Recommended Trailer Hitch Receiver For 2016 Honda CR-V
Published 07/21/2021 >
Question:
I am going to purchase a trailer hitch in the near future from your company. What is the preferred receiver size that customers order ? I am only using the hitch for a hitch mounted bike rack which will work in either size receiver 1 1/4 or 2 inch. What is the factory OEM Honda hitch receiver size ? I didnt want a large looking hitch below my bumper if I didnt need to. Thank You

Based on the information I was able to find on the factory trailer hitch for your 2016 Honda CR-V, it would have a 1-1/4" receiver.
With that said we typically recommend a 2" trailer hitch receiver as it gives the most accessories. While right now you are only wanting to carry a bike rack of which there are a multitude available for both 2" and 1-1/4" receivers, if you decided in the future you would like to use a cargo trailer, or a ball mount for light duty towing you would be very restricted on which ones will work.
While the 2" receiver is slightly bigger, it is only 3/4" larger so it will not look overly bulky underneath the bumper of your CR-V.
I recommend the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Matte Black Finish - Class III - 2" # e98868 you were looking at as its matte black powder coat finish blends in very nice to the black plastic trim on your vehicle, and its 350lb tongue weight rating is plenty for a bike rack.
If you do not already have a bike rack in mind I recommend taking a look at the Thule Hitching Post Pro 4-Bike Rack # TH934XTR which can accommodate 4 bikes weighing up to 35lbs each, and utilizes hold fast anti-sway cradles to keep your bikes from hitting each other, while the cushion in the cradles keeps the frame of your bikes protected from scratches.
I included videos of the products mentioned for you to take a look at.
