Video Transcript for Thule Roof Mounted Watersport Carriers Tie-Down Strap with Buckle Review

Hi everyone. It's Evangeline here at etrailer. And today, we'll be taking a look at our Thule replacement tie-down strap with a cam buckle here at etrailer. So, this is a new replacement strap and here on my left hand is our old strap. So, notice how over time, wear and tear has happened. It's definitely discolored.

And while not so much structural damage has happened to it, there are some frays in some areas just where it's rubbed up against some sharp edges. So, you can definitely see why you might be interested in picking up a replacement strap like this if after some time your old strap has worn down, or you lost or you damaged it. So, for dimensions, your strap is going to be one inch thick and for the length is gonna be 172 inches long. So, that's actually going to be about 14 feet and four inches long. So, this is designed for your Thule water sport carriers.

We have it on our kayak carrier right here. So, let's show how to use this with your kayak carrier as we strap down our kayak. So, with different kayak carriers, you have different install processes. But what I usually do is there's an anchor on the back of the kayak carrier, I latch it onto that anchor. Kind of like wrap it around it, then we bring it around the kayak.

And then in our case, we're gonna feed it underneath the crossbar, then cinch it together with our cam buckle. Now, once you have your kayak strapped down, you will usually have excess strap just because of how long the strap is. And it does not come with a kind of excess strap band, so I recommend just using your own rubber band to tie up your excess strap. So, my personal thoughts about our Thule strap here is I do see this working with your Thule water sport carriers. If you want something to match the one that you damage, broke or lost, this is the direct replacement.

So, that's nice to see, especially if you wanna maintain this set. Now, as for the strap itself, it's kind of a thick strap as well as a long strap, which means if you do have items that don't need as much of a tension on them. Also, since this does not have a cam buckle protector as is, you might be worried about damaging your items. I prefer the more elastic straps. I think the etrailer tie-down strap kit is a great kit, especially since the strap itself is a little bit softer and more comfortable but this still works well. Although, please get the cam buckle protector as well. And that was a look here at our Thule replacement tie-down strap with a cam buckle for your Thule water sport carriers here at etrailer..

I purchased this strap as a replacement for the Thule strap I had because the quality of the strap is much better than the off the shelf brands. I'm only replacing it because I cut it too short for the kayak I currently have.

After one year the strap is holding up nicely.

by:

Worked out great now we can tie down 2 paddle board and a kayak on top of our Kona EV.

by:

I needed to replace just one tie-down strap for my Thule watersport system but could only find the complete set elsewhere (two straps plus two buckle protectors) for considerably more money. This was exactly what I was looking for and it was priced reasonably.

by:

I purchased these as extra insurance for my kayaks. I have the Thule Stacker and am looking to do two straps per boat, on either side of the Stacker. I don't wanna take any chances!

by:

It's such a great and happy relief that I was able to replace my lost tie down and rubber cover so easily and for a good price too. I highly recommend this seller. Item arrived so quickly I didn't know. Seller gave me the heads up and it made my day to find the package in my mailbox just now.

by:

The Thule straps are rugged and work great to secure kayaks and other loads to my rooftop carrier. An awesome companion is the Thule buckle protector which ensures my car's paint isn't scratched if I inadvertently drop a strap and buckle.

by:

Thule straps are the best (the heavy blue ones). Also picked up the rubber buckle covers with this same order. Everything arrived perfectly. The prices on etrailer for these items were a bargain compared to other sources. I really wanted some additional straps but was pensive as other sources were as much as 3 times the price here.

by:

Work perfect w Thule j racks for kayaks. Super easy to use. I choose the cheapest delievery and it arrived a day early, very timely for the price. But these with confidence.

by:

Replacement strap for my canoe rack. Glad these fail before the rack rips off when the loose strap gets caught under the wheel after launching the canoe. Oops

by:

Great straps!! I can tie down my kayak in 5 minutes. Highly recommend!

by:

strong and actually slip into jam clamps unlike others I have used.

by:

Easy to navigate site, found parts quickly, good order interface, nice shipping box. Very satisfied, recommended.

by:

Excellent quality items arrived quickly and just as expected. Thank you as always for another great deal.

  • Best Way to Carry Long Kayak in Back of Short Bed Truck
Since you're already wanting to utilize your truck bed for transporting your kayak I recommend picking up the Flint Hill Goods Truck Bed Extender # FHG89ZR as it allows you to secure and support the end of your kayak that hangs out the back of your truck bed. The uprights will sit 53-1/2" from center of hitch pin hole just to give you a good idea of what to expect with this extender. Just be sure to secure your kayak with a strap like part # 753-2030-02.

  • Kayak Carrier Recommendation For 2015 Toyota RAV4 with Factory Roof Rack
For your 2015 Toyota RAV4 with factory crossbars, I recommend the Yakima JayLow Folding J-Style Kayak Carrier # Y04073. It is fairly normal for elliptical and aero crossbars to be 3 inches wide x 1 inch thick. I spoke with my contact at Yakima about the JayLow fitting your factory, 3 inch wide crossbars. Since the JayLow is designed to fit aero, elliptical, and most factory crossbars, this carrier should work well on your crossbars. You would want 2 sets of these carriers to fit 2 kayaks...

