Rugged, Matte Black Finish

The sturdy steel construction is protected with a matte black finish for added durability. This unique powder coating gives etrailer hitches a carbide-like appearance and a rugged look that sets them apart from traditional glossy hitches. In addition to being rust and corrosion resistant, the tough matte coating hides dirt, scuffs, and dings better than a glossy finish.

Video Transcript for etrailer.com Trailer Hitch Installation - 2011 Toyota Sienna

Speaker 1: Today on our 2011 Toyota Sienna, we're gonna be taking a look at, and showing you how to install, the Etrailer Class Three Custom Fit Trailer Hitch Receiver, part number E98853.So here's what our hitch looks like once we have it installed. Now what's really gonna set this one apart from others on the market is that that cross two is gonna be completely hidden behind the bumper. So all we're gonna see is the receiver tube sticking out. And the big benefit to that is we're not gonna have that section hanging down all the way below the bumper, so we're gonna have better ground clearance, and not have to worry as much about scraping a driveway or speed bumps when we go over them. Now our hitch is gonna give us a two inch by two inch receiver tube opening, so we're gonna have a lot of different options when it comes to accessories we're gonna mount. The way we're gonna mount them is through the hitch pin hole here on the side, and it is gonna accept a standard 5A pin and clip. While these are not included in the kit, you can pick them up here at etrailer.com.Now as far as the safety chain connection points go, it's gonna be a loop style welded to the bottom of the receiver tube, and as you can see, we're gonna have plenty of room to get most sized hooks on or off.

And since that loop style, we're gonna have plenty of room, not have to worry about any kind of interference with our hitch pin.And one of my favorite things is the finish on this hitch. It is gonna have a flat black carbide finish on it, so it's not gonna have that really high gloss. But it is gonna protect the hitch, and help hide scratches and dirt a lot better. As far as weight capacity goes, our hitch is gonna have a 525 pound tongue weight, which is gonna be the maximum downward force at the receiver tube. It's also gonna have a 3,500 pound gross trailer weight reading, which is the amount it can pull, including the trailer and everything we have loaded on it. Now with those numbers in mind, you should always double check your Toyota's owners' manual, and never exceed the manufacturer's recommended weight.

But with the tongue weight being that high, it is gonna be ideal for some of those larger cargo carriers or bike racks all the way up to five bikes.Like to give you a few measurements, and that'll help you when deciding for accessories for your new hitch. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the outermost edge of the bumper, it's gonna be right about three and a half inches. Now that measurement's gonna come in handy whenever you're looking at folding accessories to make sure you have adequate clearance, and it doesn't come in contact with the rear bumper. From the ground to the inside top edge of the receiver tube opening, it's gonna be right about 12 inches. That measurement's gonna come in handy when you're looking for ball mounts to make sure you find the appropriate rise or drop to match up to your trailer, but also at that height, I would recommend a bike rack or a cargo carrier with a raised shank to give us a little bit more ground clearance. So now that we've seen what the hitch looks like and gone over some features, let's show you how to get it installed. To begin our installation, we're gonna come to the back of our Sienna, and we'll come underneath, and we're gonna have this appearance panel that we're gonna have to remove.

We're gonna have a total of five bolts, just like this one right here, going along the back edge. So we'll grab a 10 millimeter socket, and pull those out. Then we're gonna have multiple pushpin fasteners like here, and with these, you're gonna wanna get a flathead screwdriver, and you're gonna wanna pop that center section out. And it'll release the tension, and we can pull the rest of the clip out. Finally, we're gonna have three of these screw-type fasteners. You wanna grab a large Phillips head screwdriver that's gonna be big enough that it'll engage the fastener, and we can unscrew it. Now a lot of times when we go to unscrew this, it'll just start spinning, so if you need to, you can kinda slightly pull down while you're loosening it.

