Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 2017 Dodge Grand Caravan - Draw-Tite

Today, on our 2017 Dodge Grand Caravan, we're going to take a look at, and also show you how to install the Draw-Tite max-frame custom fit class 3 trailer hitch receiver. Part number is 75579. Here's what our Draw-Tite class 3 is going to look like installed. You can see that cross tube is going to remain hidden behind that rear fascia, which is nice. It's just going to leave us, basically, with our 2 inch by 2 inch receiver tube opening, and our safety chain connection points here. These are a rolled steel stock.

Plenty of room in there to get our chains connected. You'll see that nice reinforcement collar around the end there. It kind of has a rounded look to it, to keep it pretty aesthetically pleasing. With this being a class 3 hitch, this is going to run the gamut on accessories that we can use on it. Ball mounts, of course, bike racks, hitch cargo carriers, tables, you name it. If they make a hitch accessory, they'll probably make it in a class 3.

This is the most common, most versatile one out on the market. When it comes time to hold all those items in place, you're going to see 2 holes on the side of your hitch, here. We want to use the larger one that's closer to the front of the vehicle. That's 5/8 of an inch in diameter. Want to choose class 3 accessories, and it looks like we're going to have plenty of room on each side there for regular hitch pins and clips, locking hitch pins, or even anti rattle devices. One anti rattle device available is called the J-Pin stabilization system.

That's the only time that rear hole will ever be used. When it comes to weight ratings for the hitch, it's going to offer a 400 pound tongue weight rating. That's the maximum downward force we can put here, at our receiver tube opening. It offers a 4,000 pound gross trailer weight rating. That would be the total weight of our trailer, and anything that we we're to load up on it. The hitch does come with a weight distribution rating, as well.

It's okay to use with weight distribution, and that's going to raise the tongue weight rating up to 500 pounds. The gross trailer weight rating is going to go up to 5,000 pounds. Of course, we do need to check the owner's manual on the Grand Caravan. We want to see what its tow rating is. We'll use whichever of those numbers are the lowest. A few measurements that are going to be helpful in selecting your ball mount, bike rack, or hitch cargo carrier: From the ground to the inside top edge of the receiver tube opening, we're going to have about 13 inches. We would recommend the use of accessories with a raised shank to help promote better ground clearance at the rear. Also, from the center of our hitch pin hole, to the outermost edge of our bumper, it's going to be about 5 inches. To begin our installation, we need to get this exhaust down and out of the way, just so we can have room to get up there to the hardware. We're going to be dropping 3 hangers. It's really a pretty simple process. First one is going to be right here behind the exhaust pipe. There's just going to be one 13 millimeter bolt that we need to remove. We'll just back that out. We'll just kind of rotate that down just a touch. We'll move up on our exhaust pipe, here. The next one is going to be right behind our muffler, located right up there. Got that one down. If we go kind of catty corner to this one, right up here on the other side, we'll have our third. Again, all of them are going to use a 13 millimeter. All right. Now, let's take a look at our hardware mounting locations. On the driver's side here, we've got 3. You can see a small bolt right here. This takes a 15 millimeter socket. The 2 in front of that use 18 millimeter sockets. On the driver's side, we remove all 3 of these. On our passenger side, we're just going to remove the smaller 15 millimeter and 18 millimeter. With an extra set of hands, we're going to lift our hitch up into position. We'll guide our passenger side up over the exhaust, there. Bring the driver's side up. You'll see the holes in the hitch are going to match up right with the holes where we removed those bolts from. One thing we will need to do is, kind of move this plate around, so our holes are going to line up. You can see it kind of gets out of position there. I like to just use a screwdriver. Place it up in there. Get one of my bolts started. I usually start with the one here in the rear. We'll just move forward. Same thing for our middle hole location. Once we've got that started with 3 or 4 good turns, we'll be able to let our hitch rest there, while we get our other side started. We'll get our last one started here on the driver's side. We'll get these snugged down. With those snugged down, we want to check out our instructions. We're going to have our torque specifications. We want to go through and make sure each bolt is torqued down appropriately. All right. Now, we can get that exhaust put back into position. With our exhaust back in place, that's going to complete our installation of the Draw-Tite custom fit class 3 trailer hitch receiver, part number 75579, on our 2017 Dodge Grand Caravan.

