Have you ever hit a bump while towing and had that road shock jostle and shake you all the way down to your bones? It's a common feeling. Most ball mounts are made almost completely of metal, so there's nothing to help soften the shock when you hit a bump. This results in a bumpy, jerky ride that not only takes a toll on you as you drive, but it beats up your equipment too, leading to premature wear and tear on both your truck and trailer.
Fortunately, the Shocker Hitch HD Air will change all that.
Using a built-in air bag and rubber cushions, the Shocker Hitch HD Air acts like a small suspension system between your truck and trailer. The air bag and bumpers help absorb road shock, creating a smoother, more comfortable ride while also protecting your truck and trailer from unnecessary wear and tear on the brakes, chassis, trailer frame, and suspensions.
The body of the Shocker Hitch HD Air is designed to pivot back and forth on the shank, kind of like a seesaw or teeter totter, as the air bag, which sits directly beneath your truck's receiver, and the cushioned bumpers take turns absorbing the road shock.
When you hit a bump and your trailer bounces, the unit pivots so that the air bag can isolate and absorb the energy. When your trailer jerks forward or backward, the 2 cushioned bumper stops help soften the force.
Using the easily accessible air valve on the side of the unit, you can adjust the air pressure in the Shocker Hitch Air's air bag to best accommodate your trailer's load. If you're hauling heavy-duty landscaping equipment, for example, you can add air to account for the increased capacity. Once the equipment is unloaded, simply release some air so that your underloaded trailer won't experience a stiff ride.
Finding the right pressure for your setup is simple. Once you've hooked up your trailer and the tongue weight is pushing down on the hitch ball, there will be a gap between the top of the adjustable channel and bumper.
Inflate the air bag until the bumper rests flush against the top of the hitch. Once the gap is gone, you'll know the air bag has the appropriate amount of air pressure for your load.
If you happen to get stuck in a situation where you're unable to inflate the bag, there's no need to worry; you can still tow your trailer. Without the inflated air bag, you won't get the full benefit of the Shocker Hitch HD Air, but you'll still get some built-in cushion with the bumper stops.
Adjusting the height of the hitch ball to accommodate for a different trailer takes almost no time at all. Just unclip the adjustment pins and grab the easy-to-grasp handles to remove them. Then slide the ball platform up or down to the desired position. Once you have the correct height, reinsert the pins and secure the clips, and fold back the handles so they're out of the way. Then you're ready to go.

Hello everybody. This is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today we'll take a look at this Shocker HD Air Receiver Hitch with the raised 2 and 5/16ths ball mount, for a two inch hitch receiver. Has a 20,000 pound gross towing weight capacity. Now this is a nice heavy duty shock absorbent hitch. It uses this airbag and these rubber bumpers to provide a nice, smooth and comfortable ride.
This will help extend the life of your truck and trailer by protecting them from unnecessary wear and tear. The enlarged airbag down here and the thick seal steel side plates on it are designed for heavy duty trailers and this will help permit shucking and jerking to give you better control of your tow vehicle and trailer. The plates on it, these steel plates are grade-50 steel plates. They use a cold, rolled, solid steel shank here to provide maximum durability. And these parts are shot-blasted and powder coated to prevent rust.
The airbag, it is an adjustable airbag. It'll let you easily adapt the ball mount to suit your trailer's load. You can fill it with air right here by this air valve, just remove the cap, put your air hose or air line on there, pump air in there and get it to the correct height you need. This will ensure enough shock absorption for your setup and not so much as to cause a stiff ride. Now on the front here you can see there's eight adjustment holes with five available drop positions that'll let you tow trailers of different heights.
The distance between those adjustment holes center to center is one inch. So basically this ball mount here, you could drop or raise it in the channel, to match your application. Right now we have it in the highest part which is the maximum rise position. So that's gonna get you a maximum of two-inch rise. If you drop this down to the lowest position, it'll get you a maximum drop of two inches.
And what's nice is you can take this ball mount out and Shocker has many different hitch accessories like a pintle hook, clevis pin, draw bar attachments, that we do sell separately. That'll fit in that channel and you can hook up to even many more trailers. Now the inside width on the channel itself is 3 3/4 inches. To adjust this ball mount, you have these nice two easy-to-move adjustment pins included. They have these nice large handles on the end, makes it very easy to grasp, so there's no more fumbling with any small hitch pin heads. So basically if you just pull your pins out. Let me turn this around and pull our pin out there. And pull that pin out. And then you can see you can slide these pins out and with both of them out, the ball mount will remove. And again, we mentioned because it has the eight different adjustment holes, when you do put it in there, you can put it to whatever height you need. So what I'm gonna do is just put it right back at the highest position, slide our pin all the way in. All the way through. And then there's another hole right at the bottom. You just slide that one through. Take your pins and your clips here. Just push those back on there to lock it into place. And just like that, you're all ready to go. Pretty easy to move it up or down. Now also I wanted to mention on the pivot point right here, basically this little seesaw and here's your pivot point. You'll notice on the end of it it has this grease-circ fitting, that allows you to connect a grease gun to it and you can lubricate that pivot point. Now the pitch ball is a zinc plated steel hitch ball. It is corrosion resistance. The ball size is 2 and 5/16ths diameter. Now when you do install this into your hitch receiver, you can see it has two hitch pin holes here. You can slide this in. Now the hitch pinning clip or the hitch lock is not included. We do sell those separately on our website. That is what'll secure this two year hitch receiver. They have two hitch pin holes, I mentioned, and there 5/8ths of an inch diameter. And it's two holes because it allow you a length adjustment for your application. This part is made in the USA. These specs again, the application is two-inch by two-inch trailer hitch receivers. It's ideal for trailers between 10,000 pounds and 20,000 pounds. Gross towing weight capacity is 20,000 pounds. And the weight capacity is 2000 pounds. But that should do it for the review on this Shocker Heavy Duty Air Receiver Hitch, with the raised 2 and 5/16ths ball mount.
