Rugged, Matte Black Finish

The sturdy steel construction is protected with a matte black finish for added durability. This unique powder coating gives etrailer hitches a carbide-like appearance and a rugged look that sets them apart from traditional glossy hitches. In addition to being rust and corrosion resistant, the tough matte coating hides dirt, scuffs, and dings better than a glossy finish.

Video Transcript for etrailer.com Trailer Hitch Installation - 2019 Honda CR-V

Today on our 2019 Honda CRV, we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install the etrailer Class 3 Custom Fit Trailer Hitch Receiver. So here's what our etrailer hitch is going to look like once we have it installed. Now, you can see the cross tube is going to be completely hidden behind the bumper and all we're going to see is that receiver tube sticking out. There are some really big benefits to having the cross tube hidden behind the bumper. Not only is it going to give it more of a factory look and have just a really streamlined look to it, but it's also going to help out with ground clearance because we're not going to have this cross tube spanning all the way across the bottom of our CRV, so we will have a little bit better ground clearance. Now the hitch is going to give us that two-inch by two-inch receiver tube opening, so we'll have a really wide variety of options for all the things we want to mount up.The way we're going to mount any of our accessories is through the hitch pin hole here on the side.

The hitch is going to accept a standard 5/8" pin and clip. Now, these are not included with the hitch but you can pick them up here at etrailer.com, along with some locking devices to keep your accessories secure. And our safety chain connection points are going to be a loop style welded to the bottom of the receiver tube, and as you can see we got plenty of room to get most size hooks on or off. And since our hitch pin hole is slightly offset towards the front of our CRV, we're not going to have to worry about too much interference when it comes to hooking our chains up or taking our pin and clip out.Our hitch is going to handle a 525 pound tongue weight, which is the maximum downward force to the end of the receiver tube here, along with a 3,500 pound gross trailer rating. That's the amount it can pull, including the trailer and everything we have loaded on it.

Now you do want to double check your CRV's owner's manual because you don't want to exceed the manufacturer's recommended weight. I'd like to give you a few measurements and that's going to help you whenever you're looking for accessories for your new hitch, like a ball mount, a bike rack, or even a cargo carrier. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the outermost edge of the bumper is right about three inches. The measurement is going to come in handy when you're looking at folding your accessories to make sure you have enough room and that they're not going to come in contact with the rear bumper. From the ground to the inside top edge of the receiver tube opening is going to be right about 14-1/4".That measurement is going to help you when you're looking for a ball mount, so you can find the appropriate riser drop to match up to your trailer.

At that height, I would also recommend a bike rack or a cargo carrier that has a raised shank, that way we can get a little bit more ground clearance out of it. So now that we've seen what our hitch looks like and gone over some of the features, let's show you how to get it installed. To begin our installation, we need to lower our exhaust down. Before we do, I want to put out a support strap, that way it doesn't hang down too far and cause any damage. So I'm gonna go pretty far forward and find a nice solid connection point and put it underneath the exhaust so that when it comes down the strap will support it. So we're going to have a total of three rubber isolators that we're going to have to remove.

