Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 2015 Dodge Grand Caravan - Draw-Tite

Today on our 2015 Dodge Grand Caravan we'll be installing the Draw-Tite hitch, part number 75579. Here's what our hitch will look like once it's installed. Now from the center of the hitch pinhole to the outermost of the bumper is 4-3/4". From the top of the receiver tube opening to the ground is 12-3/4". This will assist you with selecting accessories such as a ball mount, bike rack, a cargo carrier. We'll now go ahead with the installation. Now to begin our install we're first going to need to go ahead and lower the exhaust.

To lower the exhaust we'll remove the bolts that secure the metal hangers to the body of the vehicle. Here we have one at the tailpipe and one forward of the rear axle. If you're looking for some additional working room above the exhaust you could also remove the bolt that secures the metal hanger to the body here at the front of the muffler. Now with our fasteners out of the way you can see we now have access to both rear frame rails. Now starting here at the rear of the frame rail we'll go ahead and remove the two rear fasteners. Now this application is equipped with a rear air conditioner, and the air conditioner lines are right next to our forward attachment point on the passenger side.

Provided with our install kit is a line protection that we can put over top of the AC line to prevent the AC line from rubbing against the hitch. Feed it into place and set it in position. Here on the driver side we'll have three fasteners that need to be removed. Now with all our hardware out we're ready to install the hitch. We'll put the hitch on top of the exhaust over on the passenger side and bring the driver side up through the frame. We'll reinstall the manufacturer's hardware to secure the hitch.

As we reinstall the fasteners we'll just put them in finger tight until we have them all in place. Now if the inner tube in the frame shifts over you may need to use a pry bar to slide it back to get your fasteners started. Now once we have all our fasteners installed we'll go ahead and tighten them down. Next we can go ahead and torque to specifications as indicated in the instructions. Now with our hitch installed and our fasteners tightened down and torqued to specifications we'll go ahead and reinstall the exhaust. As you can see, this is our class three 2" receiver tube hitch.

The cross tube here is hidden behind the bumper so it's nice, compact, and out of the way, while the receiver tube will come out enough that it's got easy access to get to our hitch pinhole and mount our accessory. The hitch by itself has a tongue weight of 400 pounds and towing weight of 4,000 pounds. With a weight distribution you could add up to 500 pounds of tongue weight with 5,000 pounds of towing weight. That will do it for the install of our Draw-Tite hitch, part number 75579, on our 2015 Dodge Grand Caravan. .

I love this hitch and it looks very nice. I have a 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan and have installed a few class III hitches over the years. This was by far the easiest yet and the fit and finish are excellent and the supplied instructions were clear and concise. I was worried initially that a big class II hitch would ruin the lines of my van and look like a giant piped monstrosity hanging below my rear bumper. Nothing could be further from the truth…it is totally hidden except for the receiver tube that snugs up under the rear bumper. Instructions recommend trimming rubber bumper around receiver tube but I didn’t and it looks really good. Note that the mounting bolts must be torqued to specs and I was lucky enough to already own a torque wrench. If you don’t, consider renting or purchasing one. Please don’t be foolish and endanger others on the road by skimping on this step. I am very strong but still had to strain against the torque wrench to apply the given torque values in the instructions. 316435

Thanks for reaching out for sure. After a year, the hitch still looks and performs like new....I am particularly happy that there is no rust and the finish is still holding up well. Thanks again for a great product! John Bray Corpus Christi, TX

This product fit very easy. The total install time was about 30 minutes. It could have been faster, but I only had one jack. I have only towed a few times, but it seems to have my issues so far. 564387

Installation went fairly smoothly, mainly because of etrailer's great instructional video (Search YouTube for "etrailer hitch 2013 town and country"). However, if you don't have access to a lift, installation could be much more difficult and time-consuming. I installed the trailer hitch receiver by myself and used wood blocks to lift it into position. Also, mine did not come with instructions (referenced in the YouTube video) which - I'm assuming - would have the torque specifications for the bolts. 130094

I wasn't sure if I can tackle the job - but after watching the instructional video and receiving the hitch - it was a straight forward job as shown - very good hitch and good service from the etrailer folks. I love how it's hidden at this van and from now on, I will always get my hitches from etrailer with that support and service - nice product and please keep it up! 44776

