An example of sag on a truck's rear axle under a heavy load. The Timbren Suspension Enhancement System levels the vehicle.

Whether you're hauling heavy loads in the cargo area or by pulling a trailer, you will often see the rear sag while the front end rises. In these cases, the rear axle is handling not only the weight of the cargo, but more of the truck's weight, as well. Because less weight is on the front axle, the front tires are making less contact with the road. Overall handling - traction, steering, and braking - is negatively affected. But the resistance from Timbren's Suspension Enhancement System works with your factory suspension to keep your vehicle level and improve your driving experience.

Diagram of the Timbren spring installed

The Timbren system has a custom-fit bracket that will be bolted onto each frame rail above the rear axle. Hollow rubber springs are bolted to the bottom of the bracket and hang down to where the bottom of the spring sits, one inch above the axle. The inch of clearance allows the existing factory suspension to operate normally under light loads and standard terrain, ensuring the smooth, comfortable ride that you are used to.

Animation of a standard Timbren rubber spring

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Systems are designed to work progressively. When the hollow rubber springs are compressed, the convoluted design causes them to quickly collapse along the folds. Once the folds are compacted, the stacked barrel shape increases resistance, stiffening the suspension and keeping the truck level.

Timbren suspension system works to prevent body roll

Each hollow rubber spring works independently to support the driver's or passenger's side of your vehicle. This is helpful when you swerve or make sharp turns. Each spring is activated when it is needed, so body roll is greatly reduced. The independent action also works well when you are hauling off-center loads.

An example of a trailers swaying

Because the vehicle handles better with the springs, less turbulence will be passed along to the trailer, and this helps to keep the trailer in line. Your driving comfort is further enhanced if the trailer does begin to sway (from a gust of wind or a passing semi), because the movement from the trailer is not transferred to the truck. This also works to make the sway subside more quickly.

An empty truck on a bumpy road without Timbren

Another great feature of the rubber construction is that the springs absorb most of the road shock, creating a smoother, more stable ride overall. Wear and tear on the factory suspension is also lessened because the rubber springs work to prevent bottoming out on rough roads.

Compared to the Competition

Timbren's suspension enhancement systems are much easier to install than air springs - there are no air hoses to run, no compressors or gauges to hook up, and no manual adjustments to make. The rubber construction makes Timbren's springs more elastic than similar products constructed of microcellular urethane. And more elasticity allows for a more comfortable ride because the rubber has more travel.

Video Transcript for Timbren Front and Rear Suspension Enhancement Systems Review

Speaker 1: Today we're going to be taking a look at the Timbren line of suspension enhancement systems. Any time that we add weight to our vehicle, it's going to put a lot of strain and stress on the suspension, especially if we're towing a heavy camper, trailer, or we have a heavy load in the back.Tends to have the back end squat down, which again, it's going to put that strain and stress on the rear suspension because not only are we asking it to hold up the weight of the vehicle, but everything else that we add on to it. Which that can arise a lot of different issues. The front end is going to be getting pulled off, which will misalign our headlights, and our tires won't have as much contact, so our steering and braking is going to be diminished. But tat;s where timbrens are going to come into play. They're going to provide us that extra support so that when we do have those heavy loads, the back end doesn't sag down quite as much, and it's not putting so much stress on the back end. By doing that, the front end's not going to rise up, which means our headlights will be in line and our tires will have the correct amount of contact and pressure, so our braking and steering isn't affected.

And they're going to do that all while making our ride more comfortable with that extra load. Our timbrens are going to provide us the support we need by replacing our factory jump stops and mounting in between the frame and the axle. Now, yours may look different, so you want to double check inaudible 00:01:20 fit guide for your specific application. Now, each one of our timbrens is going to feature a steel bracket. They're all going to have black, powder coat finish on them to resist that rust and corrosion or any other kind of chemicals that may be on the road. They're going to have a hollow, rubber ayon 00:01:36 spring that's going to take a lot of that pressure and strain off of the rear suspension.Whenever we do load our vehicle down, the space between our frame and our axle is going to get smaller. That's where our spring is going to make contact with the axle, and it's going to start compressing.

