Derale Transmission Coolers - D13611

11" Wide x 3-7/8" tall x 1-1/4" deep, radiator-style heat exchanger improves the performance and overall functioning of your vehicle's transmission. Includes hose-barb adapters to fit the 1/2" NPT inlets.

Features:

  • Prolongs life of transmission
  • Improves overall performance
  • Prevents heat-related failures
  • Has furnace-brazed aluminum construction and 1-1/4" wide turbulator plates for more efficient cooling
  • Includes complete mounting kit, OEM spec hose with stainless steel clamps, Insta-dapt radiator adapter and hose-barb fittings
  • Sleek design makes this ideal for use in compact cars

Specs:

  • Inlets: 1/2" NPT
  • Fittings: 1/2" NPT x 3/8" hose barb
  • Overall dimensions: 11" wide x 3-7/8" tall x 1-1/4" deep
  • Distance between inlets: 8-7/8"
  • Mounting dimensions: 6-3/4" wide x 3" tall
  • 1-Year warranty

Note: The Derale Insta-dapt radiator adapter fits most vehicles with 5/16" transmission lines, but not all. In some cases, additional fittings or alteration of the OEM lines or hoses may be required for installation.

One of the more popular cooling systems available, the radiator-style, plate-and-fin heat exchanger provides increased surface area so that fluids can spread out along the finned chambers to cool faster. In addition to the increased surface area, this cooler also features turbulator technology, whereby fluids are agitated continuously, not only to facilitate heat transfer, but also to prevent any undesirable drop in pressure.

Video Transcript for Derale Transmission Coolers - Plate-Fin Cooler - D13611 Review

Today we are going to show you Derale Series 9000 plate-fin transmission cooler, part number D13611. In addition to the transmission cooler, you will also receiver the hose, the mounting kit and the line connection kit. This particular cooler uses NPT thread fittings on the top to help you with your connections. Transmission coolers are universal fit items. They are not vehicle specific. You need to measure your vehicle to see how much room you have to mount the cooler. The cooler should be mounted in front of the radiator and, if possible, in front of the AC condenser. This cooler measures about 10-1/2 inches wide by about 4 inches tall and it is right at 1-1/4 inches thick. Derale covers this cooler with a one-year warranty. That does it for the Series 9000 plate-fin transmission cooler kit, part number D13611.

The cooler was easy to install, the instruction were easy to follow. I did check the oil temp after pulling a 4000 ft grade pulling a camp trailer with an electronic temp probe and there was a 50 deg temp drop thru the cooler. 669243

Review from a similar Derale Series 9000 in Transmission Coolers

Packaging was damaged but no damage to cooler due to solid construction. Had done online searches for installation tips and suggestions. All very beneficial. However, this cooler is larger than many I saw online and I had to find an alternate installation location. I was able to find a suitable location in front of radiator and minor modification (drilled two additional mounting holes in mount bracket and trimmed one corner for clearance.) Overall has shown lower transmission operating temps. Have not towed since installation and hope that lower temps carry over to towing a load. I give this product, shipping, and customer service a thumbs up. 644257

Product really works well drop trans temp on Silverado from 160 to 125 degrees F. Could not find additional 11/32" tubing so Used 3/8" trans hose for connection- worked fine. Also I mounted on side with inlet at bottom to maximize cooling. 108166

Review from a similar Derale Series 9000 in Transmission Coolers

My vehicle originally did not have a transmission cooler. After warming up, my transmission temperature would typically be 100 degrees higher than the ambient air temperature, whether moving or stopped. Towing the largest enclosed U-Haul trailer (6'x12') would raise the temperature to about 120 degrees above ambient. After adding this cooler, the transmission stays about 70 degrees higher than the ambient air temperature on the highway, and 80-85 degrees above ambient while parked or driving in slow traffic. I haven't towed that same U-Haul trailer since adding the cooler, but towing a much larger (8.5'x20') enclosed trailer raises the temperature to about 110 degrees above ambient. If you can find a spot the cooler will physically fit, it should work for your vehicle. You may have to get creative to solidly mount it. I used an angle grinder to remove part of a factory brace. When doing work in this area of your vehicle, be careful not to puncture the AC condenser! If you do, like I did, you will have to replace it. Some AutoZone locations will rent a vacuum pump and manifold gauge set. Doing your own repair means the total repair cost is only the sum of the new AC condenser and refrigerant. The inlet/outlet NPT fittings on this cooler need to be tighter than you think. I was worried about stripping the threads, and didn't tighten them enough at first. I ended up removing my bumper cover multiple times to tighten them until they stopped leaking. I found the best way to detect a leak was to zip-tie a folded paper towel below the fitting. If it turned red, there was a leak. For my application, I would have preferred built-in 3/8" hose barb inlets instead of the 1/2" NPT fittings. 242582

Review from a similar Derale Series 9000 in Transmission Coolers

Kit had almost everything needed to install on my 09 Subaru Forester. The only extra thing I bought was another four foot length of hose. I made brackets out of metal I had on hand for a more secure mounting, and I installed the cooler with the ports facing the drivers side. I wanted to avoid sharp bends in the hoses so I made loops in both hoses to connect to the existing lines in my car. I also slid pieces of old garden hose over the new hoses at points where it was close to metal parts to avoid chafing of the hoses. The hose supplied with the kit was the correct diameter for my car and the hoses slid onto the existing fittings. I took my time with the install. I had to move the horn so I could position the cooler on the drivers side in front of the radiator and AC condenser. Routing of the hoses to the existing connections required some planning (and an extra hose) but everything else is very simple. Very nice kit! 286681

2006 GMC 1500 This product is solidly designed and the installation kit well thought out. The connection hose was heavier and better quality than what the auto parts store could provide. I will be adding additional clamps to the connections so there are two on each just as a precaution against leakage. The single clamps are working well for my test period. I fabricated brackets for mine but using the plastic pins would work just as well. It is a huge improvement over the factory cooler. I would recommend it to anyone that is towing near or at truck capacity. 153950

Comments

The cooler is working flawlessly. I replaced the clamps with 12 PEX pipe crimps for a better seal. The transmission has operated within safe temps while towing 7000 lbs on I-70 over the Rocky Mountains. It is a worthy product!

