When towing your vehicle with a tow bar, all 4 wheels are in contact with the ground. Certain vehicles - namely, those with front-wheel-drive automatic transmissions - require either a transmission lube pump system or a driveshaft disconnect when being flat towed. Using a tow dolly eliminates the need for those by lifting your vehicle's front wheels off the road. In addition, using a dolly eliminates the need for base plates that clutter the front of your towed car, difficult-to-install wiring, and a potentially expensive supplemental braking system. Also, if you want to tow multiple vehicles, this dolly is a great alternative to traditional flat towing because you don't have to purchase and install brackets and wiring for all of your cars.

Superior Design

Electric Brakes

The built-in electric brakes make it safe and easy to stop your vehicle while you're towing. This meets towing requirements, and also helps prevent the extra wear and tear on your RV's brakes that would otherwise occur because of the added towing weight. An electric brake controller (sold separately) must be purchased and mounted inside your RV to complete the installation. In addition, you will need a 6-way or 7-way trailer connector on the dolly so that it can receive the braking signal from your RV.

Universal Compatibility

The sliding ramps offer a 47" range of adjustment to ensure a precise fit for almost any vehicle you decide to tow. Also, the included wheel nets adjust to fit tires that are up to 30" outer diameter x 11" wide.

This Roadmaster tow dolly was manufactured extremely well. The welds and metal grade are traditional made in America high-quality. Putting it together at home will take two people and the right tools-plan for the day accordingly. I used heat shrink wrap, high quality electrical tape and zip ties to control the wiring better. Follow the assembly directions carefully. This is one heavy product delivery. I towed our Ford Focus and it tows beautifully. Backing up can be challenging. When loading your vehicle you may have to get your front tires very close to the tip of the rack to make the fulcrum effect work. Once again this is a great product and worth the extra $.

Dolly seems fine. Still putting it together. But there was never any any type of tracking information provided. Just a note it was received on the 1st. It said it was shipped on the 5th and then nothing until we got a call for delivery on the 14th. I generally get some sort of tracking information which I much prefer.

Added a spare tire carrier and wheel jack (also available from eTrailer). With attention to all fasteners and tire pressure, tow dolly performed well. First trip out of the box was 4000 miles rt to Yellowstone NP, no problems.

It is a great trailer, very high quality. It is the first time I every used a car dolly, I was amazed how easy and quick you can load and unload your car. Trailer very stable when pulling.

  • Tow Dolly that Can be Used with 2017 Nissan Pathfinder
Since the curb weight of your 2017 Nissan Pathfinder is 4,400 lbs you'd need a higher rated tow dolly like the Demco Kar Kaddy part # DM9713045 which has a capacity of 4,800 lbs. The other dimensions you mentioned are also compatible and this does store folded up but not standing up.

We have a great solution for your situation but we actually don't have tow bar components for your 2017 Kia Sportage since it seems it can't be flat towed with all wheels on the ground. So a tow dolly would be your best and only option like the Roadmaster Tow Dolly # RM-2050-1. Your vehicle can be towed on a tow dolly and since this does not require any modification to the front of the vehicle it covers that as well.

The only option I could recommend would be a tow dolly like part # RM-2050-1 as long as the owners manual of your vehicle says it can be towed with one. Using a tow dolly is slightly more expensive that flat towing but there is much less hassle since there's only one part to buy and virtually no install time. Whereas a flat towing setup can be pricey and difficult for everything to install. I really wish we had a base plate kit available for your 1998 BMW Z3 but I checked with our manufacturers...

  • Can Vehicle Back Up While Towing Vehicle on a Tow Dolly
The simple answer is that you do not. It's not recommended to back a vehicle that has either a flat towed vehicle or a vehicle on a tow dolly behind it because of how short the distance between the vehicles is. Attempting to do so will cause a jackknife that will damage the tow vehicle, the tow dolly or the vehicle on the dolly. Or all three. The only way you can safely back while towing would be to place the vehicle on a flatbed trailer, or to remove the dolly from the tow vehicle.