Now, they are progressively rated, so if we have a small load or a light load, it's going to have a little soft engagement. But the further it gets compressed, the harder and stiffer it becomes, giving us the support we need with those heavy loads. And since they are rubber, they're going to have a lot of give to them, which means they're going to give us the support we need. But at the same time, they're going to give us some more cushion and absorb some of the road shock as we drive. And since the rear ones here aren't in constant contact with our aXle, it is going to provide us the same ride quality when it's unloaded. Our timbrens are going to work independently from each other from side to side. That way, if we have an off center load, it will help compensate for that, but at the same time, if we take an evasive maneuver or a really sharp turn, this is going to help reduce that body roll and some of that sway feeling that we get going on when we have a lot of added weight. Our timbrens for the rear are going to be a good enhancement for any time you're going to be adding weight to the back of your vehicle, whether it be a heavy trailer, a large load in the back or any other situation where you're adding a lot of weight to the back of your vehicle. Now, timbrens on the front are going to be a little bit different.

They're going to provide us that load-leveling support and make sure the front end doesn't get pushed down too far. However, these typically are going to be in contact all the time, which means it's going to give us that support and help reduce on that body roll all the time, all while absorbing that road shock, giving us a smoother ride. Now, some situations where you'd want that extra support on the front of the vehicle to keep it from getting pushed down too much would be if you have a snow plow or winch, if you flat-tow your vehicle, or if you have any other heavy accessory on the front. This is going to make sure that front end stays where it should be, and again, making sure our tires, braking and steering acts how they should. When comparing the timbrens to other suspension enhancement options like airbags, these are going to be a lot easier to install because we're not going to have to worry about running lines, maintaining air pressure, putting in switches or compressors or any of that. Once these are installed, these are going to be completely maintenance free. However, airbags are going to provide us with a lot more adjustability, whereas our timbrens are not going to have that. That'll finish up your look at the timbrens suspension enhancement systems..

Extremely simple install! The package was shipped quickly and arrived in perfect condition. The removal of the OEM bump stops and installation of these new ones took less than 15 minutes. All required hardware was supplied to use in concert with the existing OEM hardware. The day after I installed the new Timbren bump stops on our 2015 Ram 2500, I loaded my 24 foot trailer with cattle (weight was around 14,500lbs) and drove 120 miles. These new bump stops made a world of difference in the stability and control of my vehicle. Highly recommend this upgrade to anyone looking for some additional towing stability. 726338

I recently received a set of the suspension enhancers for my 2016 RAM 2500 4x4. The product was delivered sooner than expected. Installation was ok except for the rear bolt in the passenger side. To tighten the bolt, I had to modify one of my box end wrenches and get it as tight as I could because there is about 2" between the bolt and the frame. I my opinion, this should be somewhere in the description so the proper tool can be purchased. Also, who ever put the sticker on the parts got them reversed. Left and right is referenced from behind the steering wheel and not looking at the front of the vehicle. "No big deal, it just sucked up a little time to install, remove and reinstall." I did not use the disc spacer because it made the truck undrivable on ruff roads. Haven't towed my camper since the installation so I won't know how well they work until I do. 425776

These do really well for supporting a full load or trailer attached. But if unloaded the will create whiplash if you go over a speed bump or anything that creates the axle to spring up and hit them. 611025

I installed the kit this afternoon after work using the car lift that's available for my use. I installed the kit using the spacers as suggested by the MFG for use for medium to heavy duty trucks. The install was very simple. The vehicle being unloaded, the ride is too harsh for my likening. I will probably be removing the spacers to see if this helps with my ride when unloaded. My goal was to prevent rear end sag when towing or hauling without the use of an air bag system. I will be towing an RV and loading camping goodies in the bed of the truck when underway. I'm hoping that the spacer removal will restore my confidence in my purchase decision? 346843

I chose these because they were not really supposed to effect the ride while unloaded. I initially left these on my ram 2500 while I was towing constantly. They worked really well while I had a significant load on the back of the truck. My ride was a bit stiffer and the truck would not say down to low. They worked like they were supposed to. I ended up taking them off the truck because the ride would jar you when unloaded. The inch of clearance between the timbren and the truck would give it just enough flex to start the suspension as it should then come to a complete stop. I would say if you have a very heavy load in the back of the truck or are hooked up to a trailer all the time, then these are awesome for the money. If your looking for a decent ride loaded and unloaded, then not so much. I ran these for about 2 months, now they are sitting in the box collecting dust. I opted to change to airbags. The ride quality is great now loaded or unloaded. Just my two cents. 486233

I pull a heavy fifth wheel trailer and used the timbren rear suspension enhancement system and it keeps the pickup at better then level and made the ride and handling so much better. Easy to install and do not have to deal with air bags . Thanks to e trailer and good advise I now have solved my problem. The vehicle I have is a 2014 dodge ram 2500hd with coil springs which requires a certain kind of timbres product. 150029

