Recommended Class III Trailer Hitch For 2014 Honda CR-V

Question:
Im looking for a hitch for my 2014 Honda CR-V. I find 4 hitches that fit. A Class I, a Class II, and 2 Class III hitches. Please help me understand why a person would buy a Class III hitch for a vehicle that can only tow 150# Im quoting your expert: Michael H. It seems I could never tow anything heavy enough to justify a Class III hitch. Thank you.

Your Honda CR-V has a 1500 lb towing capacity and 150 lb tongue weight capacity. There is really only one scenario I can think of where a class III hitch like the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # e98868 would be required for that tongue weight. That is if you plan to use a certain style of cargo carrier or bike rack. Many of these carriers require a 2 inch hitch, but not all. So if you don't have one, you can significantly lessen your options.
If you will only use your hitch for towing, then you can use a class II hitch, but you will even be limited by ball mount options. I personally prefer choices and wouldn't go with anything less than a Class III hitch if available.