I purchased a etrailer hitch for my 2011 Town and Country van. I was hesitant to install myself but after viewing several installation videos and customers comments I dove into the project. I had visions of rusty, broken bolts, drilling and tapping and laying under the vehicle all day. Needless to say it took less than an hour. I didn’t jack the car up and I easily installed it by myself. A helper might have been handy, but I supported one side with a card board box while getting bolts started in other side. I took two hanger brackets loose and easily shoved the resonator aside to put in trailer hitch bolts under it. I was cautious takeing out the two smaller bolts, they were somewhat rusty. I backed them out a couple turns, sprayed with penetrating rust oil turned back in then backed out again. I repeated that procedure several times. On the attached photo I show the bolt next to the air conditioner line, etrailer enclosed a piece of plastic to slip over the ac line so hitch does not rub against, the plastic is enclosed in the receiving part of hitch and I did not discover until hitch was installed, but was easy to slip over after hitch was installed. This is a well engineered hitch and easy to install! 496717

It has been a year since I installed the etrailer hitch. I would do it again as it is a very solid hitch and you can barely tell there is a hitch on the van when the ball isnt installed. The only thing I would do differently, I would not purchase the hitch silencer, it does work nicely at keeping the receiver from rattling in the hitch socket, but the bumper interferes with it, which makes it difficult to use. For long road trips I would say get it, but if just pulling a trailer around town and to a big box store, forget it.

I have been looking for a hitch for awhile now and then I came across your web page. I have seen Draw-Tite hitches on quite a few vehicles. So I went on to do a little research and to read quite a few of the reviews on this hitch here. After reading the reviews and the price of the hitch at that time I decided that I had found the hitch for my 2011 Dodge Grand Caravan Crew. I placed the order and the next day received a message that my order had shipped. The box arrived very quickly after I placed my order which was a pleasant surprise. One side of the box was really tore up and the hitch had come free of the strapping inside the box. The only thing inside the box was the hitch with the tongue/receiver wrapped in plastic wrap and the two pieces of cardboard that had come free. I search the inside of the box for some instructions but did not find any at this point so I would know exactly which bolts to take out. The first thing I did was to jack up the back of my van so I had a little more room to work underneath where the hitch was to go. Then I took off the passenger side rear tire to give me better access to the bolts that had to come out for the hitch and for the exhaust system to be lowered. I then took out the five bolts for the hitch and had to take out the three bolts holding up the exhaust to give me room to install the hitch. Then came the hardest part of the whole process and that was getting the hitch up to a point where I could get a bolt started. I tried using the exhaust system to help me but was still having a problem. So I got a cinder block I had in the garage and put it under one end of the hitch which was a better platform and really helped me getting the other side started. From that point on it went really well getting the other side started and then all five bolts in and tightened down. I then stepped back to see what it looked like and at this time I saw something white deep in the hitch receiver/tongue. When I pulled it out I noticed it was the instruction I had looked for earlier. It would have been nice to have these when I first started. A suggestion would be to put a notice on the plastic wrap that is wrapped around the receiver/tongue of the hitch that states "Instruction Enclosed" or "Packing Slip Enclosed" or just tape them to the inside of the box, not hidden inside a wrapped receiver/tongue of the hitch. I then went back and torqued the five bolts to what it stated on the sheet I found. I then put the three bolts back in the exhaust system to get it back in place which basically completed the installation of my Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch. 502792

I am so happy that I found your website and purchased the appropriate hitch for my vehicle. Actually I was surprised how easy it was to install and I was able to do it with-out a hitch. So I guess that a Thank You is in order for such a wonderful product and customer service.