There'll be one on the end of each muffler, like we have here. And then if we follow our exhaust towards the front, we're going to have another one that's going to be right by the rear axle. Now to help us slide those rubber isolators off, I'm gonna take a little bit of spray lubricant. I'm going to spray down the hanger and the isolator. Then we're going to take a pry bar and pry that rubber isolator off the hanger and we'll go ahead and repeat that for the other two isolators at the back of our mufflers. Now if we come to the very back of our fascia, right underneath it we're going to have some fasteners that are holding it to the underbody panel here. Now ours only has one on each end, but yours may have a total of five. Either way, we're going to need to remove all the fasteners along the center here. I'm going to take a trim panel tool. I'm going to come to the center section and pop out the center of that pushpin, and then come underneath the base and pull the rest of it out. And we'll repeat that for however many pushpins we have left on the bottom here. Now I went ahead and marked out the area that we're going to need to trim on the bottom of our fascia. You will find the measurements in your instructions and it's a good idea to turn a little bit smaller cause we can always come back and take more material off, but we can't make the hole smaller. Now it's a good idea to go ahead and take your hand and reach underneath and make sure that when we started to cut, there's not going to be any wires or anything else that may get damaged behind there. I'm going to use a rotary tool, so I have nice clean cuts, but again, you just want to take your time and cut out the hole. With the notch made in the fascia, we can come back and we'll just trim this underbody panel here so we actually have that hole. Now we'll move to our frame rail so we can get the rest of our hardware in place. We'll have two large holes and two smaller holes on the bottom of each one of our frame rails. The two smaller holes are going to be our mounting locations. So in order to get the hardware in place, we're going to take my pull wire with the coiled end and put a slight bend in it, and I'll start at the hole that's furthest towards the front. Push my pull wire in, then I want to feed it back until I can get access and get it to come out the large hole towards the back of my CRV. We're going to take a square hole spacer block. We'll slide it over the wire. Push it into the frame, then we'll grab one of the short 7/16" carriage bolts and we'll thread it onto the end of the wire, and push that into the frame as well. Then we're going to pull on the pull wire until we can get our bolt to drop through, coming down straight. Now we're going to repeat that for the remaining hole here and both on the other side of the frame rail. Now with an extra set of hands we're going to lift our hitch up. We're going to feed our pull wires into the corresponding holes on the side plates. And then once we get it to about the center section, when need to really lift it up, we're gonna have to pull out on the fascia a little bit so we can sneak the cross tube behind it. Going to pull that out there. Now, once we have the hitch up, pull our bolts back through, making sure everything lines up. We're going to remove the pull wire, and we're going to secure it down using a flange nut. And you want to make sure you get at least one on each side so the hitch will hold itself up. Then we can work on getting the rest of the hardware in place. Now if we come to the center of our hitch, we'll have a square hole right behind the receiver tube. It's going to line up with our factory recovery hook. So you want to grab the large carriage bolt out of our kit, and coming from the driver's side, we'll pass it through the hitch and through the recovery hook. Take our round hole spacer block, slide it over and then secure it down with a 1/2" flange nut. For the 1/2" flange nut here, I'm going to be using a 3/4" socket to tighten it up.Then for our side mounting points I'm going to be using an 11/16" socket. I'm going to come back with a torque wrench. I'm going to torque all my hardware down to the specified amount in the instructions. You want to make sure you go back and repeat that for all your remaining hardwareSo we can go ahead and replace our pushpins. And when you put these in, you want to make sure you push the base in first and then push the center in and it'll lock it down. Go ahead and put our exhaust up as well. Usually it helps to spray a little bit more lubricant on the isolator and the hanger itself, that way it just slides on a little bit easier. And with the exhaust back up, we can remove the strap and that'll finish up our installation. That'll finish up your look at the etrailer Class 3 Custom Fit Trailer Hitch Receiver on our 2019 Honda CRV.

Great Hitch. Install video was the clincher for me. Precise instructions for installation and a terrific price. Even tho my jack failed on me half way through the installation I got it done without a glitch. The quality is superb and it looks great. Shipping was lightning quick and it was packaged very strongly to prevent damage and scratching. Saved myself about $500 bucks compared to what the Honda dealer was asking for hitch with install. 643120

Installed this etrailer hitch on my 2018 CR-V EX-L. The install was easy. The finish looks great. Would have given it five stars but I’m picky on how the receiver shows. Wish it was tucked back and up a little more thus hiding it or making it look part of the bumper more. Have used it for a bike rack and worked great. 619749

Website is super informative and easy to navigate, the phone support is awesome, shipping is speedy, and product is top quality. Video instructions were a huge help. Not a difficult project at all but DEFINITELY spray the exhaust hangers with lube. I didn't at first and made a lot of unnecessary work for myself. Hitch looks great and is very well built. 613960

Had to wait item was out of stock, was offered other type by phone. But waited the extra week. Item came sooner and was emailed when item was shipped. Box came UPS as stated 2 days early, opened all parts were there and item looks great. Hope to install it this weekend. Great job getting the one I wanted to me. 634281