Had these on my truck for 1 day and already removed them. I towed my flat bed and dump trailer both around 12-14k lbs. yes they kept the truck level but the ride was horrible. Every bump you hit rattles the whole truck. I'll deal with a bit of sag over that ride any day. 412835

Super easy to install and works very well when hauling heavy loads, less sag on rear of truck and more stability when turning, would highly recommend these for an alternative to airbags, as always great working with the guys from etrailer.com, have ordered several things thru them and am never disappointed, quick to ship and very helpful, customer service at its best. 562953

Best thing I ever bought for RVing. Before, just hitting a bump in the road would start my truck/camper combo rocking. Now, one rock then steady! My wife is no longer afraid we will careen off the road out of control. 452990

STILL GREAT! Been on 2 road trips totaling 35,000 miles, to include The Dalton Highway to the North Slope and Deadhorse and across the plains states at 90 MPH and they have worked beautifully. Best investment I have made for my truck. P.S. Have a truck camper so all the weight is on the truck, not just the tongue weight.

The installation on the drivers side went great. The passengers side I had to cut a 5/8 wrench in half to tighten one on the bolts. There was a bracket or brace in the way. My 2016 Ram 2500 Tradesman sits level now when I hook my 9000 lb. Tiny House on Wheels to it. SandD Stained Glass. 293370

After some research I decided on the Timbren system instead of air bags. I am glad I did! These were a simple install, only took me about 30-40 minutes to do both sides. I am VERY happy about how they work when I am hitched to my bumper pull camper. 384464

Took longer to read the instructions and clean then grease off my arm (which I got from rubbing against the lower shock mount), than it did to install. The drivers side is SIMPLE, the passengers side is a bit more tricky, because on the 2014 RAM 2500, the right side mount is directly ahead of the upper suspension torsion bar mount, so it's tough to get a wrench in there. I have a 15mm curved thin wrench, which worked perfectly! I've attached photos of both sides, so that you can see what I mean. 141108

Excellent product! Went on in less than 10 minutes with a 15/16" wrench. Leveled the truck out under load and significantly reduced roll. Awesome bang for the buck. And etrailer service was spot on, as usual. 378049

I still think these are an excellent alternative to bags and very cost effective. My only complaint is that on my 15 Ram 2500 I have to switch out the extra spacers when I’m not towing heavy. The axle and Timbren spacers make contact when unloaded and causes a harsh ride. The good news is that the extra spacers go in and out in minutes I don’t tow heavy very often. With the spacers in I am able to pull a 43’ toy hauler with little roll and excess bounce, an the truck sits fairly level

These work great to keep my new truck level and a comfortable when towing my fifth wheel. Only warning - don't put these on a high mileage truck if the springs are sagging. There will not be enough gap between these and the stops and the truck will hit these even over bumps when unloaded and the ride will be bad. I found this out the hard way on a previous truck. Not the products fault, they work great as designed on newer trucks without any suspension sag. 545761

I have had these on my 2015 Ram 2500 for about a year now and they are still working great. With these installed i only get about 1-2 inches of sag with my camper hooked up. The tongue weight on my travel trailer is around 800-1000lbs plus whatever cargo i put in the truck bed. 441097

This suspension enhancement system works excellent! I have a 5th wheel coach that has over 3,000 pounds of tongue weight. My truck does not squat in the rear at all! The handling of the truck in the corners improved dramatically as well. If you carry heavy loads with your truck this is a must have. Biggest bang for your buck!! 441823

This product works great. My trailer weighs 13,500. When going around turns the system keeps the truck from swaying and leaning into the turn. With it being stiffer than the OEM blocks I am.able to haul more without having the truck sag. I did not use the additional block. It made the ride way to rough. Highly recommend. 430888

2015 Ram 2500

Took a while to figure out the best way to install and then went fairly easy, Dodge doesn't give you the most room after they put the truck all together. The reviews and results were about the same, Truck ride stiffer but more secure with trailers or empty on rough roads. I have a flatbed with hydraulic bale forks that I use with 1200>1500 hay bales, the flat bed empty weighs in around 1000# and now performs without any roll on uneven ground, when loaded. Good product and well designed and didn't change the stance of the truck. 447315

l think I would elect to try the inflatable air bags for use at different pressures to raise the bed to different angles for the loads that are different. Empty it is comfortable as the bed itself is heavier than most, that being said, at night I get complaints on the headlight position in the low beam even empty. Worth thinking about, any suggestions?

