Got this to replace a controller on my old harbor freight winch. Works like new now. I have the winch mounted on the ceiling of my garage. Battery in the attic area. I use it in my home brewery to raise and lower brewing pots. True story. 825188

Buyer beware with this product !! I spent alot of time running the wiring to the inside of my van. Then after spending alot of time figuring out how to mount it, I went to the internet for some hints because the mounting plate doesn’t make sense and the instruction manual shows nothing. It was at that point that I saw a blurb about this unit only pulling in with the remote but not out. I never noticed in the advertising that you cannot power outward; it has to be done manually with a hand crank ! So, what value is this winch? I looked at the advertising a few times and finally found a 4 word sentence about it. This should be in one-inch-high letters. Now, I’m stuck with an almost useless product. 793912

the master lock winch 2953AT appears to be made of quality materials. have not winched anything heavy but did try it out. the line speed is slow but that can be expected with a small winch powered by a small motor. packaging was best i have seen and the winch arrived in very good condition. shipping was prompt. 483629

Ask the Experts about this Master Lock Trailer Winch

  • Can Master Lock Electric Trailer Winch # 2953AT Be Powered from SUVs 12V Accessory Outlet
Electric winches such as the Master Lock Electric Trailer Winch # 2953AT can pull significant current when under load. This particular winch draws 20 amps at its rated capacity. An SUV's accessory 12V power outlet cannot deliver the required current to operate a winch at full capacity. These outlets are intended for lower-current-demand items like emergency lights or small air compressors. Optimum winch operation requires a higher-capacity connection directly to a battery, preferably...

  • Can Master Lock Winch # 2953AT Be Used On a Fabricated Tilting Trailer
Thank you for submitting the illustration of the tilting trailer you are fabricating for your hovercraft and for which you are looking for a power winch to raise and lower the trailer deck. The actual weight of the deck should be considered, and this must be added to the 500-lb load of the hovercraft when considering appropriate power winches. If we assume a 200-lb deck weight then this Master Lock winch # 2953AT will have more than enough capacity, especially when used with a pulley...

  • Electric Trailer Winch Recommendation for a 6,000 lb Boat
For boat winches the general rule of thumb is that the ratio for capacity to boat weight is 2 to 1. Since you have a 6,000 lb boat you would want at least a 3,000 lb rated winch. For that I would recommend the Dutton Lainson Strongarm Winch part # DL25215 as it has a 3k rating and would work great for you.

  • Can a Trailer Winch be Plugged Into an AC Power Outlet at the Back of a Vehicle
We do have some AC powered winches but the Master Lock Electric Trailer Winch, # 2953AT, is a DC powered winch so it cannot be plugged into an AC power outlet, even on a vehicle unless you do like you said and hardwire it. Otherwise you would attach it to the vehicle battery or to an alternate car battery if it is not feasible to attach it to the car battery. I have added a link to the AC powered winches we do carry.

  • Can the Wires on the Master Lock Electric Trailer Winch Be Extended and Permanently Attached
The Master Lock Electric Trailer Winch part # 2953AT would work just fine on a boat/trailer. In regards to installation, the winch comes with a wire lead attached to a set of alligator clamps which attach to the positive and negative battery terminals. If you need to extend the wires and would like to permanently attach them to the battery, this is doable but you would need to use the same gauge or larger wire. In regards to the exact route, this would be up to the installer and not really...

  • Can Master Lock Electric Winch 2953AT Pull a 2001 Jaguar XKR Onto a Trailer
Your 2001 Jaguar XKR weighs somewhere between 3,700 pounds and 4,000+ pounds. Since it is a rolling load the winch can be rated lower so the 2,000 pound rated Master Lock winch, # 2953AT, would be sufficient. The rolling load capacity is 6,000 pounds. I have linked a video review of this winch for you.

  • Can 12 Volt DC Trailer Hitch Wiring From a 7-Way RV Connector be Used to Power a Winch
The wiring in your hitch is not rated for use with the Master Lock Electric Trailer Winch # 2953AT. The wiring could overheat and cause damage to the hitch wiring, the winch, or even your vehicle. You will need to wire the winch separately. I recommend the Winch Trailer Wiring Kit # BDW20307. The kit contains properly sized wiring and connectors to make use of the winch easy and removable.

  • Recommended Replacement Electric Winch For Boat Trailer
I've spoken with Master Lock, and have been told that the clutch is damaged and that the winch should be replaced. The winch carries a 1 year warranty, so if you're still within that period you can contact the merchant where you purchased the winch about how to use your warranty. To replace the winch altogether, I'd recommend a higher quality more reliable winch such as the Dutton-Lainson # DL25010. This winch has a higher capacity than needed, but for an electric winch excess capacity...

  • How to Engage Free Spooling Mode on Master Lock Electric Trailer Winch, # 2953AT
The Master Lock Electric Trailer Winch, # 2953AT, has a clutch knob on the side of the winch. You will need to loosen the knob in order to allow the winch to free spool. You can then pull out the cable. The knob will have to be tightened again in order to re-engage the drum with the motor so the winch can pull the cable back in using the motor.

The Master Lock Electric Trailer Winch - 2,000 lbs # 2953AT comes with power cables that are 20 feet long and does not have other lengths available. If you wanted to extend that length 5-10 feet, you would need to use 12 gauge wire like # 12-2-1 sold by the foot and heat shrink butt connectors like # DW05745-5.

  • Winch Recommendation for Pulling Heavy Equipment on a Trailer
We have plenty of winches that will pull a 500 lb load on your trailer, but we do not have any winches that were designed to mount on E-Track rails. A winch should be mounted directly to the trailers frame structure or to a structurally sound mounting bracket attached to the trailer frame. The Master Lock Electric Trailer Winch, # 2953AT, is a good option. This winch has a 2,000 lb line pull capacity, but it has a 6,000 lb rolling load capacity and a line speed of 6 ft per minute. • Can the Line on an Electric Winch Come Out at an Angle on a Boat Trailer
When using any winch, including an electric winch such as # 2953AT, you will need to have a straight line pull at least 12 inches out from the winch. So in terms of angles it shouldn't really be at any other angle other than level. You would then use pulleys such as # CU881081 to change directions. Having a line pull that is not level puts too much stress on the winch.

  • Can You Power Out the Cable on Master Lock Electric Trailer Winch 2953AT