Product was received in perfect condition and installation went without a problem. Nice fit. The only concern is that the rating label is hidden behind the bumper cover where it will never be seen, even crawling under. This car is going to Austria next month where the vehicle inspection authorities are very strict about aftermarket products on vehicles. It must have a manufacturer’s rating label visible. I will be contacting etrailer to resolve that. Seems like the rating should be visible on any installation. 642895

Hitch was a perfect fit. The video shows two men installing it but I did it myself in about 2 hours and I’m 67 years old. At one point I didn’t think the bolt hold would line up. Once positioned correctly the bolts were a perfect fit. 616178

The hitch was shipped in a timely manner. With the help of a friend (and some car ramps to save our backs), it was installed in about 1.5 hours. It would have taken less time; however, the dual exhaust on the CRV/EXL created a tight situation. I have two suggestions based on our experience: 1) spray the rubber exhaust mounts quite well, and be careful when prying them off of the exhaust hangers. We apparently pushed the center core of the rubber hangers too far up, and it was very difficult moving them back into position; 2) when cutting the plastic bumper, allow an extra 1/4-1/2" on all sides of the cut out. The video says to allow for a cut 3" x 3", but we found that it was not quite enough. Cutting extra does not affect the cosmetics, so don't worry. Basically, this hitch + installation is a feat of engineering genius. It fit perfectly and is working flawlessly. Many thanks. 536440

Hitch delivered yesterday as scheduled and I finished installation this morning. The video installation instructions at etrailer extremely helpful . My CRV has only one muffler, so it was that much easier. I went ahead and pretrimmed the under body panel and that I think also made the installation easier. Didn’t have a hoist, so I blocked up the rear about 4 1/2 inches and that was enough. Even had my wife helped me slip the hitch in place and hold it while I fastened the nuts without yelling at each other. Be careful when remounting the rear muffler hanger as there are some sharp edges. Probably took me more than an hour, but that included gathering tools and blocking up the vehicle. 604707

Hitch appeared well made and nicely finished. The hitch mounting holes aligned perfectly on my 2018 CRV frame. Online instructions were excellent. One minor issue I had was that the fish wire springs were somewhat difficult to remove from the bolts. I would have just put them on with a couple turns if I had to do it over. I also would have removed the central exhaust hanger to lower the exhaust a bit more as working room is tight. The hitch allows me to mount a bike rack which I mounted immediately and it fits great. 536439

This hitch is working well and shows no sign of rust one year later.

I have put excellent because this trailer hitch came promptly on the day they said it would arrive. I have not attached it yet, but it looks sturdy, simple to install and should be just the hitch I need. 565117

Just installed this hitch (very cautiously, by myself) in about 3 hours total including time spent locating video of a similar hitch being installed (similar hitch sold by etrailer). The install was pretty easy and the next one would be much faster--maybe 30 minutes now that I know what I'm doing. I was disappointed that etrailer emailed me a week after I ordered this hitch to say it wasn't in stock (why didn't the website reflect that when I ordered it?) and I then when they shipped the hitch they emailed they no longer had the wiring harness in stock, so still waiting for that. So bottom line, great product at a great price--just not when I expected it. I give the hitch 5 stars and the website/service 3 stars, giving credit for the install pictures and online videos which are very helpful. 596447

etrailer is great, fast shipping, perfect fit, great price for the DIY person and the instructional videos show you exactly how to install your hitch. A little hard to do by yourself but I got it done. I wouldn't buy from anyone else. 536446

This is the third time I buy a hitch from etrailer the product quality is very good and no problem on the installation. The provided installation instructions that the technical group, at etrailer, had put together is very good and to follow through. 536433

Super fast shipping from etrailer. Watch the videos they offer and it is a no brainer to install. I put in on at 2018 CRV Lx with one muffler and did need to remove the intermediate exhaust hanger to make room to work above the murffler. Fit up was perfect, took about an hour. 536444