I love this hitch and it looks very nice. I have a 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan and have installed a few class III hitches over the years. This was by far the easiest yet and the fit and finish are excellent and the supplied instructions were clear and concise. I was worried initially that a big class II hitch would ruin the lines of my van and look like a giant piped monstrosity hanging below my rear bumper. Nothing could be further from the truth…it is totally hidden except for the receiver tube that snugs up under the rear bumper. Instructions recommend trimming rubber bumper around receiver tube but I didn’t and it looks really good. Note that the mounting bolts must be torqued to specs and I was lucky enough to already own a torque wrench. If you don’t, consider renting or purchasing one. Please don’t be foolish and endanger others on the road by skimping on this step. I am very strong but still had to strain against the torque wrench to apply the given torque values in the instructions. 316435

I found that the Draw-Tite hitch (#75579) is an excellent product that fit my 2014 Town and Country perfectly. The excellent installation videos provided by etrailer added to my confidence that I could do the job correctly the first time and wasn't getting into something beyond my skill set. The hardest part was getting my 60 year-old butt down on the floor to bolt it up! The whole job of installing the hitch took about 1/2 an hour including unboxing the hitch, jacking up and securing the van, installing the hitch, and cleanup. I also purchased and installed the T-one wiring kit (#118534) which was also a perfect fit and relatively simple to install. Again, etrailer's installation video was thorough and inspired confidence that I could complete the job correctly the first time. Both the hitch and the wiring harness are highly recommended! 476670

I have absolutely no complaints. Your products worked as advertised and I have had no issues with either the hitch or the wiring. Im still a very satisfied customer and should I ever need any trailer parts or accessories in the future, I will surely be a repeat customer of etrailer!

Installation went fairly smoothly, mainly because of etrailer's great instructional video (Search YouTube for "etrailer hitch 2013 town and country"). However, if you don't have access to a lift, installation could be much more difficult and time-consuming. I installed the trailer hitch receiver by myself and used wood blocks to lift it into position. Also, mine did not come with instructions (referenced in the YouTube video) which - I'm assuming - would have the torque specifications for the bolts. 130094

This product fit very easy. The total install time was about 30 minutes. It could have been faster, but I only had one jack. I have only towed a few times, but it seems to have my issues so far. 564387

I had just recently had somebody run into my truck that I was going to use to pull a trailer for our family vacation. It seemed that our vacation was ruined as I called around to rent a truck and it was very expensive to rent 1 with a tow hitch. I went online on a Wednesday night to etrailers.com to try and get a tow hitch package for our van. I then called them just to make sure I would get what I wanted in time. I talked to a ver nice lady in sales named Katie H. She told me that she would try to get the shipment out that evening for delivery on Friday. Everything made it, and our family's vacation was saved. With the great video they have to install everything, it was very simple to install everything from the hitch assembly to the wiring. Thanks to etrailer.com! I will be doing more business with them in the near future. It is nice to see that there are still good people to deal with. 21657

I wasn't sure if I can tackle the job - but after watching the instructional video and receiving the hitch - it was a straight forward job as shown - very good hitch and good service from the etrailer folks. I love how it's hidden at this van and from now on, I will always get my hitches from etrailer with that support and service - nice product and please keep it up! 44776

This is a well made hitch, directions are very straight forward and the fit is excellent. E-trailer's price was very favorable, offering a savings over local vendors. A recommendation for those in the rust belt where salt is applied to the roads in winter- If your Caravan is anything besides brand new be careful removing the bumper bolts from the unibody when mounting the hitch. I had two bolts that were partially seized and did not cooperate initially requiring several applications of PB Blaster and carefully working the bolt back and forth with a rachet handle to remove the both without damage. My van is only 4 years old. Upon installing the hitch a heavy application of rust inhibitor like Fluid Film or Texaco Compound L to the unibody surface where the hitch mates is a good idea as salt and sand can build up and cause rust. 288517

As for the hitch, it was a simple install and has proven itself very useful, having a family transporter that can now pull my smaller trailers as well as carry my wife and kids at the same time. The heaviest load I have hauled was 2,500lbs of drywall which maxed out my small trailer the van handled it with ease. Again, a great product.

