Why Do Some Trailer Lights Only have One Wire Run to Them

Question:
Old light had both live and ground wires running to the bulb socket. New light has only live wire attached to socket. Why? Thanks

Expert Reply:
Some trailer light assemblies like the Trailer License Plate Light part # LP21CB ground through the mounting hardware so they only need a power wire run to them.
You will need to make sure this assembly is attached to a clean metal surface so that it grounds properly, If no metal surface is available you can run a wire from the installation bolt to a portion of the trailer frame to supply the ground. I attached a review video for this light for you to check out also.
I also attached an FAQ on trailer wiring for you to check out.