And for now, we're gonna set this panel aside. Now we're gonna have to lower our exhaust. So I went ahead and sprayed some spray lubricant on the rubber hanger here, and we're gonna wanna slide that rubber isolator off the exhaust, we'll have just a little bit more room to move around. Just take a pry bar, and pry against the hanger so we can slide that isolator off. And the exhaust isn't gonna come down very far, but it's gonna give us enough room so that we can get our hitch up to the frame. Now as we come to the bottom of the frame, we're gonna have several plastic plugs. We're gonna need to remove those. The ones that have the notch in it, we can take a flathead screwdriver. We're just gonna loosely unscrew them, and then we can pull them out. Now the one towards the front, there's just gonna be a flat plug. You're just gonna wanna take that flathead screwdriver and pry the plug out. We're gonna wanna remove all the plugs on both sides of the frame. Now underneath those plugs, we're gonna have some weld nuts that are inside of the frame. You wanna make sure that those are nice and clean, and there's no dirt, debris, or rust. So I'm gonna spray a little spray lubricant inside there, and then take a nylon tube brush and clean each one of them out. Once you have them cleaned out, it's not a bad idea to grab one of your M12 bolts, and make sure that you can easily thread it in by hand. While we're here, we can go over the mounting locations and hardware we're gonna use. In each one of the weld nuts on both sides of the frame, it's gonna get an M12 bolt, and we'll follow that up with a conical tooth washer, and you wanna make sure that the teeth are facing up. It'll go through the hitch, and into the frame. Now we found an easy way to get our hitch in place without fully removing the fascia. If we look on the bottom, we're gonna have these metal tabs that have a stud coming through. That's really about the only thing that's gonna prevent our hitch from coming up behind the bumper. So if we, very carefully, just bend these down, it'll give us a little bit more room, and also we can always kinda flex on the fascia a little bit to get the hitch in place. You just wanna be careful when you're bending these, you don't wanna bend them too much or too fast, because we don't wanna break them off. We'll bend them out of the way so we have just enough room to get our hitch in place. Now with an extra set of hands we're gonna lift our hitch over the exhaust, and you will need to kinda slightly pull out on the fascia tabs as we're lifting up to go around the hitch, and we can lift our hitch up, and line it up with the holes in the frame. Once the hitch is lined up, we'll take our volt and conical tooth washer, and we're gonna get one secure on each side so the hitch'll support itself. With the hitch supported, we can put in the rest of our hardware. We'll come back with a 19 millimeter socket. We're gonna snug up all of our hardware. We're gonna come back, and we're gonna torque all of our hardware down to the specified amount in the instructions. You wanna make sure you repeat that for all the remaining hardware. With our hitch in place, we can put the exhaust back up. We'll go 'head and take those tabs, we're gonna bend them straight so they're coming out flat again. Now we're gonna have to trim our underbody panel here so that we can fit it back in place. I already went ahead and marked out the area that needs to be trimmed, and we'll find a diagram in our instructions. I wanna come back with a razor knife. I'm just gonna score the plastic a few times, going over it a couple times. And once I have a nice, clean line, I can push a little bit harder, and cut all the way through. Now it's a good idea to go 'head and test fit the panel and make sure that everything fits properly, and we can always trim more if need be.So we'll lift our panel up. It's gonna get everything kinda loosely in place. Wanna line up the studs with those screw fasteners, and we can actually just push those back on, we don't have to screw them back into place. That'll help hold the panel up as well. And now we can put all the fasteners back in that we took out earlier. If the white section came out of the pushpin fastener that's okay, we'll just push the black part in, and we'll take the center section, line it up, push it in, and it'll lock it down. That'll finish up your look at the Etrailer Class Three Custom Fit Trailer Hitch Receiver, part number E98853 on our 2011 Toyota Sienna.

