Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

I shopped around for a trailer hitch for my Chevrolet Equinox but wasn’t happy with my search until I came across etrailer.com. We ordered what I needed with the wiring harness and could not have been more satisfied! We watched the installation video, all parts were included and total installation was about 1 hour! We highly recommend etrailer and will order items in the future without a doubt!

Hitch it self is great. Only issue I had was my vehicles threading was so rusted that the bolts would not go in. Re-tapped the holes with the correct size m12x1.75, sprayed some lubricant and boom bolts fit in nicely! Took maybe an hour. With an extra set of hands this could easily be done in 20-40mins as long as it isn’t rusted too bad.

Sturdy hitch. Installation would have been better if I had not read the previous reviews commenting on the chassis bolt installation. The bolts will turn in fine even if they are snug. Lube the bolt and give it time to cool if it becomes hot. It won't snap. However, trying to tap the existing weld nut could leave you removing a broken tap.

Working for trailer and bike rack as expected. No rusting.

The product arrived on time or earlier. Product is made heavy duty with precise measurements. It was a snug fitment which is great for exact alignment with no room for gaps which could cause loosening of bolts later on. Overall, the product meets or exceeds my expectations! etrailer, Draw-tite: Keep drawing in great products!

The product arrived in two days. I liked the custom fit for my vehicle to facilitate installation. I installed the hitch by myself and the process took a total of four hours including the wiring, setup and cleanup. I installed the hitch in my driveway without a jack or jack stands. The included directions were clear and concise. I will be using the hitch to pull a small trailer for home project materials. Mulch, top soil, plants and maybe moving furniture for friends etc. Adding the hitch allows me to not have to ask a friend to use his vehicle and trailer when I have a need. This way I can operate on my own schedule since I retired in Oct. 2017. I would suggest that if one lives in an area where there is frequent snow and the roads are treated with rock salt to be diligent about cleaning out the pre-threaded holes where the hitch mounts. I actually had to run a tap through the threads. The wire brush method did not do the trick. Overall I look ahead to years of service from the hitch and am glad I bought it! Customer service was exceptional (Thanks Paula S) and I would recommend etrailer.com to my friends and family!

Ive used the trailer hitch a few times and everything worked out fine. I dont own a trailer but rent one when I need to. All the hook up and wiring connections fit the rentals.

The hitch looks like it will be great! The installation video is very good at showing you what to do. It does not (perhaps cannot) inform you of the pitfalls you may encounter. Instructions say half hour to install. Maybe if you have a lift and help and have done it before, but it took me several hours.

Comments
The product is working out extremely well. The hitch is performing as expected and I have had no issues. I do not use it for towing yet. I needed it for a bike rack and it works as promised. I am happy with y decision to buy and install it myself. Since originally installing it, I was able to run a steel cable through the tubing giving me tie down access for my kayak guy lines.

Fit perfectly for my 2014 Chevy Equinox. The hardest part of the install was just getting the factory holes cleaned out enough to get this to bolt right up to them. The hitch itself has performed great. I've healed several heavy loads on it with no issues. And the experience of buying from etrailer was great! Immediate follow ups, helpful videos, and a great price.

Comments
Still holding up great. Ive had no issues out of this hitch. If I had a chance to do it over again, Id do it exactly the same. Great product.

I installed this by myself yesterday right after I received it. I used a jack stand as a helper. Everything aligned perfect. Biggest problem was installing the nuts and washers at the receiver. Not much room in there. Secured the washers in position with masking tape, then started the nuts on the bolts, removed tape before securing nuts. Overall, an easy install with no bad surprises. I replaced a full size pickup with this Equinox. Needed something to haul stuff like lumber, building supplies, appliances, etc. I will be towing a small 4x8 trailer to transport items that won't fit in my car. I could have got away with a lighter rated hitch, as my car is only rated to tow a maximum of 1500 pounds. but I like the extra mounts on the hitch.

I received the ordered hitch for my car right on time, but the box had taken a real beating where the flanges that attach to the frame rails had broken through the box Since I am by myself I needed to review the video that eTrailer had on the internet.Very good but I noted that when it came time to attach the hitch to the car the demo shows two people making the install!. wow now what do I do to get the hitch into place without losing the bolts back up inside the frame at the four points that the bolts just hang in place. So, I figured out a way to balance the hitch on a floor jack( see picture) to slowly and careful to position the hitch up in position. Since I was nervous about losing the four free hanging carriage bolts back up inside the frame rail and bumper I left the pull wires on each of the carriage bolts and laced the wires through the hitch in each of the four location. When the hitch was up sufficient to pull the carriage bolts through the hitch four bolt location and then remove each pull wire as I was able to have sufficient bolt thread to attach the conical washers and Hex nuts before removing the floor jack and tighten ing the four carriage bolts to snug the hitch into the final position in order to install the two metric bolt on each outside of the existing weld nuts in the frame rail. All went well except the bolt in the lower position on the frame rail drivers side appears to have hit something in side the frame rail and was not able to be treaded completely into the tight position. When removing the m12x1.75 x 45 bolt the thread showed the roll over of the threads (see picture). Off to Ace's Hardware and a new bolt m12x1.75 x 30 to solve the problem. Over all the hitch fit just as designed and I am very pleased with the produce, and proved to myself that I could do the install by myself! Where there is a will there is a WAY !

