes, giving us the support we need with those heavy loads. And since they are rubber, they're going to have a lot of give to them, which means they're going to give us the support we need. But at the same time, they're going to give us some more cushion and absorb some of the road shock as we drive. And since the rear ones here aren't in constant contact with our aXle, it is going to provide us the same ride quality when it's unloaded. Our timbrens are going to work independently from each other from side to side. That way, if we have an off center load, it will help compensate for that, but at the same time, if we take an evasive maneuver or a really sharp turn, this is going to help reduce that body roll and some of that sway feeling that we get going on when we have a lot of added weight. Our timbrens for the rear are going to be a good enhancement for any time you're going to be adding weight to the back of your vehicle, whether it be a heavy trailer, a large load in the back or any other situation where you're adding a lot of weight to the back of your vehicle. Now, timbrens on the front are going to be a little bit different.

They're going to provide us that load-leveling support and make sure the front end doesn't get pushed down too far. However, these typically are going to be in contact all the time, which means it's going to give us that support and help reduce on that body roll all the time, all while absorbing that road shock, giving us a smoother ride. Now, some situations where you'd want that extra support on the front of the vehicle to keep it from getting pushed down too much would be if you have a snow plow or winch, if you flat-tow your vehicle, or if you have any other heavy accessory on the front. This is going to make sure that front end stays where it should be, and again, making sure our tires, braking and steering acts how they should. When comparing the timbrens to other suspension enhancement options like airbags, these are going to be a lot easier to install because we're not going to have to worry about running lines, maintaining air pressure, putting in switches or compressors or any of that. Once these are installed, these are going to be completely maintenance free. However, airbags are going to provide us with a lot more adjustability, whereas our timbrens are not going to have that. That'll finish up your look at the timbrens suspension enhancement systems..

This product seems as described in etrailer catalog and by salesperson. Very easy to install, both sides and clean up 30 minutes (actual install time was about 15-20 minutes). My truck has 100 gal fuel cell and tool box that is pretty full, so I generally have an extra 1200 lbs in bed of truck full time. Looking at truck it sits level instead of rear sitting up a little, not a big deal except headlights aim a little higher and when pulling trailer with skid steer or mini, truck sags an amount that looks overloaded. After installed truck bed height looks close to an unloaded truck. With full fuel cell the truck rests on the Timbren Suspension Enhancement System, I was pleasantly pleased with the ride and look of the truck. The only minor difference is when truck comes to complete stop, there is a slight "jiggle" in truck. Very minor but it is noticeable. I would definitely recommend and purchase again. I can't wait to see how system performs with loaded trailer hooked up. 594996

Easy install on my 2019 F-250. Had to jack up the back of truck on the hitch to slide the Timbren over the studs. Plenty of room over top of tire to tighten the nuts. I have not hauled with it yet but this should definitely help the suspension. Quality product !! 634614

Good product. I've put Timbren's on 2 previous trucks and never had a problem. Clearance on my F250 Super Duty was not sufficient to jst slip these on. The frame had to be jack a little to install. Otherwise, an easy install. 609935

Bought these to help level our 2017 F250 when hauling the 5th wheel. I haven't towed with them yet but there was a trick to the install. I had to jack the truck bed up about 2 inches (using the hitch as a push point) to get the part to fit in between the top and bottom of the axle. Once I did this, the job was done in 10 minutes. 597844

Solid Product! Yeah it's a stiffer ride when loaded But that's the sacrifice made to have more control of the haul while underway. Definitely recommend to anyone wanting to stay more level with a heavy boat/trailer setup as in my case. Not that install is hard but removal of spare tire before install, may have helped with space if you don't have a lift. 511931

Product was easy to install, 1/2 hr taking my time. Used a open end wrench and floor jack. My 2018 F350 Super Duty Super Cab 4wd no longer plunges over bumps, it has lost all its rear end sway on turning, carries my load much smoother ( loaded all the time ). Even with the load I always carry, the vehicle sits 1” higher in the rear. Prior to the install I was constantly hitting the rubber stops on my factory overload springs. 520123

I ordered timbrens for the front and rear of my chevy 2500. I have a 2000 lb truck camper and I wanted something to help carry the load a little better. I had no idea that my front bump stops had worn away to almost nothing until I installed these. They have worn well and performed well so far. 628835