I have not had a chance to install the products I ordered yet so I cannot comment on the ease of installation or functioning of them. The customer service I have received so far has been exactly what I have come to expect, excellent. The installation videos I saw on the E-Trailer site were great. I knew the products were the correct ones for my application and I was sure I could handle the installation because I watched it done on “my” vehicle. My one criticism is the way my order was packed for shipment. The items were loose in one box with no packing. This presented the opportunity for loss of the smaller items in the event of damage to the box. I was fortunate in that although the box was torn open none of the items were lost. I was also fortunate that the fairly delicate transmission cooler was not damaged by slamming against the trailer hitch during the rough handling that damaged the box. Thank you for the otherwise excellent service. 67260

Followup: The hitch has been in service since installed. It has towed my West Wight Potter sailboat without incident for one season. I now have a 17 foot travel trailer that it handles as well. I am very happy with my purchase. Thank you etrailer.

Overall the product is excellent. Great quality and very solid. The directions that come in the box are very helpful. Do yourself a favor and watch the video for your vehicle if they have one, much more helpful. The directions say to remove rearmost exhaust bracket to drop exhaust out of the way of mounting holes, you really have to drop much more of the exhaust i order to get to them. Had to remove 3 brackets to lower exhaust enough to get it out of the way. Went back later and noticed that the video does show this. Wiring harness way top notch quality too and went in just as video described. This is the 2 vehicle I’ve installed hitches on for etrailer. Love their products, price, and work they put into explaining how to diy. 507788

The hitch and accessories arrived on time. It could have been packaged a little better. Parts of the receiver had pushed through the box and the coating had been chipped to bare metal. Installation was not "easy" but I was able to do it myself with no lift or help. If you are much bigger than I am you'd need to get the van off the ground more to gain access to crawl around. I ended up dropping the (from the back) the first three exhaust hangers to gain enough room to work. The larger bolts need to be torqued to 93ft/lbs for the hitch installation. This is near impossible while lying on your back and trying to hold the wrench on the bolt and torque it at the same time. I would suggest using a powerful impact wrench. My little handheld Milwaukee was not strong enough to undo the larger bolts let alone torque properly. The hitch looks pretty good installed. Despite some other reviewers comments mine does push up on the bumper slightly ('14 sxt 30th). I also installed the wiring kit from Dodge. That was well worth the bit extra $. It's literally plug and play other than running the harness up to the battery area. If you buy this harness make sure to purchase a way to mount your 7-way connection outlet. The hitch doesn't not have a way to mount it without purchasing another bracket. 231855

Happy with this - would buy it again. The fit was good. Only had to drop the muffler brackets to install. The only issue I would note is the hitch fits tight against the bottom of the bumper. It actually pushes it up slightly as you tighten the bolts. The good thing about that is if you want the hitch to be less noticeable, the tight fit helps to hide it more. 567011

Took about an hour w/ my son... definitely not a 1 person job. The installation was difficult for us only because we didn't have the correct extensions to reach some of the bolts. Other than that, it really was a simple task... remove the 2 exhaust hangers (2 bolts); remove the 5 bolts; install included cover for one of the AC lines; fit the exhaust-side of the hitch first & get the two bolts threaded; then lift the other side & get the other 3 bolts threaded; torque down all the bolts; reinstall the exhaust hanger bolts; finally, marvel at the completed work. 124058

First thing I must state is I got a price of 500.00 to have a hitch and wiring installed for my grand caravan. I started searching the net and found multiple places to purchase the items needed, but etrailer had the videos and information needed to ease my mind on installing myself. The hitch installed within an hour. The wiring took about an hour and a half with my sons help. We are going to pull a pop up camper this summer on a nice long road trip. Cathy, the employee that answered my call, was very helpful and reassured me that even I could install this. To anyone with concern on installing yourself, watch the videos first then place your order. 526406

Installed this hitch today on my 2013 Grand Caravan R/T and it was easy. I found that watching the installation video on the e trailer site was helpful. I knew exactly how it was going to look before the hitch ever arrived. One tip I found may help with moving the exhaust and muffler out of the way is to also remove the bolt holding the second hanger from the rear that is just ahead of the axle. Having both hangers loose makes it easier to move the exhaust pipe. You're going to need some room to swing the wrench on those two passenger side bolts and that helps give you a bit more clearance. This hitch looks great on the van. Very discrete and doesn't hurt the appearance one bit. 281103