  • Recommended Kayak Carrier For 4 Kayaks On A 2003 Dodge Caravan
The Thule The Stacker - Rooftop Multi-Kayak Carrier # TH830 can hold up to 4 kayaks on your 2003 Dodge Caravan factory bars as long as the weight is within the rack and roof compatibility of the manufacturer's rated system. You will need to add additional straps when using 3 or 4 kayaks. For this I recommend the Replacement Tie-Down Strap with Buckle for Thule Roof Mounted Watersport Carriers # 753-2030-02 and the Thule Quick Draw Tie-Down Ropes w/ Ratchets and Strap Loops - 13' - Qty...

  • Kayak Carrier Recommendation for a 5th Wheel Trailer Roof
I am going to assume that the roof of your 5th wheel trailer does not have any type of roof rack on it. In that case you would need to either add one or use one of the carriers designed for a naked roof. The easiest way to go would be a carrier designed for a naked roof. The Rightline Gear Foam Kayak Block, # RL100K10, is a kit that will fit on a naked roof. With this kit, you would place the blocks on the roof, place the kayak on the blocks, and then the whole thing is held in place with...

  • Original Thule Portage Replacement Parts
The Thule Portage has gone through several redesigns, the most recent being part # TH819. This kit is compatible with all of Thule's old style Square bars and their newer Aero bars. I'd recommend getting these if you don't already have a kit, as they will be the easiest way to add gunwale/portage load stops to your setup. If you have them already, or just want to build the older style, I've included all of the replacement parts below that complete the assembly of the older style Portage....

  • Will Thule The Stacker Fit 2006 Ford Expedition Factory Crossbars And Carry 4 Kayaks
I spoke with my contact at Thule and verified The Thule Stacker, part # TH830 will work with the factory crossbars on your 2006 Ford Expedition. For carrying 4 kayaks you would carry 2 kayaks on each side of the carrier. You would need to stand them on their side. This system comes with a pair of ratcheting tie-downs, 2 straps, and buckle protectors included. To carry 4 kayaks you may need additional tie-downs for the bow and stern like part # 853-5466, and straps like part # 753-2030-02....

  • Does Thule Stacker Kayak Carrier have Weight Limit
Since the Thule The Stacker # TH830 does not carry any weight (the crossbars of the roof rack do) this carrier does not have a weight limit. The only limit this carrier has is based on the length of the kayaks. As long as the boats are 10 feet or less in length like yours this would work well. To carry 2 kayaks you will need additional tie-downs for the bow and stern like part # 853-5466, and straps like part # 753-2030-02.

  • Recommended Roof Kayak Carrier For Square Crossbars
You will need a kayak carrier that will fit square bars, since that's what you have on your SportRack Roof Rack # SR1002. The Thule Top Deck # TH881 is a great single kayak carrier. It secures the kayak on it's haul with rubber padded saddles to protect it. The Top Deck also comes with all the necessary straps and tie-downs you'll need. If you need to carry multiple kayaks the Thule Stacker # TH830 is the way to go. It will hold up to 4 kayaks on your roof rack. It will require additional...

  • Does Carrying 3 Kayaks with Thule Stacker Require Additional Straps
Using the Thule Stacker # TH830 multi-kayak carrier with 3 kayaks will require additional bow/stern ropes and additional straps since the carrier comes equipped with enough for one boat. Each of the 3 kayaks must have its own set of bow/stern tie-down ropes # TH855XT or something similar as well as its own straps to secure it to the Stacker, such as # 753-2030-02, or again, a similar item like # E98876-4.

I do not have an 80-inch crossbar that will work with your Ford Van but I do have a solution that will work for you. I recommend the Inno Roof Rack for your 2010 Ford. You would need the Feet, part # INSD and also the Inno Crossbars, part # IN436L. These square crossbars are 79 inches long and measure 7/8 x 1-1/4 inches. These crossbars have a 220-lb weight capacity. For carrying the canoes I recommend using the Malone Canoe Carrier with Tie-Downs - Foam Block Style - 6" Long # MPG156....

According to Thule, you can have up to 5 small kayaks on the 47 inch load bars that fit on your 2017 Jeep Patriot. For your 4 kayaks I recommend Thule The Stacker - Rooftop Multi-Kayak Carrier # TH830. This will allow you to carry up to 4 kayaks with a max length of 10 feet on your 2017 Jeep Patriot. You will need to get additional load straps # 753-2030-02 and # 853-5466 for each additional kayak. If you want the quick draw with ratchets and strap loops, you will want # TH855XT.

The Stacker # TH830 will fit on your 2008 Nissan Xterra, however the Thule Xadapt3 # THXADAPT3, longer installation bolts, will be needed to fit around the Xterra's factory crossbars. I spoke with my contact at Thule and he confirmed that The Stacker requires the Xadapt3 bolts for your Xterra. This rack has a 250 lb capacity, can be installed behind your tool box and is adjustable in width to accommodate even a wide canoe. Please note that this carrier is not recommended if the kayaks you intend to purchase are longer than 10 feet, and it is not intended for use with ocean style kayaks, which are much wider.
