An example of sag on a vehicle's rear axle under a heavy load

Whether you're hauling heavy loads in your bed or cargo area or you're towing a trailer, you will often see the rear of your vehicle sag while the front end rises. In these cases, the rear axle is handling not only the weight of the cargo, but also more of the vehicle's weight. Because less weight is on the front axle, the front tires are making less contact with the road. Overall handling - traction, steering, and braking - is negatively affected. But the resistance from Timbren's Suspension Enhancement System works with your factory suspension to keep your vehicle level and improve your driving experience.

Diagram of the Timbren spring installed

The Timbren system comes with custom-fit brackets that are bolted onto each frame rail above the rear axle. Hollow rubber springs are bolted to the bottom of the bracket and hang down to where the bottom of the spring sits, 1" above the axle. The inch of clearance allows the existing factory suspension to operate normally under light loads and standard terrain, ensuring the smooth, comfortable ride that you are used to.

Animation of a standard Timbren rubber spring

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Systems are designed to work progressively. When the hollow rubber springs are compressed, the convoluted design causes them to quickly collapse along the folds. Once the folds are compacted, the stacked barrel shape increases resistance, stiffening the suspension and keeping your vehicle level.

Timbren suspension system works to prevent body roll

Each hollow rubber spring works independently to support the driver's side or passenger's side of your vehicle. This is helpful when you swerve or make sharp turns. Each spring is activated when it is needed, so body roll is greatly reduced. The independent action also works well when you are hauling off-center loads.

An example of a trailers swaying

Because the vehicle handles better with the springs, less turbulence will be passed along to the trailer, and this helps to keep the trailer in line. Your driving comfort is further enhanced if the trailer does begin to sway (from a gust of wind or a passing semi), because the movement from the trailer is not transferred to your vehicle. This also works to make the sway subside more quickly.

An empty truck on a bumpy road without Timbren

Another great feature of the rubber construction is that the springs absorb most of the road shock, creating a smoother, more stable ride overall. Wear and tear on the factory suspension is also lessened because the rubber springs work to prevent bottoming out on rough roads.

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Compared to the Competition

Timbren's Suspension Enhancement Systems are much easier to install than air springs - there are no air hoses to run, no compressors or gauges to hook up, and no manual adjustments to make. The rubber construction makes Timbren's springs more elastic than similar products constructed of microcellular urethane. And more elasticity allows for a more comfortable ride because the rubber has more travel.

Added 1 inch spacer and it leaves 1/2 inch clearance. Perfect for my 2021 Ford F250 Tremor package (2 inch factory lift) with Lance 650 slide in truck camper to control roll on trips.

2019 Ford F-250 Super Duty

Very easy to install on my 2019 F250 SD. I did have to jack up the frame an inch to get the bumpers mounted, just a bit to get the mounting plates in the stock pegs. I have yet to try it with my 5th wheel trailer on them, but think they will help a lot with the ride. We shall see in a couple of weeks.

Comments
Working out great for the past year. Makes the ride a little stiff while hooked up to my 5th wheel, but that is expected adding 1900 lbs. Still would recommend installing them!

This is my second set of Timbrens. They worked great on my 2015 F-250, and I expect they will do the same on my 2022 F-250. E-Trailer service is also top notch. I will be a lifetime customer.

They keep the front end from sagging when I have my plow on , when my pow is off, the ride is firmer than it came from the factory. It keeps the rear from sagging under load , I have a Ford 250 super duty xl with super cab , long bed , 4x4, 6.2 gasoline engine , it didn’t have a snow plow package , it was more cost effective using timbren front and rear suspension enhanced bump stops, to upgrade the suspension using this product .

The Timbren suspension enhancement (rubber springs) work great. The tongue weight of my 5th wheel plus everything we carry in the truck is close to the GVWR and would normally make the truck’s rear sag a lot. The Timbren springs prevent the sag and give a pretty good ride when towing the trailer. With the 1” gap between the springs and the perch you don’t even notice them when the truck is unloaded. I’ve only had them on the truck for one year so I can’t comment on their durability but so far so good!

