Perhaps the simplest type of heat exchanger, the tube-fin effectively cools a variety of automotive systems. The concept is simple: Fluid cools as it travels through the core by transferring heat out to the fins. The fins then provide the surface area necessary for sufficient heat exchange to take place, allowing the heat pulled from the fluid to dissipate into the surrounding air. Quick, easy and effective.

good product form a great company ! my only complaint is this was listed as for my specific truck, but the "insta-dapt" supplied doesn't fit the Dodge truck of my year. even doing my research ahead of time, it seems to be hit or miss whether it would fit as some of them come with 5/16 fittings and some (like mine) come with 9/16 fittings. it doesnt matter the engine size, even other 3.7L dodge trucks of the same year have 5/16 fittings... I think Dodge made a change middle year, but never let the consumer know as mine is a late year '04. no dig deal as I was able to assemble it anyways and got it up and running great and both the radiator and trans are running much cooler now ! I attached the D12902 to the bumper as you will see in attached images. 2 attached images are just before finishing, bumper hasnt been attached yet, one of them is after everything was complete. 189096

This product is great and installation was not bad at all. Only issue I had was that the GM radiator adaptor should come with this unit when you purchase it for a GM truck. Not as an add-on. Thought I could get it at GM but no go. I Had to work with hoses over 30 min to get them over the fittings even with trans. fluid on the hose and male fitting. So far it looks like trans temp has dropped 30 dg. 134485

Super easy install. With the installation video on Youtube it took out any of the guess work. The hose could stand to be about 3" - 5" longer if you are going to center in the A frame of an older chevy grill (I have an 06 Avalanche. I had to offset to the passenger side to use the supplied hoses) But, you can get a longer hose easy enough. Just ran over the pass and back and no leaks. Looks good so far! 377410

Review from a similar Dyno-Cool in Transmission Coolers

Ive got a 1999 4runner that had the unfortunate luck of having the integrated transmission cooler line rupture inside my radiator. needless to say, the transmission didnt agree very well with having engine coolant running through it and finally died out on me. I bought this transmission cooler to isolate the transmission and the engine cooling systems. The cooler arrived a day ahead of schedule, which is always a bonus. I didnt rate it at 5 stars because I havent had a chance to install it yet and see how it performs, but judging by the reviews that I have read so far, the customer service provided and the prompt delivery, I would say that this transmission cooler will keep my truck running for a good long while. Everything pictured arrived in the box and I have no doubt that it will perform as expected. I will definitely recommend this product and this company to my friends! 30988

I ordered this cooler for my daughter's 2012 Nissan Rogue to fix CVT transmission heating up causing it to into limp mode. When I got ready to install, I found there was no place to connect the hoses to the transmission. The vehicle only had the direct "bee hive" cooler. Install was delayed while waiting to get a "4 tube bee hive" from a different supplier for an additional $114. 551625

What is the rated towing weight for a 1999 Honda CR-V? Does a trannie cooler install fairly easily on the Honda CR-Vs? What is the most effective mounting location for the finned cooler? How does the addition of a trannie cooler effect the volume of fluid and fluid level reading on the dip stick? Thanks for your time and expertise.

The towing capacity question is a loaded one. For that, I would refer back to the owners manual. It can vary depending on engine, transmission, drive configuration and more. Furthermore, Honda has some very specific guidelines regarding towing so it's best to defer to them. Installing a trans cooler on a full size truck can be easier because of the extra space, but it is not particularly difficult on any vehicle. We actually have a video of a cooler being installed on a 2006 C-V. We remove the front bumper cover for the video, but you may find you do not need to. (See link). The most effective location will be in front of both the radiator and the A/C condenser. As you move behind each cooling device, the efficiency diminishes. We put ours in front of everything on the 2006 in the video. For fluid capacity, plan on an extra 1/2 quart. Depending on cooler size and construction, it will vary some, but 1/2 qt. is a good rule of thumb.

Very easy install, absolutely no leaks anywhere in the system after putting it into service. I did have to get additional hose for the install due to the location I chose for the cooler (personal preference). I centered it on the bumper side of the radiator to provide the best air flow. Remember to get a quart of transmission fluid to accomodate the larger system volume after the install. I took my grill off to provide the most room for putting the cooler in rather than trying to wedge it between the radiator and grill, made install the nylon fasteners through the radiator and cooler much easier. Should last for many years. 61081

I purchased this for my C6 Corvette A6 transmission. I did, however, bypass the radiator and only use the transmission cooler for the C6. I purchased and used the Derale Radiator Adapter fitting 259-13035 for both the top and bottom and just capped them off to keep debris out of the reservoir. I also had to make some custom mounting brackets. This is an excellent product and it keeps the tranny in a great temperature range. 552474

After one of use on a 2005 Honda Pilot, everything is holding up just fine. The one star less is because of the difficulty in installing it on this particular vehicle. Although this is a universal component, it is MUCH easier to install on pickup trucks. Best of luck with a brand new rubber hose going on with any sort of ease. 521316

Our installers typically use some transmission fluid to make installing the rubber hose on the Insta-dapt fitting easier.

