Hi everyone. It's Evangeline here at etrailer. And today, we'll be taking a look at our Thule replacement tie-down strap with a cam buckle here at etrailer. So, this is a new replacement strap and here on my left hand is our old strap. So, notice how over time, wear and tear has happened. It's definitely discolored.
And while not so much structural damage has happened to it, there are some frays in some areas just where it's rubbed up against some sharp edges. So, you can definitely see why you might be interested in picking up a replacement strap like this if after some time your old strap has worn down, or you lost or you damaged it. So, for dimensions, your strap is going to be one inch thick and for the length is gonna be 172 inches long. So, that's actually going to be about 14 feet and four inches long. So, this is designed for your Thule water sport carriers.
We have it on our kayak carrier right here. So, let's show how to use this with your kayak carrier as we strap down our kayak. So, with different kayak carriers, you have different install processes. But what I usually do is there's an anchor on the back of the kayak carrier, I latch it onto that anchor. Kind of like wrap it around it, then we bring it around the kayak.
And then in our case, we're gonna feed it underneath the crossbar, then cinch it together with our cam buckle. Now, once you have your kayak strapped down, you will usually have excess strap just because of how long the strap is. And it does not come with a kind of excess strap band, so I recommend just using your own rubber band to tie up your excess strap. So, my personal thoughts about our Thule strap here is I do see this working with your Thule water sport carriers. If you want something to match the one that you damage, broke or lost, this is the direct replacement.
So, that's nice to see, especially if you wanna maintain this set. Now, as for the strap itself, it's kind of a thick strap as well as a long strap, which means if you do have items that don't need as much of a tension on them. Also, since this does not have a cam buckle protector as is, you might be worried about damaging your items. I prefer the more elastic straps. I think the etrailer tie-down strap kit is a great kit, especially since the strap itself is a little bit softer and more comfortable but this still works well. This replacement tie-down load strap and buckle secures your canoe or kayak to your roof rack when you are using a Thule roof-mounted watersport carrier.I purchased this strap as a replacement for the Thule strap I had because the quality of the strap is much better than the off the shelf brands. I'm only replacing it because I cut it too short for the kayak I currently have.
Worked out great now we can tie down 2 paddle board and a kayak on top of our Kona EV.
I needed to replace just one tie-down strap for my Thule watersport system but could only find the complete set elsewhere (two straps plus two buckle protectors) for considerably more money. This was exactly what I was looking for and it was priced reasonably.
I purchased these as extra insurance for my kayaks. I have the Thule Stacker and am looking to do two straps per boat, on either side of the Stacker. I don't wanna take any chances!
It's such a great and happy relief that I was able to replace my lost tie down and rubber cover so easily and for a good price too. I highly recommend this seller. Item arrived so quickly I didn't know. Seller gave me the heads up and it made my day to find the package in my mailbox just now.
The Thule straps are rugged and work great to secure kayaks and other loads to my rooftop carrier. An awesome companion is the Thule buckle protector which ensures my car's paint isn't scratched if I inadvertently drop a strap and buckle.
Thule straps are the best (the heavy blue ones). Also picked up the rubber buckle covers with this same order. Everything arrived perfectly. The prices on etrailer for these items were a bargain compared to other sources. I really wanted some additional straps but was pensive as other sources were as much as 3 times the price here.
Work perfect w Thule j racks for kayaks. Super easy to use. I choose the cheapest delievery and it arrived a day early, very timely for the price. But these with confidence.
Replacement strap for my canoe rack. Glad these fail before the rack rips off when the loose strap gets caught under the wheel after launching the canoe. Oops
