Trailer Hitch And 5-Flat Wiring For 2025 Honda CR-V EX FWD SUV

Updated 01/05/2026 | Published 09/09/2024

Question:

Hi, I just got a 2025 Honda CRV, EX, FWD suv. I wanted to add a hitch to pull our small tent trailer. Its a Kompact Kamp minimate. Weighs around 300 lbs empty, and around 400-450 lbs full. It comes with a flat 5 plug and if possible, I would like the wiring to be the same. I understand I can also install a 4 pin in the vehicle and plug it to the 5 pin of the trailer. What would you recommend as far as trailer and wiring harness. Thanks in advance, Mike

Hello Mike, thanks for getting in touch. For a hitch for your 2025 Honda CR-V EX FWD I recommend the etrailer Class 3 Hitch # e98848. This hitch has a 3,500 lb towing capacity and 525 lb tongue weight capacity, so plenty for your Kompact Kamp tent trailer.

For the wiring use the Tekonsha T-One # 118741. This has a 4-flat connector. It is possible to plug the 5-flat into this and operate the brake lights on the trailer, but the 4-flat does not have a reverse light function, so you would be missing out on that. If you want to upgrade the vehicles 4-flat to a 5-flat you can use the Curt Trailer Connector Adapter # C57187. You will find links to a few install videos below. Hey Mike, how did the etrailer hitch and Tekonsha wiring work out on your CR‑V with the Kompact Kamp trailer? Did the 5‑flat adapter give you the connection you wanted? Your update could make it easier for others towing small campers with the same setup.

@JesseM The hitch and wiring harness both worked out great. It was a fairly easy install, and has traveled about 7000-8000 miles so far with out a hitch (pun intended). I definitively recommend.
