Question:
I’m looking to equip my 2014 Toyota sienna LE with a hitch. I don’t know what’s required or if it’s possible. Reading up it seems possible but I’m confused about what I need and if I need a “WDH” system. Any help you could offer would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hello Alex, thanks for reaching out. It is absolutely possible to put a trailer hitch on your 2014 Toyota Sienna LE. I actually used to have a 2013 Sienna XLE with a hitch on it and it worked out great. What I recommend for your is the etrailer Class 3 Hitch # e98837. I prefer this hitch over others because the matte black coating is more durable and gives it a cleaner, more factory look. This hitch is also rated for use with a weight distribution hitch or WDH. The hitch will come with all of the necessary hardware for installation. Install is easy, and you will find our install video linked below.
As far as a WDH, it is hard to say at this point if you will need one or not. It really depends on how much weight you will be towing. A WDH is not a requirement for towing, but instead an add on that can help level your ride and prevent sway. Our Sienna XLE did a great job supporting weight in the rear and sagging was not really an issue, even with the van loaded very full of gear (and kids). If it were me, I would install the hitch and take your trailer out for a test drive. If you are happy with the ride quality, then great. If you find the back of the van is sagging, or the ride quality is bad, adding a WDH can help with this.
If you want to look at WDH options, just let me know the GVWR of your trailer and I am happy to make a recommendation.

Hey Alex, how did things go with the Class 3 hitch on your Sienna? Did the ride feel balanced enough without adding a weight distribution hitch? Your feedback could really help others setting up a similar van and trailer combo.