I installed these on my 2015 Navion motorhome. It was very easy and only took about an hour. They did more than I expected. The ride is much better and a small shimmy that could be felt in the steering wheel at about 65 is gone. I would recommend these for all MB motorhomes. 460088

I had bought these timbrens and the weight safe hitch with the 8” drop from etrailer. I was quite please by both products. Installation of the timbrens was very easy, only took 30-40 minutes to change out bump stops in my garage.I hauled a Uhaul trailer with a Jeep over 300 miles, with no issues. The timbrens worked great, no issues with the rife. And I really like the weight safe hitch. I recommend checking out these two products from etrailer. Thanks etrailer. 642864

Review from a similar Timbren Aeon Spring System in Vehicle Suspension

Installed on my 2007 Ram 3500 because I wanted basic leveling & stability under the load of my 5th wheel. I didn't want a complicated air bag system. Summer trips in the mountains of MT & the Pacific NW. 3 months of snowbirding throughout southern AZ this winter. Very satisfied, so I just swapped them onto my new 2018 Ram 3500. I didn't let them go with my trade-in. Just what I need, no effect when empty - engaged when I need them. 628560

Review from a similar Timbren Aeon Spring System in Vehicle Suspension

I've had the Timbrens installed for about a year now and can report that they have done exactly what I wanted from them. The install was pretty easy (did it in the driveway using my creeper). My F350 was squatting a bit from the 3000# pin weight and I wanted to reduce that. Unloaded I can't tell they are there unless I hit a pretty big bump and when we're hitched they eliminate most of the squat and the truck is now pretty level when towing. I was thinking about installing air bags but went this route since it was simple and cost less. It's a great product! I've read some complaints about a rough ride when unloaded and I think that's due to not getting the unloaded gap right during installation. Submitting an "Installed" pic. 639141

These do really well for supporting a full load or trailer attached. But if unloaded the will create whiplash if you go over a speed bump or anything that creates the axle to spring up and hit them. 611025

Review from a similar Timbren Aeon Spring System in Vehicle Suspension

Just finished installing Timbren's in the rear of my Ford E-450 motorhome. The installation was very easy. The hardest part was lifting up the motorhome so the rear tires were off the ground. I always install Timbren's on all my pickup trucks, and have always been extremely happy with them, so when I bought a motorhome, that was one of the first things I did. Because my motorhome came from the manufacturer with helper springs which increased the height or clearance, the Timbren's were not in constant contact, so I purchased and install a 1" spacer (part number A25723-90AH00). Now the Timbren's are in constant contact and will maintain the correct height and not sag under load. I love Timbrens! 643600

The product first arrived in a damaged box with one of the washers missing, but ETrailer did resupply that. The hardest part was finding a shop able (needs the right tools to depress coil springs) and willing (a potential liability issue messing with suspension) to replace it for a reasonable cost. Eventually a local tire shop agreed to. This was for a 2014 Honda Odyssey, especially for pulling a pop-up. Took two camping trips last summer, one before and one after installation, and I have been pleased with the added stiffness in the rear suspension. It made about 1 to 1.5 inch of difference in resting position when fully loaded and towing and has helped smooth out bumps and humps in the road - both when towing and not. 589641

The Timbren suspension was delivered on time . The unit was installed using the instructions provided and took about 45 minutes for both sides of the rear axle. I have not put a load on the truck yet to see how it works. There is about 1" of clearance between the rubber timbren stops and the frame of the truck,so it hasn't affected the way the truck handles for now,I'll be able to tell more about it once I hitch my Travel Trailer up.The installation was done on a 2017 Nissan Frontier. 621664

The installation took about a half hour on our 2006 Winnebago View. I did not need to remove the tires, just jacked it up enough to unload the suspension a bit. The upgrades have quieted down the front suspension both reducing hard suspension hits and body lean. The front of the View is definitely more settled. Pros: Simplicity, and ease of install. measurable difference in RV suspension performance. Cons: expensive for what they are. The long bolts used do not inspire confidence. 220089

This product has performed exactly as advertised. We pull a fifth wheel rv with a hitch weight of 2300 pounds. After adding the Timbren Rear Suspension System to our Ford F-250, our truck sits perfectly level when hooked up. We feel that it was a much more cost effective way to keep our truck level as opposed to installing an air bag system. 344559

I still like the suspension product that I purchased from Timbren. It helps keep my vehicle level when we tow our 12,500 lbs fifth wheel RV with a hitch weight of about 2400 lbs, although when I purchased the product we were towing a lighter model. I have been thinking about ordering the heavier duty model you offer to help off set the increase in weight of our new trailer.