I think that the airbags would be a great idea for your 2015 Ram 2500, with your flatbed and bale loader configuration I recommend the # F2706
Firestone Ride-Rite Red Label Extreme Duty Air Helper Springs - Rear Axle
$452.85
. THis installs in the same location as the factory jounce springs, so you will have to remove your Timbrens to install the new airbag system. I have included a link to the part, instructions, and a video for your reference.

I recived sooner than expected in good condition.Drivers side took 15 minutes passenger side took a little longer not much room to turn wrench. You need a short or s shaped wrench to tighten.Took about 40 minutes to install altogether.I didn’t use the 1”spacer have 1 1/4 inch space between Timbrens and axel.I do not feel any harsh ride at all.l loaded up camper took it for a 60 mile drive and Timbrens work great no sway or anything that is all I did to suspension.Camper weight is around 2600# dry.Have about 2”of sag that’s fine by me.Set em and forget em.I would definitely recommend. 582542

These Timbrons have been great for hauling our 8,000 lb living quarters horse trailer (loaded with 3 horses weight goes to 11,000 lbs). They were super easy to install - like 15 minutes (and remove if needed when not hauling). I would have given 5 stars, but they are too stiff when not towing or hauling a load in bed. Way easier to install than airbags and no worries about filling with air or a blow out. Can't go wrong just be aware of the stiffness without a load. 710856

Thank you for your thoughtful question; let's start with the suspension components for your 2017 Ram 2500 first. I recommend using the Firestone Ride-Rite Air Helper Springs # F2598 over Timbrens for your application. The Ride-Rite air bags have the advantage of being able to adjust individually to guarantee you even load distribution, and are going to be less rigid than the Timbrens. As far as a fifth wheel hitch, you are going to have to use a Sidewinder because you have a Rambox...

  • Will Removing Spacer Improve Ride Quality with Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement
It is typical to have approximately 1/2 inch of space between the bottom of the bumper and the axle. Removing the spacer will help to improve the ride quality. With the spacer gone, the distance increases to 1-1/2 inches, and will improve ride quality by giving the axle more room to move over bumps before contacting the bumper. However, by removing the spacer to improve ride quality, you will experience more sagging than if you keep the spacer installed. The # TDR2500D jounce springs...

  • How to Decrease Vehicle Sag and Improve Ride Quality on a 2014 Ram 2500
I have the perfect option that will give your 2014 Ram 2500 both comfort and support but the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System part # TDR2500D are prone to creating a stiff ride. I cannot guarantee whether or not you will experience this discomfort but if the springs are loaded then the chances of a stiff ride are high. For the best of both worlds (support/comfort), I recommend using a set of airbags like the Firestone Ride-Rite Air Helper Springs part # F2598. This airbag kit...

  • Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System for a 2016 Ram 2500
The correct Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System for your 2016 Ram 2500 as long as you do not have the factory air suspension is part # TDR2500D. I spoke to my representative at Timbren and they informed me that the above system has a total overall height (bracket + spring) of 6-3/4" using the supplied 1" spacer or 5-3/4" without using the supplied 1" spacer. I have attached a review video of the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System for you as well.

  • Timbren Suspension Enhancement Kits for 2015 Ram 1500 and 2500
There are different Timbren fits for the two trucks you mentioned. For a 2015 Ram 1500 the correct kit is the part # TDR1500DS and for the 2500 of the same year the correct fit is the part # TDR2500D. Now for lifted veicles Timbren makes spacers to take up the additional gap created by the additional suspension travel. For a 1 inch spacer you'd need # A25723-90AH00. For each inch of suspension lift you'll need a spacer like this.

  • Helper Springs for a 2014 Ram 2500 Diesel with 5th Wheel Prep Package
For a 2014 Ram 2500 the only Timbren system that is listed is # TDR2500D. The other one you mentioned, # TDRTT3500D, is designed for 3500 models and is rated much higher that you would need at 12,000 pounds. System # TDR2500D is rated for 8,600 pounds but considering that the pin weight of the trailer will be much lower than this that 8,600 pounds is more than enough. The springs install on the bottoms of the truck frame rails so they will not interfere with the 5th wheel prep package...

  • Suspension Enhancement Recommendation for 2015 Ram 2500 with Factory Air Suspension
For suspension enhancement for your 2015 Ram 2500 with the factory air suspension we have the Timbren kit part # TDR2500D which would fit and work well. It will give you up to an additional 8,600 lbs of suspension support. This will help you safely tow within your towing capacity but will not give you capacity beyond what Ram recommends for your vehicle.