2011 Dodge Grand Caravan

I have been looking for a hitch for awhile now and then I came across your web page. I have seen Draw-Tite hitches on quite a few vehicles. So I went on to do a little research and to read quite a few of the reviews on this hitch here. After reading the reviews and the price of the hitch at that time I decided that I had found the hitch for my 2011 Dodge Grand Caravan Crew. I placed the order and the next day received a message that my order had shipped. The box arrived very quickly after I placed my order which was a pleasant surprise. One side of the box was really tore up and the hitch had come free of the strapping inside the box. The only thing inside the box was the hitch with the tongue/receiver wrapped in plastic wrap and the two pieces of cardboard that had come free. I search the inside of the box for some instructions but did not find any at this point so I would know exactly which bolts to take out. The first thing I did was to jack up the back of my van so I had a little more room to work underneath where the hitch was to go. Then I took off the passenger side rear tire to give me better access to the bolts that had to come out for the hitch and for the exhaust system to be lowered. I then took out the five bolts for the hitch and had to take out the three bolts holding up the exhaust to give me room to install the hitch. Then came the hardest part of the whole process and that was getting the hitch up to a point where I could get a bolt started. I tried using the exhaust system to help me but was still having a problem. So I got a cinder block I had in the garage and put it under one end of the hitch which was a better platform and really helped me getting the other side started. From that point on it went really well getting the other side started and then all five bolts in and tightened down. I then stepped back to see what it looked like and at this time I saw something white deep in the hitch receiver/tongue. When I pulled it out I noticed it was the instruction I had looked for earlier. It would have been nice to have these when I first started. A suggestion would be to put a notice on the plastic wrap that is wrapped around the receiver/tongue of the hitch that states "Instruction Enclosed" or "Packing Slip Enclosed" or just tape them to the inside of the box, not hidden inside a wrapped receiver/tongue of the hitch. I then went back and torqued the five bolts to what it stated on the sheet I found. I then put the three bolts back in the exhaust system to get it back in place which basically completed the installation of my Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch. 502792

I am so happy that I found your website and purchased the appropriate hitch for my vehicle. Actually I was surprised how easy it was to install and I was able to do it with-out a hitch. So I guess that a Thank You is in order for such a wonderful product and customer service.

2011 Chrysler Town and Country

I purchased a etrailer hitch for my 2011 Town and Country van. I was hesitant to install myself but after viewing several installation videos and customers comments I dove into the project. I had visions of rusty, broken bolts, drilling and tapping and laying under the vehicle all day. Needless to say it took less than an hour. I didn’t jack the car up and I easily installed it by myself. A helper might have been handy, but I supported one side with a card board box while getting bolts started in other side. I took two hanger brackets loose and easily shoved the resonator aside to put in trailer hitch bolts under it. I was cautious takeing out the two smaller bolts, they were somewhat rusty. I backed them out a couple turns, sprayed with penetrating rust oil turned back in then backed out again. I repeated that procedure several times. On the attached photo I show the bolt next to the air conditioner line, etrailer enclosed a piece of plastic to slip over the ac line so hitch does not rub against, the plastic is enclosed in the receiving part of hitch and I did not discover until hitch was installed, but was easy to slip over after hitch was installed. This is a well engineered hitch and easy to install! 496717

It has been a year since I installed the etrailer hitch. I would do it again as it is a very solid hitch and you can barely tell there is a hitch on the van when the ball isnt installed. The only thing I would do differently, I would not purchase the hitch silencer, it does work nicely at keeping the receiver from rattling in the hitch socket, but the bumper interferes with it, which makes it difficult to use. For long road trips I would say get it, but if just pulling a trailer around town and to a big box store, forget it.

2018 Dodge Grand Caravan

First thing I must state is I got a price of 500.00 to have a hitch and wiring installed for my grand caravan. I started searching the net and found multiple places to purchase the items needed, but etrailer had the videos and information needed to ease my mind on installing myself. The hitch installed within an hour. The wiring took about an hour and a half with my sons help. We are going to pull a pop up camper this summer on a nice long road trip. Cathy, the employee that answered my call, was very helpful and reassured me that even I could install this. To anyone with concern on installing yourself, watch the videos first then place your order. 526406

I found that the Draw-Tite hitch (#75579) is an excellent product that fit my 2014 Town and Country perfectly. The excellent installation videos provided by etrailer added to my confidence that I could do the job correctly the first time and wasn't getting into something beyond my skill set. The hardest part was getting my 60 year-old butt down on the floor to bolt it up! The whole job of installing the hitch took about 1/2 an hour including unboxing the hitch, jacking up and securing the van, installing the hitch, and cleanup. I also purchased and installed the T-one wiring kit (#118534) which was also a perfect fit and relatively simple to install. Again, etrailer's installation video was thorough and inspired confidence that I could complete the job correctly the first time. Both the hitch and the wiring harness are highly recommended! 476670

I have absolutely no complaints. Your products worked as advertised and I have had no issues with either the hitch or the wiring. Im still a very satisfied customer and should I ever need any trailer parts or accessories in the future, I will surely be a repeat customer of etrailer!