Comments
Robert, thank you for your review. Over time grime can get into the weld nuts in your frame and harden over time. This will make it seem like the bolts supplied with your hitch are too large for your weld nuts. The good news is the weld nuts can be easily cleaned out. We do not recommend changing out the hardware. I have attached a link that will help you.

Great price and fast shipping. Hitch fits great and the holes lined up fine. It’s a 2011 Equinox so the only problem we had was on our end. Getting the screw holes cleaned and or retapped. Tube Brush worked great also. Thanks.

Toyota RAV4

I needed a good hitch for my Kuat bike rack and eTrailer made it easy to find and order a compatible one for my new vehicle. (2019 Toyota Rav4) I have installed hitches myself before and this specific installation was the easiest. I was initially worried about needing to drop the muffler per the instructions but following a few other reviews, I saw that wasn't necessary and I ended up being able to install it w/o dropping the muffler. Saved me time and hassle. After a year of use, she is still going strong and getting me out to where I'm going. Thank you etrailer for always supplying top-of-the-line products to us.

The 3111-1base plate for my Saturn fit very well and can't be seen when the arms are removed. Wonderful product, and I am extremely happy it. Installation of the trailer receiver was very easy, fit like a glove, and is very solid. It took about 35 minutes. Instructions were very easy to follow. Great job Etrailer!. And thanks to George from Etrailer for the follow up email. You do a super job.

2016 Chevrolet Equinox

I searched the internet to put a hitch on my 2016 Chevy Equinox and found an instructional video from eTrailer.com where they installed on my exact car. I decided to go with eTrailer.com because they answered all my questions and because of the video-I support businesses that go the extra mile with these videos. Shipping was quick and well tracked, however, the box was flimsy and the one end of the hitch had come out of the box side and the ball mount could have easily come out of that hole during shipping. If I were eTrailer.com I'd charge an extra couple of bucks for more sturdy boxes-people will still buy as eTrailer is a well-trusted brand and this would overcome a lot of the negative reviews you'll see on their site about this shipping issue in their own reviews :-) I installed the hitch by myself (definitely recommend help as two people holding it up to the frame makes attaching 100% easier) in about 45 minutes total (out of the box, read instructions, review video again and installation complete). All hardware went on with no issues. Great quality hitch! I also bought the lesser expensive wiring assembly because most recent equinox's come hitch ready with pre-wired assembly in the left side compartment-snap and done. Picked up a new trailer at Home Depot within days and drove 5 feet and the clacking was horrible. I had always had a welded hitch before buying a hitch that took a ball mount. I really thought something was wrong and when I searched the internet that night it turns out this is very common. However, all you need is some sort of hitch "silencing" device. The number of options will drive you mad but I went with the Roadmaster Quiet Hitch and it did the trick for much less than most of the other options. If I were eTrailer.com I'd have that as one of the RECOMMENDED add-ons and explanation why its super-worthy when customers are buying a hitch. Would have saved me the time and hassle of dealing with it later and the extra shipping charge for buying after the fact when I got free shipping for the other items the first time :-) All in all, I'm super, super happy with my hitch, wiring assembly, ball mount, ball mount locking pin and the hitch silencer. From the time I placed my order to when I received my items, the whole process was pretty easy and quick. After watching the online video on how to install the hitch several times, the day finally came to install it. Had it not been for the snug fit, it definately makes the installation easier to have a second pair of hands! Luckily for me, since the hitch fit quite snuggly onto the frame of my Equinox, I was able to practically wedge it in place and it stayed up. I would say that the most difficult part of this installation was feeding the hardware fro the "front 2 bolts" through the bumper. On my first try on the driver side I lost the hardware 1/2 inside the bumper cavity. At first I paniced and decided to take a break. I proceeded to install the passenger side hardware and took my time and some extra jiggling to get the hardware to pass though. Luckily there was extra "feed" wire and I was able to use a magnet to retrieve the lost hardware. On my second attempt I was succesfull and was able to button up the install. Total install time was less than an hour!! Everything fit up nicely and worked like it should have. I'm impressed with how easy this was in install and how well the hitch fit the vehicle! Practically plug & play!! It really is as easy as it looked on the video! I was concerned at first because the box received a bit of damage from shipping but all the hardware was secured to the hitch and nothing was lost during shipping!! See attached pics. Once installed, this hitch isn't going ANYWHERE!! Very securely mounted and just a solid product! It practically becomes one with the vehicle. It will outlive the vehichle!

