An example of sag on a truck's rear axle under a heavy load. The Timbren Suspension Enhancement System levels the vehicle.

When hauling heavy loads in the cargo area or by pulling a trailer, you will often see the rear of the vehicle sag while the front end rises. In these cases, the rear axle is handling not only the weight of the cargo, but more of the vehicle's weight as well. Because less weight is on the front axle, the front tires are making less contact with the road. Overall vehicle handling - traction, steering, and braking - is negatively affected. The resistance from Timbren's Suspension Enhancement System works with the vehicle's factory suspension to keep the vehicle level and improve your driving performance.

Diagram of the Timbren spring installed

The Timbren system has a vehicle-specific bracket that will be bolted onto each frame rail above the rear axle. Hollow rubber springs are bolted to the bottom of the bracket and hang down to where the bottom of the spring sits one inch above the axle. The inch of clearance allows the existing factory suspension to operate normally under light loads and standard terrain, ensuring the smooth, comfortable ride you are used to.

Animation of a standard Timbren rubber spring

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Systems are designed to work progressively. When the hollow rubber springs are compressed, the convoluted design causes them to quickly collapse along the folds. Once the folds are compacted, the stacked barrel shape provides increased resistance, stiffening the suspension and keeping the vehicle level.

Timbren suspension system works to prevent body roll

Each hollow rubber spring works independently to support the driver's or passenger's side of the vehicle. This is helpful when you swerve or make sharp turns. Each spring is activated when it is needed, so body roll is greatly reduced. The independent action also works well when hauling off-center loads.

An example of a trailers swaying

Because the vehicle handles better with the springs, less turbulence will be passed along to the trailer helping to keep the trailer in line. Your driving comfort is further enhanced if the trailer does begin to sway (from a gust of wind or passing of a semi) because the movement from the trailer is not transferred to the vehicle. This also works to make the sway subside quicker.

An empty truck on a bumpy road without Timbren

Another great feature of the rubber construction is that the springs absorb most of the road shock, creating a smoother, more stable ride overall. Wear and tear on the factory suspension is also lessened as the rubber springs work to prevent bottoming out on rough roads.

Compared to the competition:

Timbren's suspension enhancement systems are much easier to maintain than air springs - no air hoses are needed to be run, no compressors or gauges to hook up, and no manual adjustments necessary. The rubber construction causes Timbren's springs to be more elastic than similar products constructed of micro-cellular urethane. More elasticity allows for a more comfortable ride because the rubber has more travel.

Installed this on my 2009 Caravan because when I had a hitch mount 4-bike platform rack hanging off the back and was loaded with camping gear and family, the rear suspension was terrible, it would bottom out, and my headlights pointed up so that everyone would flash their brights at me. New shocks helped, but did not solve the problem. This product did fix the problem and I am very happy. I was concerned about the feel when the van us unloaded, but this has not been an issue. I highly recommend this product. 796869

Very good addition to my quest for good towing. Easy to install with a little work. Video from etrailer was exactly right. The spring was a little difficult to get back in place but I pushed the axle down an inch below its natural hanging point and got it in. 509022

The suspension system performs perfectly. I replaced the shocks as well and have a great ride even when 6 adults are in the van.

Ford Five Hundred

We ordered the bump guards for my handicapped transfer van. I have a power wheelchair that weighs three hundred pounds without anybody in it, with my body weight we are pushing five hundred. This additional weight was killing the suspension of the van. These news guards raised the body, tightening the suspension and made for a safer and more comfortable ride. They prolonged the life of the van as well. 721063

2013 Chrysler Town and Country

I have a 2013 Chrysler Town &Country that I load down with a roof and a rear rack storage. I was having issues with the rear sitting so low that I couldn't see the top of the rear tires and would occasionally bottom out. Now that these Timbrins have been installed I lose about 3/4 of an inch ride height compared to the 3+ inches I was losing before. It's still a little too early to determine if I'm completely satisfied, so I'll try to provide an update after traveling from Houston to Michigan and back during the holidays. The ride is definitely more firm(when loaded down with the extra storage), which is to be expected, but wouldn't call it jarring. The wife and kids will let me know soon enough. ;) One thing to note about the installation video linked by etrailer in regards to these Chrysler/Dodge minivans... I don't have access to a full vehicle lift, so I had to use a coil spring compressor to pull the coil springs, which is not a big deal because they can be rented(for free with some places) from your local auto parts store. But, they don't just pull out like the video suggests. Also, as others have recommended, disconnect the shock from the bottom, NOT the top. I'm not a mechanic, but not a complete novice. I experienced a few hiccups from following the etrailer video, but was able to work them out with the right tools and patience. 459059

One year update: We have taken two lengthy1000+ mile road trips in our 2013 Chrysler Town & Country with roof and rear rack storage and all we can say is the Timbren suspension upgrade is simply awesome. Our van no longer sags in the rear when loaded down and the suspension changes are practically unnoticed, especially when the van is not loaded at all. I highly recommend this suspension upgrade to anyone who plans on towing or loading up their Town & Country with extra weight.