Installed on a 2005 Chevy Suburban 5.3 V8 and took about 2 hours from start to finish. Installation was simple and was able to mount on the A frame in front of the radiator. Installation instructions was clear and was helpful with determine the supply and return lines. Fittings matched up perfect with no need to change out. I had to purchase another 4' of hose but the cooler was a lot simpler to install than I had expected. 32710

  • Recommended Transmission and Power Steering Cooler for 2007 Honda Pilot

  • Some Nissan vehicles like the 2005 Nissan Pathfinder can have problems with the transmission and radiator. If it were me I would look for any signs of leaking fluid at the tranny and radiator. Also, if you notice anything out of the ordinary with the way the vehicle changes gears, I would avoid it. The problem that usually occurs is that the radiator will leak coolant into the transmission cooler cavity. Once you get foreign materials or fluids in the transmission its pretty much done. The...

  • Can Transmission Cooler be Installed on a Vehicle with Sealed Transmission
  • Sealed transmissions make installing a transmission cooler a bit more interesting since there isn't an easy way to add or check fluid. There may not be a dipstick on your transmission, but there is drain and fill plug. You are going to have to use a lube pump to get the proper amount of fluid in the vehicle so honestly your best option is going to be to have a transmission shop do the install since they will have the equipment needed. Prefilling the cooler might get you pretty close...

  • What is Required for Towing a Trailer with a 2004 Honda Pilot
  • I looked up an online version of your 2004 Honda Pilot's owner's manual and it states that additional transmission and power steering coolers are required to tow. It also states that a trailer that weighs 1,000 pounds or more should have its own operating brakes. I've attached an article on coolers that you might like. The firs thing in choosing one is find a place to put it in your Pilot. The best place is always in front of the radiator so it will get as much air flow as possible....

  • Transmission Fluid Temperature Gauge and Cooler Recommendation for a 2013 Dodge Caravan
  • For a temperature gauge you could use to monitor the temperature of the transmission fluid in your 2013 Dodge Grand Caravan I would recommend the # D13009 for a mechanical gauge. This will require you to drill into the transmission pan to install the fitting and sending unit. I attached a picture that shows how it installs on a transmission fluid pan. For a transmission cooler to help reduce the temperature of the tranny fluid you could use the Derale Series 9000 Plate-Fin Transmission...

  • Which Line Is Transmission Fluid Return Line on 2009 Chevrolet Tahoe
  • Typically the return line of the transmission is the one at the bottom of the cooler. You can do a small test to determine which line is the return line. First, start engine while engine is cold. Put the transmission in drive for no more than 10 seconds Stop engine Feel the both of the lines, and whichever one is cooler is the return line that is taking the fluid back to the transmission. To install the cooler you selected, Derale Transmission Cooler, part # D13611, you will also...

  • Bypassing OEM Radiator on 2005 Nissan Pathfinder
  • The Derale transmission coolers we sell are intended as a supplemental cooler that is meant to augment the factory transmission cooler portion of the radiator, not replace it entirely. If you are experiencing the common problem with the radiator leaking causing the engine coolant to contaminate the transmission fluid, your best bet really would be to have the original radiator replaced. I did a Google search using the keywords Nissan Radiator Problem and found that Nissan has extended...

  • Can the Edge Insight Monitor Transmission Fluid Temperature on a 2004 Toyota Camry
  • The transmission temperature on your 2004 Toyota Camry should run through the computer and be accessible through the OBD-II port using the Edge Insight, # EP84130. The parameters that you could potentially monitor include: Battery Voltage Intake Air Temperature (IAT) Engine Oil Pressure (EOP) Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Engine Oil Temperature (EOT) Transmission Fluid Temperature (TFT) Miles Per Hour (MPH) Miles Per Gallon (MPG) Revolutions Per Minute (RPM) 1/4-mile and...

  • Compatibility of Transmission Cooler with Automatic Transmission on 2006 Toyota Corolla
  • You will want to install the cooler on the return line. You can identify which one is the return by starting out with the engine cold, starting it, shifting into gear for about 10-seconds and then back to park, then shutting the engine off. Feel the two lines; the cooler one is the return line. Please note that when you add a cooler like Derale # D13611 (or a larger one) that is confirmed to fit your car you naturally also add a requirement for additional fluid. Toyota insists that only...

  • Transmission Cooler Recommendation to Replace a Faulty Cooler in a 2006 Nissan Xterra
  • Aftermarket transmission coolers are typically marketed as supplemental coolers, not replacement coolers. If you are looking to replace your OEM transmission cooler due to a leaky or damaged cooler, then you will want to install the largest transmission cooler that will fit in the space available. The ideal place to install this cooler would be in front of the AC condenser or radiator to allow for adequate air flow. I would recommend looking at the Derale Series 9000 Plate-Fin Cooler,...

  • Transmission Cooler Recommendation for a 2005 Chevy Colorado
  • The best way to pick out a transmission cooler is to measure the amount of space you have in front of your radiator and pick out the largest cooler that would fit there. If you have room for it I would recommend you go with a Derale Transmision Cooler part # D13502. This cooler measures 11 inches wide by 7-1/4 inches tall by 7/8 inches deep. You will also want the Derale Snap-In Radiator Adapter Fitting # D13035 to make installation easier. Check out the install video and FAQ article...