I had just recently had somebody run into my truck that I was going to use to pull a trailer for our family vacation. It seemed that our vacation was ruined as I called around to rent a truck and it was very expensive to rent 1 with a tow hitch. I went online on a Wednesday night to etrailers.com to try and get a tow hitch package for our van. I then called them just to make sure I would get what I wanted in time. I talked to a ver nice lady in sales named Katie H. She told me that she would try to get the shipment out that evening for delivery on Friday. Everything made it, and our family's vacation was saved. With the great video they have to install everything, it was very simple to install everything from the hitch assembly to the wiring. Thanks to etrailer.com! I will be doing more business with them in the near future. It is nice to see that there are still good people to deal with. 21657

This is a well made hitch, directions are very straight forward and the fit is excellent. E-trailer's price was very favorable, offering a savings over local vendors. A recommendation for those in the rust belt where salt is applied to the roads in winter- If your Caravan is anything besides brand new be careful removing the bumper bolts from the unibody when mounting the hitch. I had two bolts that were partially seized and did not cooperate initially requiring several applications of PB Blaster and carefully working the bolt back and forth with a rachet handle to remove the both without damage. My van is only 4 years old. Upon installing the hitch a heavy application of rust inhibitor like Fluid Film or Texaco Compound L to the unibody surface where the hitch mates is a good idea as salt and sand can build up and cause rust. 288517

As for the hitch, it was a simple install and has proven itself very useful, having a family transporter that can now pull my smaller trailers as well as carry my wife and kids at the same time. The heaviest load I have hauled was 2,500lbs of drywall which maxed out my small trailer the van handled it with ease. Again, a great product.

I have not had a chance to install the products I ordered yet so I cannot comment on the ease of installation or functioning of them. The customer service I have received so far has been exactly what I have come to expect, excellent. The installation videos I saw on the E-Trailer site were great. I knew the products were the correct ones for my application and I was sure I could handle the installation because I watched it done on “my” vehicle. My one criticism is the way my order was packed for shipment. The items were loose in one box with no packing. This presented the opportunity for loss of the smaller items in the event of damage to the box. I was fortunate in that although the box was torn open none of the items were lost. I was also fortunate that the fairly delicate transmission cooler was not damaged by slamming against the trailer hitch during the rough handling that damaged the box. Thank you for the otherwise excellent service. 67260

The hitch and accessories arrived on time. It could have been packaged a little better. Parts of the receiver had pushed through the box and the coating had been chipped to bare metal. Installation was not "easy" but I was able to do it myself with no lift or help. If you are much bigger than I am you'd need to get the van off the ground more to gain access to crawl around. I ended up dropping the (from the back) the first three exhaust hangers to gain enough room to work. The larger bolts need to be torqued to 93ft/lbs for the hitch installation. This is near impossible while lying on your back and trying to hold the wrench on the bolt and torque it at the same time. I would suggest using a powerful impact wrench. My little handheld Milwaukee was not strong enough to undo the larger bolts let alone torque properly. The hitch looks pretty good installed. Despite some other reviewers comments mine does push up on the bumper slightly ('14 sxt 30th). I also installed the wiring kit from Dodge. That was well worth the bit extra $. It's literally plug and play other than running the harness up to the battery area. If you buy this harness make sure to purchase a way to mount your 7-way connection outlet. The hitch doesn't not have a way to mount it without purchasing another bracket. 231855

Took about an hour w/ my son... definitely not a 1 person job. The installation was difficult for us only because we didn't have the correct extensions to reach some of the bolts. Other than that, it really was a simple task... remove the 2 exhaust hangers (2 bolts); remove the 5 bolts; install included cover for one of the AC lines; fit the exhaust-side of the hitch first & get the two bolts threaded; then lift the other side & get the other 3 bolts threaded; torque down all the bolts; reinstall the exhaust hanger bolts; finally, marvel at the completed work. 124058