  • Suspension Enhancement Recommendation for 2014 Ram 2500
While we have suspension enhancement that does fit your 2014 Ram 2500 I checked with Torklift and they do not have any Stableloads that fit your truck. Instead a Timbren kit like part # TDR2500D would be a great option that is confirmed as a fit. The Timbrens are great as they give you suspension support when your truck is under a load but since they do not activate when the truck is unloaded your ride quality doesn't suffer.

  • Timbren Suspension or Weight Distribution for a 2015 Ram 2500 Power Wagon and 7K Travel Trailer
If the stock air suspension on your 2015 Ram 2500 Power Wagon isn't enough to prevent the rear end from sagging when towing the 7,000 pound travel trailer then the best solution is going to be weight distribution. Weight distribution will keep the truck level by applying the tongue weight more evenly to all access of the truck and trailer. Timbren springs, # TDR2500D, will help prevent rear end sag but could provide a stiffer ride. To choose a weight distribution system you will need...

  • Rear Suspension Enhancement Recommendation for a 2014 Ram 2500 with Coil Springs
I would recommend the Timbren Rear Suspension System part # TDR2500D for your 2014 Ram 2500 with coil springs. This system has been confirmed to fit your vehicle that has coil springs and will provide you with additional suspension support when the vehicle is loaded. Also, it won't affect your ride quality when unloaded unless you were to hit a large bump. I attached a picture a customer of ours sent us that shows it installed in a truck with coil springs just like yours. Timbrens...

  • Installing Timbren Rear Suspension to Bracket on Part # TDR2500D
I spoke with my contact at Timbren regarding the Rear Suspension Enhancement System # TDR2500D referenced in your question. The bolt that attaches the spring to the bracket should be be tightened to 33 foot pounds of torque. When the bolt is tightened all the way, there should not be any movement or spinning on the spring. You will want to tighten it down until it is completely snug to the bracket, as you mentioned in your question. I have attached the installation details for you...

  • Recommended Helper Spring Option for 2019 Ram 2500
I really like the air spring option, because you can fine tune the amount of air pressure in the system to customize your ride firmness any way you want, which isn't an option with the jounce-bumper style options like Timbrens that have no adjustability. You didn't mention exactly what you'd be carrying, but I'd recommend the heavy duty Firestone system, part # F2706 which works great on vehicles that don't already have air suspensions. It's also compatible with fifth wheel or gooseneck...

  • Rear Suspension Enhancement For 2014 Dodge Power Wagon
The suspension enhancement systems we offer are not designed to increase the towing capacity of your 2014 Dodge Power Wagon. From my research I found the maximum towing capacity for a 2500 is 20,000 lbs and for a 3500 series, the towing capacity is 30,000 lbs. A system like the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System, part # TDR2500D, is designed to help the vehicle when a heavier load is placed on the rear of the vehicle. It will not affect the ride of the truck when no load is...

  • How Tall is Timbren Spring that Fits 2019 Ram 2500
The Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System # TDR2500D for your 2019 Ram 2500 has an overall height of 6-3/4 inches if you used the provided spacer and 5-3/4 inches if you did not use it. Timbren likes to recommend 1 inch between the axle and the Timbren when the truck is unloaded. We have found that this works the best. This allows the suspension to feel when the vehicle is unloaded and still gives you support when needed when towing. Use the spacer as needed to achieve that distance.

I tried looking up the part TD2500D that you referenced but I couldn't find anything. The Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System # TDR2500D that fits your 2015 Ram 2500 is rated for 8,600 lbs as listed on our site. I verified this with Timbren. Please note that this weight rating will not increase the weight capacity of your Ram. It is only designed to help support an OEM suspension that is it good working order. Attached are some review videos and the written installation instructions...

  • Will SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs Soften the Ride In a 2016 Ram 2500
In order to help you smooth out the ride on your 2016 Ram 2500 I would need some more info from you. For starters, are you using the factory jounce springs? Regardless of which jounce springs you are using, are they engaged/compressed while unloaded? If the jounce springs are engaged/compressed while unloaded then there is a possibility that the SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs part # SSR-312-54 would improve ride quality although if ride quality is your utmost concern then I would...

When it comes to carrying a truck bed camper, I always go with Timbren Suspension Enhancement Systems over the SumoSprings Custom Helper Springs similar to the # SSR-312-54 . With that being said, I think the better solution for your 2015 Ram 2500 are the Timbren # TDRTT3500E, since they are specifically designed for trucks carrying truck bed campers. The Timbren # TDR2500D would also work but are meant more for carrying heavy payloads and may not provide as much body roll dampening. The...