Provided bolts for the hitch to frame rail to the factory mounting points did not fit. Had to purchase the correct bolts adding additional cost to the hitch set up. Contacted etrailer and they said to try cleaning out the factory point that the bolts go into, after running a wire brush through I was able to tread a tap in and it was a completely different thread pitch than the provided bolts were. After getting the right bolts I was able to use the hitch and have been happy since.

The trailer hitch that I purchased has been a great addition to our vehicle. I’m not a mechanic, but it was very easy to install. I don’t have a trailer to pull but I do have a number of attachments. I have racks to carry our bikes, our surfboards and our ski’s. I also have a luggage carrier that comes in very handy. We can travel so much more efficiently now in our little car than we ever could before. I trust this hitch because it is strong and stable

The hitch works well and was fairly easy to install. I'm giving it 3 stars because incorrect hardware was shipped with it. 4 bolts were inch vs metric. After 2 weeks and many phone calls with etrailer I went out and bought the right bolts myself. etrailer reimbursed me $10 for the bolts. I blame Draw-Tight, not etrailer, for this. They should know what the correct hardware is, and if the vehicles were built with multiple nut plate sizes they should ship both. Fortunately I didn't need to pull a trailer immediately and had time to mess with it - but I shouldn't have to.

etrailer, The overview buying experience from etrailer was excellent. The product descriptions and videos were exactly what I ordered and helped a lot with installation. I also liked how etrailer took the initiative to send me an email the day the products were delivered. The only reason I didn't rate this product as excellent was because the wire that feed the hex bolts through the bumper was a little short so I had to extend it by taping a clothes hanger to it. Also, the included paper instructions were a little hard to read, because so many different makes and models were crammed into one page of instructions. It wasn't clear on how to install the two hex bolts, and small blocks, that were furthest from the hitch. Overall I was very pleased with the product and recommend it to everyone. 2015 Chevy Equinox AWD Thank you! C.R.

Trailor hitch was easy to install, it is a two person job having to push it up into the space. Tried it by myself thought it would not fit. Longest part of installation was cleaning the hole out. Dirt and rust in groves hard to clean out. It was a perfect fit when done, and saved endcap on hitch to keep it clean. Worth every penny.

Thank you for your review. Because your vehicle is 9 years old it would not surprise me if the weld nuts were rusty or had debris in them. I would use a thread tap like Part # PTW8662. I would also clean the weld nuts with the help of this attached help article:

What you mention is pretty common. In areas where salt and other corrosive chemicals are used on the roads in the winter, corrosion and other goop can get built up in the nuts that are welded up into the frame to receive the M12x1.75 bolts. An easy way to clean those out would be to use a round profile wire brush along with some spray lubricant. The brush on a battery terminal cleaner like # DW00254 works very well. Installation is not all that difficult as you can see in the video and in the instructions I have also linked for you. I estimate it would take a novice installer about 2 hours. A professional could probably have it done in about an hour. If you plan on doing some towing you might be interested...

  • What Parts Are Needed to Tow a Pop-Up Camper with a Jeep Cherokee and Chevy Equinox
I really depends on what you have on your Jeep Cherokee and Chevy Equinox. To tow a trailer that doesn't have brakes you just need a trailer hitch, ball mount (and hitch pin) with a hitch ball, and some wiring to activate the lightning functions on your pop-up camper. Since pop-ups usually don't have brakes you shouldn't need anything more than that. If you can let me know the years of your Cherokee and Equinox as well as if they already have anything from the list mentioned above I...

  • Measurements of Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch 76028 for a 2004 Saturn Vue to Choose a Ball Mount
I went out to the warehouse and took the measurements you are needing on Draw-Tite trailer hitch # 76028. From the top of the center plate that attaches to the vehicle to the top of the receiver opening it is 2-3/4 inches. From the center of the mounting holes on that plate straight out to the center of the pin hole is 2-1/2 inches. I made a picture showing this. On average with this hitch installed the height from the ground to the top of the receiver opening is 14-1/2 inches. Since...

  • Troubleshooting Hitch Install Bolts that Won't Thread In
I am not totally sure what you are trying to install that is having issues with the bolts fitting but if it's a weld nut on vehicle that you can't get hitch hardware to thread into it's rust/dirt in the threads that need to be cleaned out. This is VERY common unfortunately. The quickest and most efficient way to address it is to use a thread tap.