This hitch is a perfect fit for my 2014 Town and Country. The screws and washers are already in my vehicle's structure. All you have to do is set the muffler loose to get it out of the way by unscrewing two of the rear muffler brackets and you are ready to go. It took me a good 45 minutes to complete the job and all the tools I needed were the wrench and three different dies with a die extension. It was easier than it appeared. The hitch structure is completely hidden behind the bumper and all you see from behind is the 2" receiver. Most important is that you do not have to trim or do any modification to your vehicle. Like I said: This hitch is the perfect fit. 158157

The hitch went on our Town & Country van with a perfect fit. My observations: You could probably do this installation by your self, but I would recommend having help. It is heavy and awkward. The mount on the passenger side is above the exhaust which had to be dropped down by removing one hanger bolt. This had already been mentioned by etrailer and we expected this. No problem there, but it still does not give you enough clearance for your socket and extension to meet the bolts on the frame. Fortunately, we had everything to do the job, which was a universal joint and an impact wrench. It took more time to rig the wiring harness than mount the hitch. I suggest you NOT tie the wiring up or attach any harness parts until everything else is in place and secure. Others have suggested installing the wiring first, which may or may not be best, but be forewarned that with the wiring already in place the hitch will make a difference in the slack of the wire. For our purpose and vehicle the 2" mount turned 'up' gives us just the clearance we need. And I really like that the hitch does not stick out past the bumper. No more cracked shins! One last note: one small bag containing some instructions and minor parts was stuffed in the receiver. We did not discover this until the job was complete and we slid the mount into the receiver. When it would not go all the way in we found the 'Easter Egg'. Excellent service and best price. They stand by their offer of price matching. 368911

I bought this after I bought a similar product from Curt Manufacturing, and sent it back because the driver's side flange was bent 2 inches out of line, due to poor packaging. I thought I would do better with a different supplier. However, when I received it, I found it was packaged just as badly, with the metal flange sticking out through the box. I would have shipped it back, but the box was in too bad a shape to do that, and I was frustrated with the second one having issues. I did find that while the driver's side flange was bent, it was only 3/4 inch, not the two inches that the other one was. I was able to put it in a vice and bend it back in to line, and went ahead and installed it. The installation was straightforward, and took less than a half hour. I did not need to trim the bumper fascia, and it looks like a factory install, so I'm happy with the result. I will have to touch up the paint that got scraped off in the process of shipping. But overall, it works, and should do what I want it to do. Oh, and one of the pictures shows a machining burr in the receiver bore, which was painted, rather than removed. Biggest complaint is that the shipping box is awful. I'd hate to think of how much damage this package was doing to all the other boxes in the UPS truck. 547851

I was thrilled to receive the package in a reasonable time with free shipping. I found myself victim of my own poor foresight however. In order to comfortably install the hitch, I used a few jack stands while already parked on an incline. I can only speculate that having the vehicle so uneven caused the frame and the body to shift after removing the bolts. I managed to realign the frame and body by feeding a screwdriver through the hitch, frame and body weld nuts(in that order)while beginning the second of the larger bolts with the other hand. Also, I found it necessary to remove all three exhaust hangers to get enough clearance for this "DIY" procedure. Other than that, my torque wrench only goes to about 85 ft/lb accurately (but I'm confident it will hold.) Thank you etrailer.com for a great product and instructional videos. 63138

