Video Transcript for TruRyde Trailer Suspension TRSS175 Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at a spring seat for typical 2,000 pound, round trailer axles, with a 1-3/4 inch diameter. The spring seat is a necessary component of your trailer's suspension system. When mounted with a 1-3/4 inch wide leaf spring, it adds extra support and provides proper positioning for the axle. This unit's made from a durable steel construction. It welds on to a round 1-3/4 inch diameter axle, which is a typical 2,000 axle. It sits on top of a 1-3/4 inch wide spring. The cut out on the flat side of the seat surrounds the raised knob on the leaf spring to prevent turning or shifting.

It's going to provide extra support and secure positioning for the trailer axle. Please note that two spring seats are required for each axle. A few measurements to go over with you real quick. Start with the overall length, measuring edge to edge. It's going to measure about 2-1/4 of an inch long. Overall width, measures about 1-7/8 of an inch.

The height, is just shy of 1 inch, about 15/16 of an inch tall. Then this opening, right here, the rounded point, at the widest spot, that's going to give us an opening measurement of really close to an 1-1/2, maybe 1-7/16 of an inch, right in that area. That's going to do it for today's look at the spring seat for typical 2,000 pound, round trailer axles, with a 1-3/4 inch diameter.

I purchased a number of products from etrailer and I am very pleased with them all. The shipper lost my axle. When I contacted etrailer customer service, they handled my problem quickly and I had a replacement axle in a couple days. Well done! The products were all of high quality and the assemble was much easier as a result. I have attached a few pictures of the build for those interested. Thanks etrailer for your great products and service!! 736358

Did a spring over conversion on a pop-up camper, with larger wheels. Easy and gives me a lot more ground clearance. Had to slam through a hundred yards of deep, greasy clay mud out by Chaco Canyon in NM after a big rain. All went well. 711578

Ask the Experts about this TruRyde Trailer Leaf Spring Suspension

  • Parts Needed to Flip Axle on a Pop up Camper
I have exactly what you need, but it will have to come in the form of a couple parts pieced together because an over-under conversion kit or "axle flip kit" as some people call it isn't available for the smaller 1-3/4 inch round axles. To move your leaf springs above your axles, you will want the following parts: Qty 2 - Spring Seats # TRSS175 Qty 1 - U-Bolt Kit # APUBR-10 The spring seats will be welded to the opposite side of the axle as the current spring seats. You may not need...

  • Correct Spring Seat and U-Bolt Kit for my 1-3/4" Round 2,000 lb. Axle
The Spring Seat for Typical 2,000-lb, Round Trailer Axles with 1-3/4" Diameter part # TRSS175 are confirmed to work with the U-Bolt Kit for Mounting 2,000-lb, Round Trailer Axles part # APUBR-10. The U-bolts are always slightly wider at the mouth than at the bend and they all fit together really well.

  • Type of Metal Spring Seat # TRSS175 is Made Of for Welding
The spring seat part # TRSS175 that you referenced is made of steel like what your axle is made of so it would not be an issue for you to weld at all.

  • Over Under Kit Recommendation for 1-3/4 inch Axles
I wish we had something we could offer you, but none of the spring seats we offer are designed to fit a 1.9 inch diameter axle. The closest we have is the 1.75 inch spring seat like part # TRSS175 which wouldn't work unless you happened to incorrectly measure your axle diameter and you do have 1-3/4 inch axles. The rest of the parts you would need would come in the kit part # APUBR-10.

  • Does Over Under Kit for 1-3/4 inch Axle Require Welding
All you would need for an over-under kit for a 1-3/4 inch round axle would be the U-bolt kit part # APUBR-10 and the spring seat part # TRSS175 that you referenced. You would need two of the spring seats. You will need to weld the spring seats into place.

  • Can New Spring Seat be Installed on Axle if Current Seats Don't Line Up
Yes you can weld new spring seats to your axle so that it matches your trailer frame if you ordered the wrong size. For 1-3/4 inch spring seats you would want the part # TRSS175 that you referenced.

  • Are Axles Available Without The Spring Seats Installed
The axles we offer have the spring seats already installed and they are placed at one of 3 lengths, 48 inches, 58 inches and 74 inches apart. You would have to install new spring seats if you need the distance to be 53 inches. I have attached a link to the spring seats we offer. You will want the spring seats to be welded in place by a qualified welder.

  • Getting Extra Ground Clearance and Height on a Utility Trailer
Since there isn't an over/under conversion kit for the 1-3/4 inch diameter round axles you would need to weld new spring seats, such as # TRSS175, to the top of the axle so you can mount the springs on top of the axle. If this alone does not provide the height needed then you will need taller hangers to increase the distance even more. The tallest double-eye leaf spring hangers we have are # 115919 which measure 5-7/16 inches from the bottom of the trailer frame to the center of the...

