Firestone Coil-Rite Air Spring Basics

Firestone Coil-Rite springs fit inside your existing rear coil springs to maximize the effectiveness of your suspension system. The added cushion provided by the air springs allows your vehicle to better handle a heavy load or trailer. Hauling heavy loads or towing a heavy trailer can make the rear of your vehicle sag and the front end rise. This puts more strain on your rear axle and reduces contact between your front tires and the road, causing problems with braking, steering control and traction. By adding air springs to your rear suspension, you can help to level your vehicle for more effective braking and handling under heavy loading or when you encounter adverse road conditions. The air springs also help to level your headlight beams and reduce wear on your tires.

Firestone Coil-Rite airline installation

Adjustable Air Pressure

The air pressure in your Coil-Rite springs can be adjusted manually, side to side, to compensate for off-center loads. A centered load improves the stability of your vehicle by reducing body roll. The air springs will also help to absorb road shock and soften contact between your axle and frame. This prevents bottoming out, thus improving ride comfort. Route the air line tubing for the springs to your vehicle's bumper to provide easy access to the manual inflation valves.

Air Spring Construction

Coil-Rite springs are constructed of durable, elastic polyurethane to ensure years of service. Single replacement springs (sold separately) are available for maintenance to an existing Coil-Rite kit.

Air Spring Installation

The Coil-Rite springs install inside your existing coil springs. The custom-fit springs attach to your vehicle's spring seats.

2007 Ford Fusion

I installed this product on a 2007 AWD Ford Fusion. It was easier to install by completely removing the coil springs during installation. Also, for the AWD model, I had to remove the rubber bump stops and then grind down the rubber supporter for the top of the new blue air bag. There was no need to use the 90 degree elbows and drill a hole in the jounce mount due to a straight vertical hole which was perfect for the air line so there is one less potential leak point. Car rides perfectly and has the stance now that Ford should have done from the factory.

Product has worked out well now. It leaked the first week in which my wife and daughters were going to Florida and I had no time to change it out. After sending several photos to customer service, I received a new bag I did not request a whole kit and installed it and have not had one single problem in one year. Thanks for a great product.

by:

The way they have you run the air line is bad it leaked so I ran line direct to air bag worked all summer long didn't make through winter leaks again this will be 4 times iam done them iam going to just in tembins there a hard rubber and won't leak and don't have to do anything but install them once

Worked perfectly with a double motorcycle carrier while hauling two 125cc dirt bikes.

A little thought to install but after some squeezing and pushing got them installed and the wife said it rides much smoother even with out the camper hooked up.

Great upgrade for carrying weight in the back or towing a trailer. They are a bit tough to install. I found twisting the bag over in the middle and inserting it between the spring to the trick. Insert the top side on the passenger bag first. Insert the bottom side first on the driver side take care with the week ass tubing because if it folds over on itself in a coil, it will remain pinched which I can see will cause problems in the future. The tubing was better 20 years ago than what they give you today. One tube replacement over $30!! Ridiculous !! I like the right height adjustability and my truck feels more stable with a load of weight in the back of my truck advertised in the video shown below.

After installation we are towing on the level and enjoying the ride. In an effort to maintain the minimum air pressure to each Coil-Rite Helper at all times, we installed individual air supplies to each Helper. We used our onboard Horn-Blaster air compressor to supply two air pressure regulators allowing us to easily change air pressure to each individual helper as desired. Each regulator employs a check-valve to maintain pressure to the Helpers in case of a compressor failure. We have marked each pressure gauge to the minimum pressure and another mark for our desired towing pressure.

by:

These air bags for my Santa Fe work great. Little more work as we had to drop shocks and drill holes for the Air line, but that's the model of vehicle. Had an air bag leak from the fitting ( not sure if that is because of how the bag is designed or an install error but they shipped me a new air bag very quickly to replace it. Been a week now and no complaints. Make all the difference with sag when towing a boat or camper. Happy customer.

5 for the product, 1 for Etrailer and Firestone's service. As far as I know, this product continues to be packed with the instruction manual from a different model, which overstates the maximum PSI for this model by something like 50psi. The first one I purchased (that was filled below the max PSI that the instruction manual incorrectly stated) exploded while I was towing. It was terrifying. Both Etrailed and Firestone blew me off, refused to help, and said they could do nothing about the wrong manual being shipped with this product. Around a year later an Etrailer rep sent a satisfaction survey and eventually refunded me, but it was incredibly frustrating.
The airbags themselves work as intended and I bought a second pair now that I know to ignore the manual.

by:

This is the best addition I've ever made to a tow vehicle! I have a 2020 Ram eco-diesel and I pull a 2016 Rockwood 25' travel trailer. Combined weight is about 11,000 lbs. These air bags help the truck handle much more confidently. My wife noticed a difference on our last trip (2200 miles round trip). The half ton Ram does a great job, the bags eliminate the little bit of squat. The level combination makes towing a breeze. The only hang up is installation. They do not squeeze between the spring coils. I installed mine at home but it wasn't easy.

by:

The Firestone airbags are very well made and has quality feel. It was not very warm in MN when I installed them so I needed to use lubrication and a heat gun to warm the airbags from a distance so the airbags would be pliable. My gladiator has a Decked drawer system and rear steel bumper installed which caused the rear to squat more than the front. After installing these airbags and learning that I was fluent in “FRENCH” the rear of the truck was raised and squatting issues addressed. The drive was improved as well, less body roll around curves.

by:

I installed this on a Toyota Land Cruiser to help with larger trailers I was pulling. The install was a little more complicated than expected probably because of the age of my vehicle (2001) but with a little creative adjustments the work was done in about 3 hours.