Etrailer shipped very fast! Awesome people to deal with. The install went just as fast! Probably 20 minutes. I used a farm jack on the trailer hitch to bring both rear wheels up enough to have room to work. I put jack stands under the hitch for safety. Didn’t need to remove the wheels and they weren’t off the ground. Removed the old stop and attached the new ones. Simple! Test drove (in the rain) with nothing in the bed and never felt it till I hit a speed bump. Felt a little bump. I’ll be taking my RV out in a week. Looking forward to seeing what it will do for that. I bought Timbrens to install on my 2015 Silverado 2500HD truck, which I use to haul our 5th wheel. I had a set of airbags on my old GMC and they worked well, however, they were a concern when it came to maintenance. I saw a review and recommendation for Timbrens and thought they were a great alternative to having airbags installed. I read the instructions and can see no problems with installing them myself - thereby not only saving in the cost over the airbags, but also not having to pay anyone to install the Timbrens. Everything I have read about them makes me feel very good. I don't see the truck lowering with the 5th wheel attached, but having the Timbrens installed will take away any worries with rough roads. 613453

  • Which Timbren Suspension Kit for 2017 Ford F-250
  • There are 2 Timbren helper spring kits for the 2017 Ford F-250. First we have # TFR250SDJ which has an 8,600 pound capacity and fits 2- and 4-wheel drive models. And second we have # TFRTT350J which is rated for 8,000 pounds and also fits 2- and 4-wheel drive models. The higher weight capacity and the fact it's not as popular as the lower rated kit is why there is a price difference. I prefer to recommend the lower capacity kit as it will give you a smoother unloaded ride quality.

  • There are actually just 2 Timbren helper spring kits for the 2017 Ford F-250. First we have # TFR250SDJ which has an 8,600 pound capacity and fits 2- and 4-wheel drive models. So each of those part numbers appears twice because of the 2-wheel drive and 4-wheel drive categories. The springs in kit # TFR250SDJ are 4-1/2 inches tall and for kit # TFRTT350J they are 3-9/16 inches tall....

  • Gooseneck Towing Capacity for a 2018 Ford F-250 Regular Cab Long Bed
  • The towing capacity of your 2018 Ford F-250 will vary based on factors such as engine size, axle ratio, and GCWR. These figures will range from 12,800 lbs on the low end to 18,500 lbs on the high end. If you can provide me with the engine size, axle ratio, and GCWR of your F-250 then I would be happy to provide you with your maximum towing capacity. The weight of your gooseneck trailer and all of its contents cannot exceed the maximum towing capacity of the vehicle. Please keep in mind...

  • How To Improve The Suspension On Your 2017 Ford F-250
  • In order to gain the most stability and support for your 2017 Ford F250, you will want to install both support and sway control components. The most economical way to add support to your truck is by using the Timbren Suspension Enhancement System part # TFR250SDJ. The Timbren springs are a good way to add additional support to your vehicle while towing or hauling a heavy load however, the best way to add support to your truck would involve installing air bags such as the Firestone Ride-Rite...

  • Comparing the Timbren SES Part TFR350SDJ and Part TFR250SDJ for a Ford F-250/F-250
  • The Timbren Suspension Enhancement System part # TFR350SDJ is correct for your 2017 Ford F-350 whereas the Timbren Suspension Enhancement System part # TFR250SDJ is for a 2017-2019 Ford F-250. The brackets on both of these systems are the same so you can use one on the other but the F-250 kit has a 4-1/2" tall spring whereas the F-350 kit has a 5-3/16" tall spring. Therefore, the F-250 kit will not engage as soon as the F-350 kit when used on a F-350. The later engagement will equate to...