2013 Chrysler Town and Country

The hitch I order arrived very promptly. The box wasn't in very good shape, but really, what could harm this heavy piece of welded steel anyhow? Installation was a breeze on my 2013 Chrystler T&C. I jacked up the rear passenger side so as to have a little more room to crawl under the vehicle. I removed 3 rear-most exhaust hangers with no trouble. Probably could have just done one or two, but as the exhaust was hanging, I didn't want to put any stress on the piping. The hitch fit like a glove, and although it is pretty heavy/bulky, I managed the install by myself. I simply rested the driver's side on the ground, lifted the passenger side into place and quickly held it in place by finger-tightening one of the bolts. After that, moved to the driver side and hung it the same way. Then continued installing the remaining bolts. A couple comments on fitment: The hitch lines up perfectly with the frame and bolts. We have the "touring" trim and so I did have the A/C lines to contend with. I have no worries the hitch will interfere with operation in any way...there was plenty of clearance there. However, the receiver does push up slightly on the bumper fascia. Not so much that the warping is visible from the rear, but if you crawl underneath you'll definitely be able to tell. It's very minor and I don't think is a problem, but it was something I was curious about as I was deciding on making the purchase. I'm excited to put this thing into service...we'll be making a road trip soon and hauling several bikes. I love that when not in use, this thing is hardly visible at all. Thanks eTrailer! 345351

Thanks for your business and your review, Bryan! According to the instructions, some trimming of the fascia may have to take place for this item to sit flush against the frame. I hope this helps to clarify.

2014 Dodge Grand Caravan

I'm not sure if the instillation took me 30 minutes or maybe a little bit more but the hardest part for me was getting my 61 year old butt down on the drive way and under the back of my 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan. The second hardest part was getting back up. I ordered a "complete package", that is to say a hitch receiver and wiring harness. I went ahead with another reviewer's advice and installed the wiring harness first. Then I jacked up only the rear passenger side and removed the three exhaust system hangers. Removing only one did not give me enough room to get to the bolts used for the passenger side of the receiver hitch. I thought I might need help to hold one side in place while bolting up the other but that was not the case. The receiver assembly was a perfect fit and light enough for me to hang one end off on the dropped down exhaust system while starting a bolt on the driver's side. My wife did help by passing me the required sockets, ratchets & hardware. When it was all said and done it looked great. Only the 2" square tube for the ball mount is visible from a standing view and it does not protrude past the bumper at all. No cutting or other modification of the bumper was needed. I sweated more mowing the lawn later that day than I did installing this hitch receiver and my wife thinks I'm a mechanical whizz kid now! 133836

We dont employ the hitch every day. Its installed on a mini-van not an 18 wheeler. But we did get a 10 x 5 single axle utility trailer for hauling top soil, landscaping materials and other Harry the Homeowner DIY type stuff. We also used the hitch to haul rented equipment like wood chippers and cement mixers. Fitting our mini van with a Draw-Tite trailer hitch has really made it a multi-use vehicle and in my opinion was one of the smarter things Ive done in life! -

Very easy to install and fit perfectly. The only issue was how tight the fit was to get the bolts in and out on the passenger side under the muffler. Great to not have to buy additional mounting hardware for the project. Item shipped quickly and arrived a day sooner than it was scheduled. 516132

Great Product! If you have the tools the gentleman had in the video (powered drivers, Vehicle lift, etc) It would make this a quick install, as the video shows. As for me and my gravel drive way, hand tools, it was a little more of a job, but very do able. The ordering, was a breeze, and the Shipping was fast and free. (Over $100 = free shipping) Received it in 2 days. I used my ramps to back the van up on (Proceed at own risk), it made room to fit my butt up under it. The muffler is your biggest enemy and friend on this job, I took out both bolts on the muffler supports as the video shows, but it was still a bit of a job to get one of the bolts out that was above the muffler. A little groaning and questioning why the engineer felt the need to assign a bolt 4 times longer than needed on the van, I got it out. (Note: the bolt closest to the front on the passenger side could have been left in, had I noted the hole locations on the hitch) Once the Bolts are out on driver and passenger side you are ready for the hitch to go in. This is when the muffler becomes your friend, as it can be used to hold up the left side of the not so light assembly. I got a bolt started in the driver side, left it loose, but tight enough to hold it, then went to the passenger side and did the same thing. Fought with the extra long bolt I complained about before, then tighten them snug and torqued. The wiring was easier, just follow the directions, it goes pretty smooth. The biggest part of that deal was running the Positive wire to the front of the van to hook to the battery. I was over all very happy with my purchase, and the product. I would recommend this Company, and product to others for sure. 414895

