Recessed-mount trailer lights install with a grommet, which is often sold separately. These lights extend past the trailer surface and require a hole for installation. If replacing a light, you can utilize the pre-existing hole. If installing a new light, you will need to cut a hole or use a mounting bracket (sold separately) to complete the installation.

Today we're going to take a look at the Peterson trailer stop, turn, and tail light with the steel housing and the red lens. This is a combination trailer taillight that'll serve three functions when it's properly mounted. It'll serve as a tail light, a stop light and a turn signal light. The socket that the bulbs installed in is a vibar socket which absorbs any road shock and vibration to prolong the bulb life and it does use an incandescent bulb that can be easily replaced. The bulb type is 1157. If you notice it has this red lens over the incandescent bulb and the lens is held in place by this metal snap ring.
If you just take a screwdriver and pry that snap ring off, the lens will come off and you can access the bulb. It's all in a nice durable steel housing with a black powder coat finish to resist rust and corrosion. It is a flush mount design. Has the built in mounting flange. Does require a 4-1/2" diameter hole for installation. This is compatible with 12 volt DC systems.
You can see it has a two wire design and includes the brown wire for your tail lights, the red wire for your brake and turn signal. And when you install this, it'll ground through the mounting stud. This is DOT, Department of Transportation, compliant and it is made in the USA. A few dimensions on this. If we measure the overall housing, edge to edge is right at 5-1/2".
Depth of it is right at 1-5/8". Just the light itself, the red lens is right at 4". Distance between the mounting holes, there's three mounting holes. You can see the bottom one is elongated. But basically center to center 4-1/4 and 4-1/4.So 4-1/4 center to center to all three holes.
Again the bulb type we mentioned is 1157. The power draw on this light at 12.8 volts is 2.2 amps. And last thing I want to do is we're going to hook this up just to show you the brightness of the light itself. So I got some 12 volt power here. So what we're going to do, we'll go ahead and hook the red wire up. And we'll go ahead and hook the tail lights up. And what I'm going to try to do with the ground wire is we're going to try to . because it's painted it's sometimes hard to get a ground. So I'm going to try to do is see if there's a bare spot here we can make a ground connection. See it that'll work. And let's go ahead and turn on our power. Just making a ground connection. So we'll go ahead and turn off our overhead lights. And you can see there's your light with the tail light on. And then again if we hit the brakes, you can see brighter light will come on. A second filament comes on which is brighter for your tail light and then if we do the turn signal, you can see there's your brighter light for the turn signal. That's a very bright light. Go ahead and turn back on our overhead lights. Disconnect our wires. But that should do it for the review on the Peterson trailer stop, turn and tail light with the steel housing and the red lens.``.

Great taillight
The product was exactly what I needed. In fact is was identical to the original tail light I was replacing. Fit perfectly on my 1951 m38 military jeep.with no modifications what so ever. I am very pleased with the purchase. I will be shopping here again.
Received replacement taillights and they work great. Just like my old ones. Had the trailer for 34 years so time for some new ones.
Thanks. Order received in good order! Parts are exact replacements for the defective ones on my used 22 yr old trailer! That made installation easy! Thanks again for the availability and quick service.
Product arrived quickly and in great shape. They were a direct fit for my Fruehauf 4X8 trailer and they looked great, too. The same day they arrived, I was back on the road; easy installation.
Worked as intended