2016 Toyota Sienna

This hitch was for a 2016 Toyota Sienna. It was delivered quickly with all the needed parts. The one issue I had was that the holes did not line up (see picture). I had all the bolts I could get in loose and had to use a crowbar to line up the remaining holes while my son installed the bolts. Not sure if this was an issue with my van or the hitch. Neither of them seemed to be damaged in any way. It is possible to cut a smaller rectangle than recommended out of your plastic undergaurd and slip it around the hitch. You really need to hold your tabs in place while bending them down or the glue will crack. 643857

The hitch looks good and was not that difficult to install. The biggest obstacle was removing the plastic part . I did not need to remove the muffler hanger, just moved down and then slid the piece in place. This job is best done with 2 people. The videos were helpful My only complaint is the template for the cutout needs to be better. It needs better dimensions drawn showing exactly where to cut. I understood the 4 inch width, but the 7 inch dimension was a bit confusing 608649

The instructions that accompanied this hitch indicates it is made by Curt and rebranded by etrailer. It looks similar to the Curt C13343 sold by etrailer except it has a matte finish instead of the gloss black finish of the Curt branded unit. I chose this unit for my 2018 Toyota Sienna L instead of the Draw-Tite 76112 because it is billed as having one additional inch of clearance, and because the hardware looked a bit higher quality. It took me 2 hours working alone to install it. The installation was straightforward, and the holes lined up perfectly with the weldnuts on the frame. The only problem was that three of the screws that attach the underbody panel to the rear fascia rub directly against the bottom of the hitch. I used a grinder to remove the tips of those screws so they won't scratch the hitch paint, and I'm going to inspect them periodically to make sure they haven't popped out. Overall, I am pleased with this purchase. So why only three stars? This hitch is marketed as having a tongue weight capacity of 525 lbs, but take a look at the attached photo - the tag on the hitch says the maximum tongue weight is only 325 lbs. Now, I'm OK with this since I'm going to be pulling a boat with a tongue weight of 250 lbs, but if I had bought this to haul a 500 lb bike carrier, I would have been very disappointed. I do have a few suggestions for those planning to install this unit: The video tutorial was very helpful, although it was for the 2011 model, which has a slightly different underbody panel. Look at the photos on the web site, which show the new version of the panel. Be sure you have a good torque wrench, as the instructions call for torquing the bolts to a substantial 86 ft-lbs. You're also going to need a 19 mm (or 3/4 inch) socket for those bolts. 591320

This hitch receiver was a perfect fit and installation was not difficult. The included instructions were thorough and easy to follow. I like the matte finish, although of course there isn't much of the receiver visible once installed. I did remove the tailpipe from the hanger as per instructions, but did not remove the bumper fascia. There are two metal tabs protruding from the trunk well which I bent down at roughly 45 degrees; between that and the flexibility of the plastic tabs on the fascia, I worked the hitch receiver into place no problem. Be gentle with the metal tabs and bend them slowly. Planning to pull a small pop-up RV trailer on camping trips, and likely a multipurpose utility trailer in the future. 545280

2018 Toyota Sienna

Just finished installing the hitch on my 2018 Sienna. The directions were very clear and the hitch looks great. I did remove the rear facia, which was the scariest part of the install, because I didn’t want to bend the metals tabs that connect to the bottom molding. Work through it slowly and all should go well. 588509

Easy to install. Didn't take off the bumper(2016 Sienna) like one person mentioned, just bent the metal tabs and jiggled it into place. Pulled the exhaust pipe to the side a bit. Took about 30 minutes. Looks great to only have the square metal piece visible rather than the metal tube hanging below the bumper. 574413