- e98848
by:

The quality is very good. Fit is perfect.Delivery time great. But this time, even if I gave it excellent, the hitch came with two wide scratches on either side of the receiver. They were down to the bare metal. I should have taken pictures, but I didn't. I just covered them up with rust oleum and mounted the hitch. The shipping box did not show any damage. So I guess the hitch was shipped already damaged? 536451

Recently installed this on my 2018 crv and rather than cut the piece that holds the two antennas and control module I removed the antennas and module from its bracket. I drilled a small hole in the hitch and screwed the module to the hitch, I then laid the antennas on the inside facia under the hitch and affixed them with velcro. Everything works great and all parts are fixed to the CRV very firmly. 536455

Good fit. Little trick when installing the bolts to the backer plate. Center punch 2 opposite sides of the square holes to make it deform in to the square. If deformed to much, thread the bolt into the square then tap the square of the bolt into the square hole. Then in stall the guide wires. This will snug the 2 and will prevent them from separating in side the frame. 536449

Excellent product. It took me a couple of hours to install on an 2018 Honda CR-V. As a tip, I'd cut out a bit more from the fascia than the 3" x 3" they recommend. I had to go back and trim some more after I got the receiver in place because it was pushing the fascia out too far for the holes to line up again. 536447

I haven't gotten a chance to actually use the hitch yet, but I share my install experience. This can be installed by one person, but it's a bit tricky. Here's how it goes: I put the CRV up on ramps (back wheels). The instructions say to remove 2 exhaust hangers, third is optional. I highly recommend you remove the third. It will make your life soooo much easier when trying to do the passenger side. I would probably also recommend removing the third hanger FIRST. Either way, you have to push the exhaust up into it's normal position to get the hangers off. As the video shows, a pry bar is in order (gloves too!). The next tricky part is the cutout of the fascia. Instructions say 3x3, but as others have said, it's not enough. You have to do another 1/4 inch or so to the drivers side of the tow hook. The next piece is putting up the hitch, and if you do this by yourself, best thing is to have a jack stand or something similar to hold it up in position on one side, or even in the middle, while doing the other side. Installing the bolts is easy with the provided wire. Next little tip, once the bolts are in, cut about half the length of the wire that is hanging out. This will make it much easier to remove from the bolt without getting caught up with every twist. Beyond that, it was pretty straight forward. Will be using for the first time next week for OCMD vacation. 536452

I was very impressed with the speed of the shipping. The hitch installed right up, just like on the video. I won't be using it to tow,but plan on getting plenty of use with the bike rack. The finished look was very clean also. Great product and value. 536441

The video sure helps explaining the installation process. My son and I installed it in a 2 hours on our 2018 Honda CRV. We drove the rear end up on car ramps and layed on our backs during the installation. You will definitely need to remove the 3rd exhaust hanger. Bolting the hitch on the passenger side of the car was more difficult because of the muffler. Here are 2 tips to make the installation easier:1. raise the hitch and loosely install the bolt/nut on the car's tow hook. this will take the carry the majority of the weight of the hitch.2. before removing the fish wire's...put a small pair of vise grips on the bolt. this will insure the bolt will not get pushed back up into the car's frame while you are trying to thread the nut on.Great looking hitch. I especially like that you only see the receiver tube; and the cross member is not visible! 536454

I ordered the C 13306. My decision making was primarily for the trailer to look good on our 2018 CRV since all I do is use the hitch to carry my bicycle. I would have looked at the other one you suggested if I was interested in towing more weight since the other model had a higher weight limit. The trailer hitch was delivered quickly. We ordered on Monday & received delivery from your company on Friday. All parts for installation were included. We had our mechanic instal for a very minimal amount. We were worried about the kick hatch opening mechanism. There is NOT enough guidance for moving the mechanism that controls the kick auto opening mechanism. It would certainly be appreciated. Otherwise the hitch looks great...what you can see of it & we are very happy we chose it for our 2018 CRV Touring. 536445

  • The biggest difference between the Draw-Tite # 76128, Curt # C13397, and etrailer # e98848 trailer hitches for your 2018 Honda CR-V is that the Draw-Tite has a visible cross tube once installed while the Curt and etrailer have a "hidden" design where only the receiver is visible (see comparison photo). The Curt and etrailer hitches have the exact same design and will install the same way but I recommend going with the etrailer hitch over the Curt option because it has a matte black finish...

