Hi everyone, Steve here with etrailer. If you've ever wrestled with a heavy enclosed trailer ramp door, you know just how quickly opening and closing it can become a workout. And if that door ever gets away from you, it can become a serious safety issue as well. So folks, we're looking at this conventional ramp door spring for a six and a half foot wide enclosed trailer. Now this spring has 120 pound capacity. It doesn't mean your door can only weigh that much.
It's just saying that it has that much capacity of assistance. Now one of the biggest advances of this spring system is what we call an adjustable fit. So this will work for doors between 40 inches all the way up to that six and 1/2 foot wide. And this is gonna be great for narrow applications. The brackets and the cable drums can be repositioned wherever you need 'em on the bar.
If you need to cut the bar down short, you can certainly do that. You do get the cables, the safety warning bracket, and all the bolts, nuts and hardware and instructions needed for the install. Now that being said, we highly recommend that you get this installed by someone with experience with winding these torsion springs because these can really snap back and hurt you really easily. So again, highly recommend you get these installed by a professional. Now this cable I talked about, it's about 150 inches long, so that's plenty of length for different installation setups. And the spring system uses sturdy steel construction. So this main big steel spring here is gonna be assisting the weight of your ramp. It's also gonna help reduce the stress and wear of the trailer door and hinges over time. And as I said before, you can cut this down to any length that you need.
And it's about four and 7/8 inches tall overall as far as these rollers and the spring system. Now this roller here, if you don't already know, the cable's going to be wrapping around right here on these grooves whenever you're opening and closing that back door. Came completely assembled in box which helped a lot. Took old one off, put new one on and had it adjusted in 45 minutes.
The pin wouldn't go through the cable hole when it was bolted to the door other than that it works very good

Overall worked with some modifications. Pictures show different brackets than what came in package. Actual brackets are not as sturdy and missing middle one. Had to order different brackets because these would bend when ramp was opened. Not sure why the picture shows 3 when it only ships with 2. Must be an update to save some money. Wish I would have know before purchasing. Once installed, springs did their job and trailer ramp is easy to open and close.

Very pleased with the company and the product when it was originally delivered there was a few pieces that were missing. The box was tore up so they may have fell out, but regardless the company sent me new ones right away. Excellent customer service.
Not as Robust as Expected . . . First, the instructions included with the door spring are sparse, with small print and poor quality photos. The mounting brackets are weak and bend under load. This required welding gussets to prevent the entire assemble from moving axially 1/2 inch. The rod is weak and bends under load which required the fabrication of a center support on the shaft. Lastly, the cable bracket placement data was one-size fits all - which is not the case for different doors. This required moving the bracket placement from 18 inches to 30 inches from the top of the door. This was required to prevent the cables from falling of the spools with the door closed. I was going to give the review 3 stars but after writing this review, I'm changing it to 2 stars.
Very satisfied with the ramp door spring assembly. Extremely fast shipping. I was hesitant about installing it myself but only took about an hour and a half to remove and install the new one.