I chose to run both sides on one inflator. After install I inflated them to recommended pressure and the truck rode just as it had with no bags. When I put a trailer on (6500) I inflated bags to about 25 pounds and the truck leveled out and the ride was wonderful.

I got another pair for my son and I am installing them on my new truck when they have a set for my model year

Exactly what I needed, work great, Thank You etrailer.com!

by:

So I will start with the good, good quality and well built. The bad was the install, in the video they claim you can deflate and slide thru coil springs, maybe if you have a lift and can walk under this is possible. If you are doing these in your garage with vehicle on jacks, forget about it!!! Ended up dropping the springs out and inserting bags, that was the ONLY way I can get them to fit. Does what they are designed for and feels like they will last.

by:

I have purchased 3 sets of Coil-Right. The product is very good but the installation instructions were terrible. The first set (2023) I installed per video instructions and it failed. The puck that is placed at the top of the bladder fell of and caused a catastrophic failure. The bladder was punctured and was basically destroyed. The second set (2023) I installed per the video but I enlarged the hole in the puck to help is stay on top of the bladder It failed also. The third set (2024) installed per the new installation instructions which removed the bump stop at the top of the tower. So far they seem to be working better but I think eventually the puck will diappere because there is nothing to hold it inside the spring. Time will tell. This is the only product for my vehicle I can use. 2021 Toyota Sienne LE.

by:

As most have indicated fitting the bags in the springs is the hardest part. one tip I found helpful was once the bag was partially in, force the bottom of the bag with the air tube into the center of the spring then slowly let the air go back into the bag. Once it had some air in it i was able to move it around and get into place. once installed at 20 psi it raised my back end two inched. from 35" to 37" It is now level with the front of the vehicle. my vehicle is a 2015 armada platinum. Yes it has the auto leveling system. But the system wasn't functional. I've used these before in a 2010 armada platinum and it worked out great

by:

The kit works but unfortunately the bags leak out within 15-20 minutes. I had to route the lines inside the cabin and have my son maintain pressure during the long road trip

by:

Great product. I must say that they were a little tough to install. A very tight fit. Fortunately for me I had the availability of a vacuum pump. With that I was able to evacuate all the air out of the bags which made them flatter, with that, it made it easier to slide them between the coil springs. I tow a small camper trailer, I usually run around 20 psi in the bags. This keeps my vehicle level and adds for a smooth ride. A great product.

by:

They work good put 20000 miles on car and have no issue. The squeak a little once in awhile but only noticeable when window down. They are much easier to put on with car jacked up and tire off.

by:

Night and day difference. This truck has always rode more like a car, which is great, but it's a little under sprung for any real truck work. These bags made it perfect. 95% of the time I leave the bags completely empty, and when I want to pull my trailer or carry anything in the bed, just put a little air in and it's good to go.

by:

Great product! Installation was a bit tricky. Using spry on soapy water helps. The bags have been very durable and very reliable holding air at 35psi. I have them installed on my Jeep Gladiatorfor a year and no issues to report. No sagging when towing my 20’ camper trailer. I am very pleased with this product.

by:

Installed on a 2016 4Runner in conjunction with a 1-1/2" Daystar coil spring spacer. Since the coil spacer is hollow, I left one segment of the factory bump stop in place to compensate for and match the height of the spacer. I also added a Firestone T-fitting on the airline for a single inflation point and located the inflation valve next to my trailer plug wiring. Quite a pain to wrestle the coil back in place with the added height of the spacer, but that is no fault of the airbags; pry bar proved critical to wedge the coil back in place since I did not try the bottle jack between the frame and axle trick. After nearly a year, no leaks, bags hold air well. I put 25 psi in them for towing our travel trailer, or keep them at 10 psi for normal running around. I have also found them useful to prevent or at least reduce bottoming out the soft rear suspension that happens when off road driving with even just a couple hundred pounds in the back. Even at 25 psi they ride great and you wouldn't know they are back there at 10 psi. Highly recommend for the low cost and added versatility!

  • Will the Firestone Coil-Rite Air Spring Fit a 2007 Ford Fusion AWD Without Rear Strut
We have found that some of the 2007 Ford Fusion AWD models have struts not only in the front, but in the rear as well. The Firestone Coil-Rite Air Helper Springs, # F4169, were designed to fit the models that only have the bump stops inside of the rear coil springs, not the struts. We had a 2007 Ford Fusion on our lot, so I took a picture of the rear suspension with the bump stop in the coil spring. If your rear suspension looks like the photo that I have attached, then you can use the...

You do not have to worry about the bags being cut on either kit. The bags are designed to flex and will not cut inside the springs from normal use. I recommend this hitch highly as it has great towing capacities at 4,000 lb trailer weight and 400 lb tongue weight as well as it's priced great. Then for suspension enhancement I would recommend an air bag kit like the Firestone part # F4169 over a jounce style as with an air bag kit you can lower the bag pressure when not needed so...