  • I can definitely give you some pointers on how to trim the fascia for installing the etrailer.com Trailer Hitch Receiver # E98848 on your 2018 Honda CR-V. If you check out the attached photos you can see that the lower rear fascia needs a 3"x3" square cut out 5/8" from that center hole location. I recommend using a permanent or chalk marker to mark where you need to cut out and then use snips like the Trades Pro Tin Snip # ALL836149 for a clean and accurate cut. Once the cut is completed...

  • 2019 Honda CRV Trailer Hitch and Wiring Recommendation
  • First let's start with the hitch for your 2019 Honda CR-V... for that the etrailer hitch part # E98848 is the way to go as it has a concealed crosstube which means it will be mostly out of plainsight. It's also made in the USA unlike the Draw Tite which also has a visible crosstube which makes it stick out a bit more. See picture. For trailer wiring you'd then want the Tekonsha kit part # 118741 as it installs very easily. The ZCI kit is great but it requires you to test the wiring...

  • Recommended Bike Rack for a 2019 Honda CR-V
  • The options to carry bikes on your 2019 Honda CR-V are the roof (which you said you don't want), a trailer hitch (which you don't currently have), or on the trunk. The trunk mount appears to be your obvious option. Putting a trunk mount rack onto SUVs with a rear hatch can sometimes be tricky; however, the Hollywood Racks Over-the-Top, part # HRF2, is the clear solution. It has a high-rise frame which reaches over the top of the hach and the spoiler. A lot of racks either don't sit...

  • Carrying Two Bikes on a 2018 Honda CR-V
  • You have three options to carry bikes on your 2018 Honda CR-V; roof mount, hatch mount, or add a trailer hitch and use a hitch mount. All of which have their advantages and disadvantages. A roof mounted carrier is nice because the it's completely out of the way when you're not using it. You technically never have to remove the carrier from the roof so there's no need to store it. On the other hand if you don't already have a roof rack to connect the carrier to it can get costly adding...

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for 2019 Honda CR-V
  • For your 2019 Honda CR-V the etrailer.com hitch # E98848 is a confirmed fit and would work well. It has a 2 inch opening and plenty of capacity and also has a concealed crosstube so it's not as visible. For a no-splice trailer wiring kit that fits your vehicle you'd then want the ZCI Kit part # 119250KIT. If you wanted to do some towing you might be interested in etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts; one with a 3/4 inch rise or 2 inch drop and one with a 2-3/4...

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch Receiver for a 2018 Honda CR-V
  • I recommend the etrailer.com hitch receiver, part # E98848, because I like how the receiver tube is all you see under the bumper. The cross tube is completely hidden. It's also less expensive than some of the others available. All of the hitches we carry are going to interfere with the automatic liftgate to some extent. The etrailer hitch I recommend certainly will but there is a sensor relocation kit you can get from Honda to move the liftgate sensor. Another option is the Draw-Tite...

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for 2019 Honda CR-V
  • Best option for a trailer hitch on your 2019 Honda CR-V will be the etrailer hitch part # E98848 because this hitch has the 2 inch hitch size which has better towing capacities and has a concealed crosstube which makes it look nicer and help with ground clearance. This will work great to carry your Saris bike rack and tow a small trailer. The weight of the hitch is on 29 lbs so it won't affect ride quality at all either. For trailer wiring you'll want the part # 118741 because it installs...

