Great product ! The hitch was scraped up in shipping, but the person I spoke with in customer service was very polite and wanted to help resolve the problem.

by:
2012 MazdaMX-5 Miata

Easy to install (did not have to drop the exhaust).
The draw bar is very tight to the rear valance so I had to cut out more than the 3/4" recommended.
Installing the bike rack bolt is still difficult so I may make some adjustments but the hitch is as high under the body as possible and that makes it a good design.
Very pleased.

I have purchased three hitch receivers from etrailer, they are all superb quality, fit perfectly for installation, and the company communication and service is excellent. I have recommended etrailer to friends, this is THE place to buy!!!!!!!

Great product. I had it installed on a Mazda Miata I had a welding shop attach a Miata hub to a square tube and then weld the tube to a solid draw bar to create a continental kit
to carry a donut spare tire. The Miata did not have a spare tire. Now I have one. Peace of nmind

2010 MazdaMX-5 Miata

Great fit, good instructions and video. I used ramps in the driveway and installed in just a little over 2 hours.

by:

Had it installed, mechanic said no problems , very good instructions and video.

by:

Took extended trip with two heavy tote boxes on hitch rack. Never knew it was there! Good quality with good looks. Easy install.

by:

Had it installed. Installer said there were no problems. Works great so far with my bike hitch rack.

I only use it for my bike rack, but it is still working great after a year.

by:
2013 MazdaMX-5 Miata

The hitch itself is 5 stars. The instructions were lacking a variation for Club model that required a considerable amount of additional trim cutting to access the hitch pin hole and safety chain loop. Also and not a knock to the hitch itself, it did not play well with my aftermarket exhaust. Some longer hangers gave it the necessary clearance, though.

by:

Proved everyone wrong that you can tow a Harley with a Miata.

by:
2011 Mazda Miata

I had a professional install this on my 2011 Miata using the online instructions, he was done in less than a day and for far less than I expected. It is very unobtrusive. You wouldn't know it was there unless I have a rack on it. I have zero complaints. It has been holding strong for a year now, with daily use (one bike) of a Thule rack for 6 months straight. You can see that the installer didn't make quite enough of a hole in the bumper for it to fit into, but I am fine with that, since the bumper seems to sit on top of it without issues.

by:

After a year of occasional use the hitch is working well on my MX-5 2008. The hitch is hidden well and stable enough to carry a set of bikes or hitch carrier with ease on long road trips. Great buy. Still enjoying it. NO rust either, but I admit I mainly keep my car inside my garage. Installation was a bit challenging but after a few hours of playing with adjustments and adjusting holes to bolt in perfectly, it was all worth it. I'm very much a perfectionist when it comes to my MX5 so others may complete the install faster.

I will let you know how it go

2013 Mazda Miata

This was a very tight install on my 2013 Miata MX-5. My neighbor helped me and we did have some difficulty with lining up bolt holes. We did not have the luxury of a lift as your instruction video showed, so it had another degree of difficulty as well. I have used it for my bicycle rack now several times and it is very solid. I do hear a bit of clunking against the muffler when I hit some rough spots in the road. I believe this is unavoidable with the close fit.

by:

In my experience aftermarket parts tend to "almost fit". There always seems to be something that is close, but not quite right...something that needs to be bent or filed or cut to get the part to fit. Not so with this hitch; it's a perfect fit, and the quality and finish of the part are excellent.

At first glance, the instructions are not clear, but then you realize that there isn't a lot of detail because the installation is very simple. The only "issue" run into was that they suggested dropping the muffler out of the hangers to allow more working room. This wasn't necessary, and I ended up putting the hangers back because the muffler was in the way of the brackets.

The only think I wished the kit included were plastic plugs to replace the factor plugs that were removed (you need to elongate the holes so the factory plugs won't go back in). I found some body plugs from an Audi that worked perfectly.

2006 MazdaMX-5 Miata

Good design, but the workmanship is unacceptable - welding, too much beads at two holes, and the alignment was off. Please get your stuff together, and make America proud!

I apologize for the welds. Sometimes powder coating can cake in corners and edges and may need filed. The alignment is caused by flex in receivers that can be realigned by bending with a vice or open step. Here are some other tips:

  • Estimated Time for a Professional to Install a Trailer Hitch and Wiring on a 2006 Mazda Miata
Curt suggests that the professional install time for hitch # C11028 on a 2006 Mazda Miata is 90 minutes. The wiring harness, # 56082, should install in half that time at most since it just plugs in line with the vehicle tail light wiring and does not require a power wire from the battery. So beginning to end I would estimate 2 to 3 hours tops. This is based on a professional installation by someone who has installed hitches and wiring harnesses before.

  • What Hitches Does Curt Vertical Drawbar D-55007 Fit
Curt Vertical Drawbar # D-55007 is a specialty ball mount made for a vertical hitch receiver that faces downward rather than sideways as with hitch # C11028. This is the only aftermarket hitch we offer for the 2006 Mazda MX-5 Miata; it is a light-duty 1-1/4-inch Class I type. The Curt ball mount # D-55007 is a Class II ball mount and can only be used in a Class II vertical hitch like C11713, C11746 and C11748. None of these hitches fits your 2006 Miata.

  • Hitch Adapter to Raise Cargo Carrier on 2007 Mazda Miata
There is an adapter you can use to raise your Curt Cargo Carrier # C18145 on your 2007 Mazda Miata though it will reduce the capacity of your Curt Hitch # C11028 by half and require you to use the 2" shank on your cargo carrier. The Brophy # HT5R will give you 5" of rise and has a 2" receiver but since your cargo carrier weighs 29 lbs it would limit you to carrying 71 lbs of cargo with your carrier. I do recommend using Hitch Receiver Lock # 5200 to lock the adapter in your receiver. I've...

Curt recommends using the Ball Mount # C45521 in the rise position with either a 1-7/8" # C40001 or 2" # C40018 ball to match your trailer coupler if you intend to pull a small trailer. You will also need a Hitch Pin & Clip # F-4 to secure the ball mount in the receiver. • Trailer Hitch and Wiring for a 2001 Mazda Miata
Both of the Curt trailer hitches, # C11755V, and # C11749 will fit your 2001 Mazda Miata. I actually recommend # C11755V because it comes with a ball mount and will be more hidden when not in use. For a 1-7/8 inch ball use # 19256 and for a 2 inch ball use # 19258. And for trailer wiring you can use # 119178KIT. Curt trailer hitch # C11028 will not fit a 2001 Miata.

  • Bike Rack Recommendation for a 2011 Mazda Miata
The best bike rack for your hybrid specialized bikes and your 2011 Mazda Miata will likely be a hitch mount bike rack, but this will require your vehicle to have a trailer hitch. Hitch mount bike racks will have zero contact with the vehicle and you have the option of choosing a platform style bike rack that makes it easier to load and carry specialized bikes. The only way to positively confirm what features your 2007 Mazda MX-5 Miata has is to contact your local Mazda dealer with your VIN. If they tell you that you don't have the appearance package then the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C11028 will definitely fit. We recommend taking to a local trusted shop as we don't have anybody that we specifically recommend.
