If you’re tired of plastic housings that crack or corrode, this trailer license plate light is built to last. The light is a compact metal cylinder measuring 1-5/16" in diameter by 2" long on a 2-1/2" x 1-13/16" base, giving you solid protection for the bulb and wiring while keeping a clean look.
No need to guess about spacing—this light mounts easily using the 2-inch center-to-center holes on its ear-mount base. It attaches securely to a flat surface and uses the mounting hardware as the ground, so only one wire needs to be run for power. Fewer connections mean less hassle during install and fewer potential failure points down the road.
For anyone who likes clean, simple wiring, this light’s single-wire setup makes it easy. The single lead handles power, and the metal housing completes the circuit when grounded through its mounting hardware. Just be sure the surface is clean metal for a solid connection. If your setup uses a separate ground wire, it can be attached directly to one of the mounting tabs for reliable grounding.
When it’s time to replace the bulb, you don’t have to swap out the whole fixture. This light uses a standard 168 incandescent bulb that can be easily replaced when needed. You can even upgrade later with an LED version like a 194 LED Tower Bulb if you want more efficiency without changing the fixture itself.

Today we are looking at the Optronics Trailer License Plate Light with a heavy duty armor steel chrome plating, part number LP21CB. This light comes with a replaceable bulb. It is surface mounted on two inch centers on the ear mounted base. It has a single wire as it grounds to the hardware or frame of the light. Lets go ahead and supply power to it, and see what it looks like when its lit up.

To be honest, I ordered this $3 part to fill my "shopping cart" to qualify for free shipping.
I already had an old one of these, planning to use it again on my trailer refurbishment.
CON:
- This one does not have a weatherproof rubber gasket around the hot wire exit hole like the old one. I will have to fill it with RTV silicone rubber to weatherproof it.
PROS:
- Has only one screw to retain the cap/head. My older one had two, one of which was probably redundant. This may be a con; probably should use some thread-lock compound on that single retaining screw.
- Comes with modern flat-base plug-in bulb rather than older round-base bayonet pins, for whatever that may be worth.
- Looks good, seems sturdy.
Great quality, it's metal no platsic junk! Was super simple to install. Looks sleek and was delivered exceptionally fast.
Excellent product! We use these on every trailer we produce. Instead of mounting the flange on the outside we knock a hole and place the light through so the mounting flange is hidden behind the plate. Use stainless screws and nuts to secure. Because of the chrome finish this light just disappears in the diamond tread bumper plate. Easy single wire connection.