  • Does etrailer.com Trailer Hitch # E98848 Require Stabilizing Strap with Cargo Carrier
  • A stabilizer strap is not required when using hitch-mounted accessories like the Curt # C18153 that you mentioned with the etrailer.com Class III Trailer Hitch Receiver # E98848. The etrailer.com Hitch is confirmed to fit your 2017 Honda CR-V and will work great with this particular cargo carrier. I really like the hidden design on this hitch that allows only the 2 inch receiver to be visible on the vehicle. Its 525 pound tongue weight capacity exceeds that of the Curt Cargo Carrier....

  • Best Trailer Hitch for Ground Clearance on a 2018 Honda CR-V
  • We give the measurement from the top of the receiver opening to the ground so customers can find the difference between that and the height of their trailer's coupler. This is how someone chooses a ball mount with the correct rise or drop to tow their trailer level. The measurement you're looking for, from the ground to the bottom of the receiver, is also relevant and can be found by subtracting 2 inches from the measurement we take. Since the receiver is a 2 inch by 2 inch opening...

  • Trailer Hitch and Wiring Recommendation for 2018 Honda CR-V
  • For your 2018 Honda CR-V the trailer hitch I recommend is the etrailer.com hitch part # e98848 because it is a 2 inch hitch with plenty of towing capacity, is priced great, and because only the hitch opening is visible underneath the rear of your vehicle so it's the easiest on the eyes. Then for trailer wiring our most reliable and best option is the T-One kit part # 118741 which I attached an install video for as well. Since you wanted to do some towing you might be interested in...

  • Parts Needed to Tow Trailer with 2018 Honda CR-V
  • First thing you'll need to tow a trailer with your 2018 Honda CR-V is a trailer hitch. For that the etrailer hitch part # E98848 is the best option. It's a USA made hitch with a 2 inch opening, plenty of capacity, and only the hitch tube is visible so it's mostly out of plain sight. Next for trailer wiring I recommend the Tekonsha kit # 118741 which is very easy to install and comes with a very reliable converter box. Since you plan on doing some towing you might be interested in...

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch and Bike Rack to Carry 4 Bikes with a 2018 Honda CR-V
  • Unless you have the Touring model of the 2018 Honda CR-V I recommend using the etrailer.com Trailer Hitch # e98848 because it has the 2" receiver needed for carrying 4 bikes and it gives you a really clean-looking installation. If you do have the Touring with the Hands-Free Liftgate then you will want to use the Draw-Tite # 76128 instead as it is the only 2" trailer hitch that doesn't get in the way of the sensors. Then for a bike rack I recommend the Yakima FullSwing # Y02465 because...

  • Choosing Between 1-1/4 Inch or 2 Inch Trailer Hitch for 2018 Honda CR-V
  • For your 2018 Honda CR-V I definitely recommend going with a 2 inch hitch receiver, specifically the etrailer.com Class III Trailer Hitch # E98848 because of its concealed design and the fact that it is made right here in the USA. The primary difference between a 1-1/4 inch receiver and a 2 inch receiver is their weight capacities and Class ratings. A 2 inch receiver will have higher towing and tongue weight capacities than a smaller 1-1/4 inch model. The reason that I recommend going...

  • Trailer Hitch, Wiring and Ball Mount Recommendation for 2018 Honda CR-V
  • For a hitch confirmed as a fit for your 2018 Honda CR-V the etrailer.com hitch # E98848 would be your best option. What I really like about it is that concealed crosstube that makes most of the hitch aside from the opening not visible. It also has great towing capacities as well at 3,500 lb trailer weight and 525 lb tongue weight. For trailer wiring the most reliable option we have is the Tekonsha kit part # 118741 which is a confirmed fit. It's a plug and play option too which means...

  • Weight of etrailer.com Trailer Hitch for Honda CR-V
  • The etrailer.com Trailer Hitch # E98848 weighs 30 lbs; this 2 inch hitch is a fit for certain model year Honda CR-Vs and has a towing capacity of 3,500 lbs with a tongue weight capacity of 350 lbs though make sure to always check your owner's manual to find out the capacity of your CR-V. I have added a photo which shows how this hitch looks when installed on a CR-V so you can get an idea of how this will look when on your Honda. I also recommend checking out Ball Mount Kit # 989900,...