I attached my pop up camper to my hitch on my 2012 Chrysler Town and Country. I was very concerned because the back end of the minivan dropped so low and the front looked like it was doing a wheelie. Lol! I read about these timbrens from etrailer and still had questions. I contacted etrailer by email and they responded fairly quickly. My question was, "Would I need to buy anything else to go with the timbren?" Items like, load adjusting shocks or heavy duty coils. The rep. said the only thing I would need to purchase was the timbrens and it would correct everything. I was skeptical but the rep. was correct. I couldn't believe my van stayed level. This product is amazing and I highly recommend them. The tutorial videos made the installation easy. Thank you so much for those videos!!! 806261

2015 Chrysler Town and Country

Installed these on my 2015 Town and Country about a year ago. I had awful sag towing a popup trailer (350lb tongue weight) even though the T&C is rated for 500lb tongue weight. The trailer would sometimes bounce enough to drag the bottom of the hitch on the ground. Installing these completely solved the problem. Greatly stabilized towing and I don't notice them at all. I thought about installing them myself as many others have done, but I found a local shop to install them for about $120. 675063

Received my product on time. Product was just as described and were easy to install myself. We haven't hauled yet but did hook up to see how it looked and it seems to have made a big improvement on the rear suspension on our Grand Caravan. I've always trusted etrailers products and pricing so I recommend them all the time. 515314

I bought these hoping they would solve my problem.....and they did. When I loaded up my 2014 Grand Caravan along with 2 bikes on the trailer hitch mount to head south to Arizona on an early December morning in the dark, my headlights were shining up in the air. Although more than I wanted to spend there were not many options available with such a simple install. Thanks to the detailed video and instructions, the installation went without a glitch. My headlight are now shining on the road in the dark and I can feel the added stability. 288808

Easy to install and buffers sit just above the factory plate of lower bumper. Noticed slightly harder ride over bump. I am concerned that the support for the buffer is plastic? This is the part you re use after you remove the factory buffer stop. So now the extra load is transmitted through a plastic support, I would have preferred a metal plate or support for the TDVRRT units. Hooked up the tent trailer and found the vehicle does sit at the correct ride night and is more stable when towing. 262427

2010 Chrysler Town and Country

I drive a 2010 Chrysler Town and Country and tow a pop up camper. In addition to that I also carry my wifes 200 lb power chair in the back of the van. Needless to say the back end of my van was bottomed out. That caused the front end of the van to be up in the air thus giving me less control of the front wheel drive vehicle. After installing a new set of shocks and the Timbren rear suspension on my van What a difference it made. I was a little concerned about the price but the results outweighed the price by a longshot. Now with my wifes power chair and the pop up hooked up, my van sets perfectly straight and my vehicle has better control making the trips a lot safer. The best thing is, I did it all myself and saved a ton of money on labor. 239323

This item took me about 1.25 hours to install on my 2012 caravan. I appreciated other reviewers making in known that an 18mm socket is helpful, and a 18mm wrench would make it even easier to remove the lower bolt from the shock. Two jackstands and a jack were used. One side required me to leave the car up on a jackstand and use the jack to push the axle down to get the shock in and out. Once in, I am simply shocked at the improvement in ride, handling, and cornering. I now regret buying a weight distribution system after pulling my new 24 pontoon over 1.5 hours of hilly southern wisconsin farmland because these did the trick without it fabulously. Shame on dodge for not making this standard equipment. Ten stars. Also see my review on tranny cooler. 219343

  • Will Adding a Vehicle Suspension System Lift my 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan When Carrying Cargo
The Timbren suspension # TDVRRT you referenced will help with vehicle sag and it won't change the ride height even when your Caravan is empty, In addition, it will improve your suspension, handling and ride quality, but you still shouldn't exceed your Caravan's weight carrying capacity. • Suspension Enhancement or Weight Distribution for 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan Towing 21 ft Camper