The product fit my 2018 Toyota Sienna LE 8-passenger “without a hitch” (as purchased). I used the provided hardware to run the vehicle’s frame-mounted threaded inserts prior to installation. All OK. I needed to enlist a buddy to hold up his end while I started one of the three bolts on each side. I applied Loctite (Reg Trademark) 243 to bolt threads before installation. Loctite 242 is common in “big-box” stores, but Loctite 243 is tolerant of trace amounts of oily residue found on newly manufactured hardware. Loctite 242 works best if mating surfaces are cleaned and primed with Loctite products. Do NOT cut the black plastic “beauty cover” trim piece panel until you put it, uncut, under the installed hitch using two of the threaded push-on fasteners, and mark the exact location. Remove the trim panel and cut small. Then reinstall and trim to clear the edges. A little bit at a time. The cutting diagram in the provided instructions from etrailer did NOT have the same openings and dimples found on the 2018 trim panel, so the measurements shown on the instruction sheet referenced a point that did not exist on the real-world part. Once installation is done, the hitch beam is hidden, the receiver opening is accessible, and the trim panel fits as Toyota intended. The hitch cross-beam is in hard-contact with the (4) tabs on the rear fascia cover piece where the (4) screws secure the black trim panel to the rear bumper fascia cover. There are white nylon snap-in inserts in the bumper fascia tabs that the screws thread up into. The hitch cross-beam pushes on the top of these nylon inserts and pops them out of the bumper fascia tabs. I drilled two 1/4-inch holes in the bottom of the hitch cross-beam in line with the outer two bumper fascia tab holes. I then filled the opening and a bit of the top of the inner side of the hitch cross beam with clear silicon sealer so that 1) the screws had clearance above the bumper fascia tabs to thread in and expand the white nylon inserts for retention, and 2) seal the bare metal exposed by drilling to prevent water contact and corrosion. The inner two bumper fascia tabs had enough clearance to avoid interference with the screws. So far, so good! 666176

Just installed it so I don’t have the frame of reference as a user yet. Installed exactly as video showed (2012 Sienna). I had problems removing muffler hanger so I just worked around it. Unless you can pop that off easily, save the time and wiggle hitch in place around the tailpipe. I had help for 3 min from a guy that held the driver side in place while I positioned the passenger side. Fit and finish look great, holes lined up, bolts went in well. As long as it doesn’t fall off the frame (no reason it should), it’s a well earned 5 stars. Only hitch I found that is truly hidden. Worth the extra $ and installation time to not have that bar visible across the back of the van. 662837

I was especially pleased at how promptly the order was serviced and delivered. It was helpful as my first use date was impending. With lots of help from the videos and a little from a car jack to support the hitch, the project came off without a hitch- rather with a hitch. Bikes fit great and travel to Florida secured with the help of the hitch, rake and cross braces. Thanks much!!!! 658286

Easy to install it look Perfect on the car but the PIN HOLE Doesn't align. I try a couple of receiver. It work on a longer insert receiver and the 2'' receiver is too loose it making sound so I take away one star. Thanks 658142

Great hitch, pretty easy install in 1.5 hrs with a friend and the installation video was super helpful. Instructions call for a larger cutout in the bottom trim panel than necessary, suggest to hold up the bottom panel thing and cut in place. Be sure to use a torque wrench or you will certainly not tighten the bolts adequately. Did not have to lower the muffler (couldn't get it off the support things), but did have to bend the two support brackets for the bottom trim panel out of the way, careful with them, they are pretty fragile. 656252

Item was shipped in a very rapid time frame. This was not the originally ordered item. I have to say that the customer service is bar none some of the best around. I got word my original order was on backorder and was made aware of this project. I’m glad I considered this hitch. Installation was a breeze. Having access to a lift and the right tools handy certainly helps! This took about an hour from start to finish with cutting of plastic under shield. Very neatly tucked under rear bumper with a very clean look when complete. Hitch will. We used for bike transport and possibly small camper. 655738

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch for 2019 Toyota Sienna for Ground Clearance
  • The trailer hitch I recommend for your 2019 Toyota Sienna is the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch # 76112 because if you plan on towing, this hitch is rated for weight distribution and the similar hitches are not. When we test fit the Draw-Tite Hitch # 76112, Curt Hitch # C13343, etrailer.com Hitch # E98853 and EcoHitch # 306-X7255 on a 2019 Toyota Sienna we found that each of them have 13 inches of ground clearance, and with the exception of the EcoHitch, have a 525 lb tongue weight capacity...

  • Actually the Draw-Tite # 76112, Curt # C13343, etrailer # e98853, and EcoHitch # 306-X7255 all install so that only the receiver is showing. A lot of people like this look instead of having a thick piece of steel underneath their vehicle as well. You are correct in choosing a Class III trailer hitch with a 2" receiver over a Class II trailer hitch with a 1-1/4" receiver. The reason being that they are stronger and they are compatible with many more accessories. For your application I...