I bought this after I bought a similar product from Curt Manufacturing, and sent it back because the driver's side flange was bent 2 inches out of line, due to poor packaging. I thought I would do better with a different supplier. However, when I received it, I found it was packaged just as badly, with the metal flange sticking out through the box. I would have shipped it back, but the box was in too bad a shape to do that, and I was frustrated with the second one having issues. I did find that while the driver's side flange was bent, it was only 3/4 inch, not the two inches that the other one was. I was able to put it in a vice and bend it back in to line, and went ahead and installed it. The installation was straightforward, and took less than a half hour. I did not need to trim the bumper fascia, and it looks like a factory install, so I'm happy with the result. I will have to touch up the paint that got scraped off in the process of shipping. But overall, it works, and should do what I want it to do. Oh, and one of the pictures shows a machining burr in the receiver bore, which was painted, rather than removed. Biggest complaint is that the shipping box is awful. I'd hate to think of how much damage this package was doing to all the other boxes in the UPS truck. 547851

I'm not sure if the instillation took me 30 minutes or maybe a little bit more but the hardest part for me was getting my 61 year old butt down on the drive way and under the back of my 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan. The second hardest part was getting back up. I ordered a "complete package", that is to say a hitch receiver and wiring harness. I went ahead with another reviewer's advice and installed the wiring harness first. Then I jacked up only the rear passenger side and removed the three exhaust system hangers. Removing only one did not give me enough room to get to the bolts used for the passenger side of the receiver hitch. I thought I might need help to hold one side in place while bolting up the other but that was not the case. The receiver assembly was a perfect fit and light enough for me to hang one end off on the dropped down exhaust system while starting a bolt on the driver's side. My wife did help by passing me the required sockets, ratchets & hardware. When it was all said and done it looked great. Only the 2" square tube for the ball mount is visible from a standing view and it does not protrude past the bumper at all. No cutting or other modification of the bumper was needed. I sweated more mowing the lawn later that day than I did installing this hitch receiver and my wife thinks I'm a mechanical whizz kid now! 133836

We dont employ the hitch every day. Its installed on a mini-van not an 18 wheeler. But we did get a 10 x 5 single axle utility trailer for hauling top soil, landscaping materials and other Harry the Homeowner DIY type stuff. We also used the hitch to haul rented equipment like wood chippers and cement mixers. Fitting our mini van with a Draw-Tite trailer hitch has really made it a multi-use vehicle and in my opinion was one of the smarter things Ive done in life! -

Installed this hitch today on my 2013 Grand Caravan R/T and it was easy. I found that watching the installation video on the e trailer site was helpful. I knew exactly how it was going to look before the hitch ever arrived. One tip I found may help with moving the exhaust and muffler out of the way is to also remove the bolt holding the second hanger from the rear that is just ahead of the axle. Having both hangers loose makes it easier to move the exhaust pipe. You're going to need some room to swing the wrench on those two passenger side bolts and that helps give you a bit more clearance. This hitch looks great on the van. Very discrete and doesn't hurt the appearance one bit. 281103

  • Can a 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan Tow a Trailer
The 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan has a fairly high towing capacity of 3,600 lbs so you should not have any issues towing most small boat or U-Haul trailers. • Towing Set Up for 2014 Chrysler Town and Country
You can pull your 2003 Jayco Qwest pop-up that weighs just 2,000 lbs with your 2014 Chrysler Town and Country; I checked out the owner's manual and you are right that it has enough capacity for this trailer. The first thing you are going to need is a trailer hitch and I recommend the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch # 75579; I have added a link to a video of this hitch being installed on a '14 Town and Country for you to take a look at. It has a 4,000 lb towing capacity and 400 lb tongue weight...

  • What All is Needed to Tow a Trailer with a 2015 Dodge Grand Caravan
The Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver, part # 75579, is a confirmed fit on your 2015 Dodge Grand Caravan even with the Stow-n-Go seating. You don't need to purchase any hardware separately but the hitch doesn't include hardware either. The hardware is already on the van and is reused to install the hitch. I've linked a video showing the install. If you're going to be towing a trailer with your van you also need a wiring harness like the Tekonsha, part # 118534. This is a 4-way connector....

  • Trailer Hitch and Wiring Recommendation for 2019 Dodge Grand Caravan
The trailer hitch I highly recommend for your 2019 Dodge Grand Caravan is the Draw-Tite # 75579 because it has a concealed crosstube and is a bolt-on installation that will not require drilling into your vehicle's frame to install. This Class III, 2" trailer hitch is almost entirely hidden behind your bumper, as you can see by the accompanying photo a customer sent in of this hitch installed on their Grand Caravan. The hitch has a black powder coat finish to protect it from corrosion...