I have had these on every one of my vehicles like Chevy I pulled a 14000 pound camper takes out all the SAG takes out the body roll highly recommended keep your suspension leaf springs in great shape. I have had these in the front end of my trucks with the flowers on them Chevy mainly because of the independent suspension keep the truck flat when cornering it keeps a friend from diving best part is lifetime warranty I had one of these fall off the boat ride it out and etrailer replaced it for me free of charge highly recommend buying these products airbags do not even compare to these you're always messing with leaking lines Etc

- TFR250SDJ

The easiest install. 1/2 hour taking my time. Real test happens in a couple weeks, but I have no doubt of their performance.

- TFR250SDJ
by:

I purchased the Timbrens in hope to correct the sag. Easy install pretty much straight forward. First outing with the Timbrens installed pulling a 32 foot camper for 2,000 miles: my F250 didn't sag as much as before, big plus. The downside, loaded ride quality, absolutely terrible! I was expecting to feel a few more bumps in the road, but I felt each and every little crack or pebble my tires rolled over, make it difficult to drink my coffee while driving. The Timbrens website does mention the suspension will be firmer. If you have long loaded towing, I would not recommend the Timbrens, just too much feedback from the suspension and road. If you only occasionally loaded your vehicle for short trips, these would work ok. I did remove Timbrens from my truck and will be purchasing and air bag system for ride quality and adjustability.

by:

Easy to install

- TFR250SDJ
by:

I bought these in a pinch. They worked great while towing but it came at a total sacrifice to the unloaded ride. My superduty has the driver side sag in the rear leaf springs and the timbren was in 100% contact while the passenger side was about 3/4 inch off the tang. I switched to airlift air bags to get the unloaded ride back.

This product seems as described in etrailer catalog and by salesperson. Very easy to install, both sides and clean up 30 minutes (actual install time was about 15-20 minutes). My truck has 100 gal fuel cell and tool box that is pretty full, so I generally have an extra 1200 lbs in bed of truck full time. Looking at truck it sits level instead of rear sitting up a little, not a big deal except headlights aim a little higher and when pulling trailer with skid steer or mini, truck sags an amount that looks overloaded. After installed truck bed height looks close to an unloaded truck. With full fuel cell the truck rests on the Timbren Suspension Enhancement System, I was pleasantly pleased with the ride and look of the truck. The only minor difference is when truck comes to complete stop, there is a slight "jiggle" in truck. Very minor but it is noticeable. I would definitely recommend and purchase again. I can't wait to see how system performs with loaded trailer hooked up.

After owing this for a year I’ve had zero issues . I pull a 32ft travel trailer that is a little over 10k lbs. With these I dont Have to waste time airing up the bags I just Hook up and go. Very easy install as well.

Ford F-250 Super Duty

This is a good product I had these on my F 150. I decided to install on my F250 Super duty for towing my fifth wheel trailer. Installation went fine but I have some advice resist the urge to use impact wrench. Hand tools only. I used impact wrench on second side and lost one of the nuts the flew off somewhere and spun the nut keeper on one of the studs so I had to use two wrenches to remove one nut. These keep the truck level when loaded and I prefer these over air bags. I have had both.

These things work great. You never have to worry about air leaks or the air pressure like you do when you have bags.

  • Questions About Timbren Jounce-Style Springs for 2017 Ford F-250 Super Duty
It is true that the 8,600 lbs capacity Timbren Jounce-Style Springs # TFR250SDJ measures 6-7/8" altogether while the 8,000 lbs capacity Timbren # TFRTT350J for heavy duty (Severe Service Vehicle) applications measure 7" altogether. What you can do is try it without the spacer and see if you like the balance between ride support and ride quality and then evaluate if you want to add a spacer or not.
