Double-Duty Corrosion Resistance

A close-up view of the etrailer ball mount inserted in the hitch receiver

Most ball mounts have just 1 layer of paint or powder coat to protect them from the outside world. Scratch this away after towing just a couple times, and the raw metal underneath will start to rust before you know it. Some folks take pride in that rusty, worn-in look. After all, rust is proof that you've had plenty of road-worn adventures.

But we prefer something that works hard and looks like it's barely broken a sweat. That's why we added a layer of e-coat underneath the matte black powder coat to give you an extra layer of rust protection. So while others might be driving around with a flaking, rusted-out hitch, yours will be looking great for the long haul.

Quick Tip: As for the hitch ball itself, if you really want to make sure that black nickel stays looking fresh for longer, we suggest greasing it up before you tow.

Video Transcript for Review of etrailer Pre Torqued Ball Mount - e38nr

Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a look at the etrailer pre-torque ball mount for a 2" hitch receiver. Has a 2" diameter ball and it offers a 2 3/4 inch rise or a 4" drop. Has a 7,500 pound gross towing weight capacity. Now ,this heavy duty ball mount here will provide everything you need to embark on your towing journey with confidence. The ball mount will let you hook up your trailer or your tow vehicle.

Basically the shank right here is what it'll slide into your two inch hitch receiver. And as we mentioned, this ball mount will offer you a 2 3/4 inch rise in this position. If you flip it over, it'll offer a 4" drop. You do have to change the ball around and as rises and drops are measured from the top of the shank to the top of the ball platform. So right now in the rise position, you can see if we put a rule on it, there's your 2/34 inch measurement.

If we flip it over, we measure from top of the ball platform, top of the shank, that's gonna give you your 4" drop. Now, the ball on this, it is a 2" diameter hitch ball, provides the connection point for your trailer's coupler. If you notice the ball is pre-torque, it's installed already and it is pre-torque to factory specs in the rise position. If you do change it around to the drop position, you do need to loosen it and re-torque it. They do include a 5/8" diameter pin and clip and it's designed to fit tightly into the hitch bid hole to help minimize any rattle.

This is a sturdy steel, has a nice rust resistant finish on it. If you look at the ball mount itself, it is a Matt Black powder coat over an e-coat on the ball mount and the hitch ball sort of unique. It's a black nickel-plated hitch ball and they even offer the pin and the clip that comes with it in also the matching black nickel finish. Application again, this fits a 2" by 2" trailer hitch receiver, gross towing weight capacity of 7,500 pounds. Tongue weight capacity of 750 pounds.

Again, ball diameter, which is stamped on the top here, 2" diameter. And the last measurement I want to give you is the ball mount length and the length will always be measured from the center of this hitch pin hole to the center of the ball mount hole. So if we go ahead and put this on the center of the hitch pin hole to the center of the ball hole, it's gonna get you right at 8" for a length. But that should do it for the review on the etrailer pre-torque ball mount for the two inch hitch receiver with the two inch diameter ball.

  • How To Determine How Much Rise Or Drop I Need For A Ball Mount?
Hey Darrell, thanks for reaching out. The amount of rise or drop for the ball mount will depend on two things. The height of the hitch on your truck, and the height of the coupler on your trailer. We want the trailer to be level when you are towing, or as close to level as possible. What you can do is park your truck on level ground, and measure from the upper inside edge of your hitch receiver to the ground. Then you can, with the trailer leveled, measure from the center of the ball...