The part itself was easy to install and it does what it is designed to do. Only trouble with installation was with the vehicle, I had to remove part of the front cover on my 09' Avalanche to get to it. Also, I wish I had bought a black one to blend in with the rest of the radiator. 705491

It appears that my transmission temp dropped about 40-60° adding this cooler. The hose was pretty hard to attach to the cooler, even with lubrication. The hose was also to small for my vehicle so I had to source other parts to make it work. I installed it on a 2017 explorer. 661750

Review from a similar Dyno-Cool in Transmission Coolers

Installed this in a 2017 Honda Ridgeline. Mounted it above the factory cooler that was already in the truck. (Flat fin side towards the a/c condenser). I used the insta-mount zip tie kit and also the flex metal mounts to anchor the cooler to the top of the factory cooler bracket as close to the a/c condenser as possible. The vertical bracket (part of the truck) that runs right down the middle of the a/c condenser has to be cut. All fairly minor fabrication. Hack saw and hand drill stuff. The fan has to be reversed to become a pusher. Followed the hood release cable from the interior to run 12 volts to power the fan on at ignition. Haven’t hooked the trailer up yet so I don’t know if this will resolve the hot tranny situation. ( I could smell the tranny getting hot before especially when we stopped at lights). Change your fluid too. etrailer delivered quickly and the cooler was well boxed and untouched. 656607

Comments
We towed our travel trailer 7500 miles last fall almost coast to coast and back. The trailer weighs 4400 lbs loaded. The Ridgeline’s towing capacity is 5k lbs. I kept our speed at around 65 mph. The truck was capable even in mountain terrain. The transmission never overheated. I did change the fluid once during the trip and again when we got back. The cooler worked. Never once did I get that burning smell. I’m almost certain that the cooler saved us a huge overhaul repair. Thanks etrailer.

Review from a similar Dyno-Cool in Transmission Coolers

I just installed this on my chevy avalanche. Flipped the bottom brace around in order to mount to. The hardest part is getting the hoses on the cooler and over the return line. I ended up getting a 90 deg quick connection coming from the radiator instead of using the one I got from etrailer. This keeps the hose from bending as much. Also purchase the installation kit with a hose as you will need an extra hose. After install I wish I would have went with the next bigger unit which is 10 high instead of 7 1/2 as I had plenty of room. 591245

  • Recommended Transmission Cooler for 2011 Honda Odyssey Carrying Kayak or Canoe
For your canoe and kayak, the Inno Locker Watersport Carrier w/ Crossbar Pads - Locking - Clamp On - 1 Boat or 2 Boards # INA446 is my recommendation. In regards to adding a transmission cooler to your 2011 Honda Odyssey it is never a bad idea but it isn't required. Normally a transmission cooler is seen as more of a requirement when towing a trailer, but the idea of adding one especially because you are obviously comfortable doing so is always a benefit. • Is a Transmission Cooler Necessary on a 2011 Honda CR-V
According to my research, the towing capacity of the 2011 CR-V is 1500 lbs. It appears that at most, you will not exceed 2/3 of this capacity, even when you are towing your heavier trailer. Even though you have plenty of remaining capacity, and even with the OEM cooler (probably incorporated into the radiator), a transmission cooler is really inexpensive insurance for your transmission. A supplemental cooler will do an excellent job of providing extra protection to your transmission,...

The Derale transmission coolers we sell are designed more as a supplemental cooler that is meant to augment the factory transmission cooler portion of the radiator, not replace it entirely. It's definitely possible that the transmission cooler similar to the Derale Class I # D12902 you have installed on your 2014 Acura MDX is too small, but the transmission overheating could have been caused by a few other factors as well. On a transmission cooler like # D12902 or any for a 2007 Nissan Frontier, the new cooler is a supplemental unit. The length of hose that comes with the Derale transmission coolers like part # D12902 is 10 feet. That is usually adequate for most vehicles, but on a larger SUV like your 2011 Toyota FJ Cruiser a long hose like part # D13017 could be needed.