  • How to Make Over-Under Conversion Kit for 2K 1-3/4" Axle on 5x8 Utility Trailer
I'm pretty confident you have a 1-3/4" round tube axle on your Carry On 5x8 trailer. Having a 2" axle is uncommon and is typically only found with square tube axles, which you don't have on your trailer. While there isn't a specific over-under conversion kit for a 1-3/4" axle, you can use 2 of the spring seat # TRSS175 and weld them on either end of your axle, and then use the U-Bolt kit part # APUBR-10 to finish out your own conversion kit! • Is There An Axle Flip Kit for a 2,000 Lb 1-3/4 Inch Diameter Axle
I do have all of the components you will need to flip the axle on your tent trailer but there is not an all inclusive kit per se to do so. However, the kits are pretty basic as all they include are u-bolts, tie plates, and spring seats. For your 1-3/4" diameter axle, I recommend using the U-Bolt Kit part # APUBR-10 with the Spring Seat part # TRSS175 (2). The only difference between these two parts and a kit like the Dexter Trailer Springs Over-Under Conversion Kit is that the spring seats...

The Dexter 2,000 Pound Axle # T20BTR-7258 that you referenced is the closest standard axle beam option we have available to the specs you listed for your existing/old unit and it should work well as a replacement. The slightly longer 72" hub face length is just going to push the hubs a bit further out (1" on each side), which won't affect anything with regards to function but just something you should be aware of. It would also allow you to get wider tires down the road if you ever wanted...

  • Installing Dexter Trailer Axle T20BTR-7258 In Application Where Spring Seats Need to be Opposite
Since you need the spring seat on the opposite side of the trailer axle part # T20BTR-7258 that you referenced you'd need to either have the spring seat that's on it removed and attached on the other side of it or have new ones like the part # TRSS175 welded to the opposite side. The bow in the axle allows it to flatten out once the weight of the trailer is put on it. This is why you can't just flip the axle over.

  • Can the Spring Seats On a Dexter 2,200 Lb Axle Be Moved and Re-Welded
Yes, you can move the spring seats to 53-1/2" apart on the Dexter 2,200 Lb Trailer Axle part # T20BTR-EZ-7258, part # 20440I-EZ-72, or part # 20545I-EZ-72-10. This is pretty common practice as manufactures just place the spring seats in a common spot but the customers can move them as needed. That said, you will likely destroy the old ones getting them off so I also recommend getting the Axle Spring Seat part # TRSS175 (2).

All you have to do to mount the leaf springs to the bottom of trailer axle # 20440I-ST-72 is to weld on new spring seats to the bottom of the axle. This axle has a 1-3/4 inch outer diameter so you would need 2 of spring seat # TRSS175. Welding should be done by a professional welder. Trailer suspension needs about 3 inches of space to travel so if there is not enough space then you would also have to use taller hangers. • Parts Needed to Do an Over-Under Kit on a 1-3/4 inch Trailer Axle
When you use an over under kit like the part # K71-385-00 you end up gaining a lift that measures the diameter of your axle, plus the spring seat, and the thickness of your leaf springs. You will need to measure those items on your trailer to determine the amount of lift you would need. Since we don't have a kit designed to fit a 1-3/4 inch diameter axle, and since you aren't completely sure that is the diameter of your axle you will need to verify this before I can piece you together...

Yes! You can weld the springs seats to a different location on Dexter trailer axle # 20440I-ST-60. But instead of cutting off the ones on the axle and welding them back on I recommend getting new springs seats, # TRSS175 (sold in quantities of 1), and welding them on in the proper position. This will ensure that the springs seats are in good shape.

The springs seats that come with the axle are welded to the bottom. You can't flip the axle over because then the natural bow in the axle would be facing the wrong way, the tires would stick out at the bottoms, and the capacity would be diminished.

I have a solution that will allow you to flip your axle but there is not an all-inclusive kit for your axle size so we will need to piece together one. I assume you have a 1-3/4" diameter axle (1,000 lb - 2,000 lb) so that means you will need the U-Bolt Kit part # APUBR-10 and the Spring Seat part # TRSS175 (2). These u-bolts are 4-1/4" which is the longest we have for this width. However, I would highly doubt that you will require a 6" long u-bolt as most leaf springs are only 3/8" thick....

At the very most the spring seats will have to be cut off and new ones, # TRSS175, welded on by a qualified professional welder for a nominal fee. Another option is an axle-less system, # A20RS545, which is rated for 2,000 pounds and comes with idler hubs. The suspension is built in. You're certainly on the right track, with the exception of the leaf spring U-bolt kit. The # K71-385-00 is meant for a 3500 lb axle, and wouldn't fit your 2000 lb axle correctly. The U-bolts would be too large. If you want to keep the axle mounted under the leaf springs, you'll just need the # APUBR-10 U-bolt kit. If you were wanting to mount the axle beam above the springs which would lower the trailer's ride height by roughly 2 inches, you'd use the same # APUBR-10 bolt kit as well...