The product is solid. It is designed and built very well. The cross-bar is inserted into the brackets, then welded, which makes the connection structurally strong Installation was fine, with a few notes, in my case: - to lower exhaust needed to remove three hangers, not one: two on the outer side of the pipe, and one on the inner, in front of the rear axle (picture) - i did not jack the vehicle up, doing all work on my back under it, at times reaching under just far enough to get good leverage with the socket wrench - one of my 15mm bolts was very tight to undo due to rust on its stem, actually getting tighter as the rusty part worked its way through, used wd-40 and went back and forth a few times before it finally gave - after hanging the hitch on the bolts, pushed it to driver's side as much hole openings allowed before final tightening: to maximize clearance with muffler - used extension bar with socket wrench for tightening - some exhaust hangers were tricky to reinstall: they have special positioning knobs that fit into holes in frame, which required to be held in position while tightening - had to buy 18mm socket 523238

2013 Dodge Grand Caravan

What a nightmare! It is definitely not the fault of eTrailer, but Dodge, rather. For reference, I have a 2013 Grand Caravan. When I went to undo the carriage bolts, the body and the frame were holding tension there and they popped away from each other. To put it short, I could no longer even see the threading for the bolts because the inner layer of steel with the threading slipped away and I could not get the bolts back in. It happened on both sides, but the passenger side was the worst. What I ended up doing took me until 48 hours later to figure out. I jammed a crowbar into the slotted hole between the bolt holes on the passenger side and I hit it with the biggest hammer I had until the holes started to line up and I could see the threading again. Then I found a cheater bar to twist the hell out of the crowbar until the holes lined back up to the threading for the bolts. I quickly fumbled through my sockets until I found one the exact size of the other hole between the bolt holes and stuck it up in there to hold the layers of steel lined up. It was a welcome sacrifice. I quickly muscled the hitch up and threaded the bolts in as fast as I could. I considered mashing all of my Dremel bits to open the hole up, but that didn't seem safe. Once that nightmare was over, it was just an exhausting, never ending, 1/8 of a turn ratchet session. Tightening the bolts cinched the hitch up and it popped the socket up inside to rattle forever. I heard a helpful tip from someone to not jack up if you can help it because it can put tension on the steel like I had, but I just did it backed up to and chalked next to little grassy hill. Now the hitch is solid and eTrailer has made my day, week, month, year, probably decade. This thing is gorgeous. I also ordered the trailer wiring kit and that was a lot easier to install. Bread financing also made this purchase very affordable at under $10 a month for wiring and hitch, which is just incredible. I really hope no one has to deal with what I did, but if you do, just cheater bar a crow bar in the slot and stick something in there that's flush to hold it until you can get the hitch up. Good luck. 555933

Everything went as planned with this purchase and I would buy from this company again. Tool not mentioned for installation is a bullpin, (careful with the threads), as the body of the vehicle shifts when removing the existing bolts. Also, packaging could be rethought. 656687

Etraler is an excellent company. I believe this was the third receiver hitch we purchased from them. All fit perfectly. This one was installed on a 2013 Dodge Caravan. I ordered a receiver hitch for my 2009 Chrysler T&C. etrailer sent the first one out and it had very poor welds, so I contacted them and they sent another. Second one had plenty of scratches in the coating, but I sanded and coated it with spray paint. Doing well so far. The hitch itself is doing well for the past year, as we have a 125 LB Harmar wheelchair lift on it 100% of the time. We also carry a 400 LB power wheelchair and the hitch is performing well. The main hitch has not deformed or had any quality issues to date. We added an Airlift air bag suspension to the van to support the weight of the equipment and that has made it so my wife has commented that she loves the setup! Thanks again etrailer! This is my third hitch purchase from you with great results! 642938

This was an easy install. I think it actually took me longer to take off the muffler brackets than to install hitch. Total job was about 45 minutes . I used a rolling floor jack to slide hitch an jacked it up to van while I put bolts on with no help. 642105