  • Does Draw Tite Hitch # 75579 Fit 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan with Stow and Go Seating
Yes, the Draw Tite hitch part # 75579 is a confirmed fit for your 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan with Stow N Go seating. This is the least visible hitch option we have for your vehicle so it's a really great option. I attached an install video for more info as well. For trailer wiring you'd then want the Tekonsha kit part # 118552 which has an easy install and comes with a very reliable converter box so it will last you a long time. If you wanted to do some towing you might be interested...

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch and Towing Capacity for 2018 Dodge Grand Caravan
I took a look at the online version of the owner's manual for your 2018 Dodge Grand Caravan. The van's actual towing capacity will depend on how many passengers (including the driver) you have in the vehicle. The manual lists the following capacities: Up to 2 persons and luggage - 3,600 pound towing capacity 3 to 5 persons and luggage - 3,450 pound towing capacity 6 to 7 persons and luggage - 3,000 pound towing capacity For a trailer hitch I recommend the Draw-Tite Class III Max...

  • Does Hitch Need to be Factory Installed on 2015 Town & Country for Highest Towing Capacity?
I have not heard of a towing capacity being sliced in half based on who installed the items; I also went through the owner's manual of a '15 Chrysler Town and Country that I found online and there was no mention of towing capacity being reduced without factory equipment. I assume this was the car dealer who told you this? While I cannot tell you for certain that what that individual said is not true, I would make it a point to contact other Chrysler dealers and specifically ask about towing...

  • Can 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan be Flat Towed
I did some checking and it looks like you'd need to install a lube pump in your 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan to be able to flat tow it but aside from that it definitely can be done. We do not offer lube pumps at this time so that would be the only thing you'd have to source elsewhere. For a base plate kit you'd want the part # 291-1 which is a confirmed fit. This is what attaches to the frame of your vehicle which allows a tow bar to connect to it. In addition to the base plates, you...

  • How Much Can 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan Tow?
I took a look at the owner's manual for your 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan and it states, as you said, the maximum gross trailer weight is 3,600 lbs, and this is taking into account two people and luggage. The ONLY specifics given were that your Grand Caravan have a 3.6L automatic so that's what I can confirm - a 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan with a 3.6L automatic can tow 3,600 lbs if the van has two passengers and luggage, and more weight would lessen the capacity; you can find this on page...

  • Where to Place Jacks When Installing a Trailer Hitch on a 2019 Dodge Grand Caravan
I took a look at the online version of the owner's manual for your 2019 Dodge Grand Caravan and on page 305 it states that the rear jack location is located between a pair of down-facing tabs that are on the sill flange of the vehicle side of the body. I recommend checking your copy of the owner's manual to verify this. Since the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # 75579 installs behind your rear tires this jack location will not interfere with the installation process. You...

  • Why Does 2018 Dodge Grand Caravan Require Powered Converter Type 4-Pole Trailer Wiring Harness
The taillights in your 2018 Dodge Grand Caravan are the highly-efficient LED type that need very little power to operate brightly (a good thing). For this reason the OEM vehicle wiring that brings power to those lights can be very light in gauge which saves both cost and weight since copper is both fairly costly and fairly heavy. Unfortunately, this light-gauge wiring cannot handle the additional power drawn by a trailer's lights. For this reason it is necessary (not optional, sorry)...

  • Towing Capacity and Parts Needed to Tow with 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan
The owner's manual for the 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan with 3.6L engine and automatic transmission indicates on page 543 that this vehicle can tow up to 3600-lbs under specific conditions. Those conditions relate to how many passengers there are in the van and how much other cargo. It is a good idea to check your manual in case it has different information. I checked a bunch of 42-inch zero-turn mowers and found their weights to be as follows: John Deere Z235 = 459-lbs Gravely ZT 42...

You are on the right track with the upgrades you are considering to tow your potential R-Pod 176T safely with your 2016 Kia Sedona that has the Curt hitch part # C13115 installed on it. A brake controller is the first thing I'd recommend installing like you have as it will help your vehicle stop and at the weight of your trailer is basically a requirement. I've attached a video of this hitch being installed on a 2015 Caravan with Stow-n-Go seats which should be helpful. You can see in the video how the exhaust is lowered to give better access for mounting the hitch. The mounting holes should be 52 3/4" apart on this hitch.