  • Draw-Tite vs. Curt Hitch on a 2013 GMC Terrain
In terms of quality both Draw-Tite and Curt make very reliable trailer hitches and honestly neither is going to wilt under the elements in the northeast U.S. When choosing a hitch what people generally look at is capacity and, like you asked, if modifications are going to be made to their vehicle. If I had a 2013 GMC Terrain, I would go with the Draw-Tite # 76028 over the Curt # 13591. The Draw-Tite has a higher tongue weight capacity and overall towing capacity than the Curt, If...

  • What Sizes Bolts Are Needed To Install a Trailer Hitch On a 2015 Chevrolet Equinox
There are a few different size bolts used to attach a trailer hitch to your 2015 Chevrolet Equinox. In order to make sure you get the correct ones, I would need to know exactly what trailer hitch you have as some do use different lengths for this application. For example, if you have the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 76028 then you will need four 1/2-13x1.50 carriage bolts, four M12x1.75x2.0 hex head bolts, along with several other spacers/nuts/washers/fishwire etc....

  • Installing Draw-Tite Class III Trailer Hitch on 2011 Chevy Equinox
The Draw-Tite Class III Max Frame Receiver Hitch # 76028 referenced in your question is confirmed to fit your Chevy Equinox and will use existing holes in its frame for a bolt-on, no-drill installation. I looked through the installation instructions and for your 2011 there is absolutely no vehicle modifications or trimming that needs to be done. This is indeed a direct, bolt-on fit. This Draw-Tite, Class III hitch is an excellent choice and exactly the hitch I would have recommended....

  • What Size Bolts Come with Trailer Hitch for 2014 GMC Terrain
The hitches like the Draw Tite part # 76028 for your GMC Terrain do come with install bolts that are size ½-13 x 1.50 GR5 and M12x1.75x45 CL10.9. We installed this hitch on a similar 2013 Terrain like yours with the included hardware that you can see at the attached install video link. We do see this problem pretty often and the solution is normally to clean the threads like you've done or use a thread tap to clean them out as the rust is very difficult to clean typically.

  • What is the GCWR of a 2015 Chevy Equinox 4 Cylinder
To determine whether or not you will be able to pull your boat and boat trailer with your 2015 Chevrolet Equinox you will need to do a little bit of calculating. In an online version of the owners manual for your Equinox it says that the GCWR (Gross Combination Weight Rating) for a 4 cylinder is 5,787 lbs for a FWD and 5,952 lbs if it is AWD. The GCWR will include the weight of the fully loaded Equinox, trailer, passengers, cargo, equipment, and conversions. The most ideal weight to...

  • Hitch Recommendation for 2016 Chevy Equinox for Carrying Motorcycle Carrier
For your 2016 Chevy Equinox we do have a hitch that would be rated high enough to carry a motorcycle and carrier. The Draw Tite hitch part # 76028 is a fit for your vehicle and has a 675 lb tongue weight capacity. Then for a motorcycle carrier the part # UF48-979033 would be a great option. It has a 500 lb capacity. I attached a review video for more info as well. You would need to verify that your vehicle has the tongue weight capacity for the carrier as well. That info will be in...

The Draw-Tite Max Frame Hitch Receiver # 76028 has a maximum tongue weight of 675-lbs when used with a weight distribution system as well as when used without one; whether or not a weight distribution system is used does not effect the maximum tongue weight with this hitch. The gross trailer weight is 4500-lbs when used with and without a weight distribution system. The towing capacity for your 2017 Chevy Equinox varies depending on your engine size. The 2.4L engine is rated to tow...

This hitch is confirmed to fit all models of the 2017 GMC Terrain and I have attached an installation video of this hitch installed on a 2016 Terrain with dual exhaust for you to check out. If you let me know what you will be using the hitch for I would be more than happy to make some more recommendations for you.

  • Recommended Towing Package For 2012 GMC Terrain
On your 2012 GMC Terrain, the towing capacity is indeed 1500 lbs maximum. For this vehicle, your camper will need to be less than 1500 lbs when fully loaded for camping. You do not want to operate outside of the manufacturers capacities on this as it could cause damage to your vehicle and create unsafe driving conditions. For a towing system if you don't already have one, I recommend the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # 76028 which is rated...

If your 2012 Equinox has a tow package it will state factory tow package on the bill of materials. According to the owners manual, the 4 cylinder towing capacity is 1500 lbs but your V6 can tow 3500 lbs if your trailer has brakes. Without trailer brakes the max weight is 1000 lbs. If you don't have the towing equipment, I recommend the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # 76028. This is a nice and strong hitch that will allow for many ball mount...
