Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real-life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 2014 Ford Van - Draw-Tite

Today on a 2015 Ford Van, we're going to review and install a class 5, 2" receiver hitch, part number 41945. The hitch itself is created from a really big and really thick tube construction, going all the way across both sides of the frame. If we take a look at the receiver section, itself is actually built a little bit different material than the steel. This is actually a cast steel assembly right here, which makes a lot stronger than a a regular steel stock that you see on other hitches. With this enhanced receiver, you get a reinforced ring right here for your hitch can hold. On traditional hitches, made out of regular steel, over time if you use industrial application, the holes will actually wallow out and you'll get a lot of slop with your receiver play. Same thing applies to the outside edge of your receiver opening as well.

Notice it does set below the bumper and of course just by looking at it, it's all heavy duty construction. Also got some really beefy tight allen loops right here. Looks like it's made from the same material and will handle all your very large safety chains. For your accessories and ball mounts that do not have anti-rail devices, there is precision right here for a smaller hole to use J-pin stabilization pin. Also we take a little glance underneath here. You can see the spare tire works fine with our hitch. Now if we look at the arms of the hitch, it goes pretty far back.

It's bolted to the frame using all pre-existing holes. Of course the hitch comes with all the hardware needed to install onto your van. This has a 10,000 pounds of pulling capacity and a 1,500 tongue weight capacity. When you add a weight distribution assembly to it, the whole pulling goes to 12,000 pounds and your tongue weight actually goes down a little bit to 1,200 pounds. Next we'll go ahead and give you a couple of measurements to help you out in selecting some accessories, such as a ball mount, bicycle rack, or a cargo carrier. From top receiver opening down the ground, it's going to be about 17".

From the center of the hitch pin hole to the bumper, that's going to be about 2 1/4". The hitch pin hole is actually passed the bumper that far. Now I'll go ahead and show you how we installed the hitch. First thing we need to do is go ahead and get our van ready to install the hitch. To do that, we're going to A, take the spare tire down and out of the way and put it up when we're done, or B, like we did here, just loosen it up and scoot it forward just a little bit and tighten it back up. That way all the extra room here we can get. Next I'll point out a inaudible 00:02:22 location for our hardware.

Now our van has a series of holes. We're not using all of them. We're going to use this one and this one and going towards the front, this one right here. Now this is a driver's side. We'll do the same thing on the passenger's side. Let's go ahead and install our hardware, which we'll be these 9/16" bolts and these slap locks. We need three of these sets on each side. Next up, we have some hardware that'll go in between the frame here and the hitch. We'll have this little washer right here that'll go on this bolt. It's a little easier to see before I put the hitch up and then we'll also have a block that goes right here. What I'm going to do that helps make things a little easier, I'm just going to tape these two pieces of hardware to my hitch and then put it up. Leaving it kind of loose so we can put it up there a little bit easier. Then our block. Let's do this on both sides of the hitch. Now at this point, we can go ahead and lift our hitch up into position. It's a good idea to get a extra set of hands to help hold it up because this is rather heavy. We'll go ahead and put it up, we'll align it up with the bolts and I'm going to just for now, put one nut on one side, locking flange nuts right here. Just to support the hitch. Now we'll take our block and our flange nut and we'll get that started and then I can take this guy loose and put my block underneath here. The one bolt that goes forward only gets a spacer block right here. This is our passenger's side. This is going to be identical over on our driver's side. All of our hardware loosely installed, we can go ahead and tighten it down. We'll need a 13/16" wrench and a 7/8" socket. Now we'll go ahead and torque the bolts down as specified in the instructions. That'll finish it for part number 41945 from Draw-Tight, the class 5, 2" Receiver Hitch.

The hitch fit perfectly on my 2006 E-350 XL. The only issue I had was the hardware to attach the hitch. The nuts and bolts required much force just to get to the point where they would draw the hitch to the frame. I backed two off to check for cross threading but the tolerances on the nut and bolt were just too off. I do like the quality of the hitch itself and the solid one piece design. 46510

The product is great and is what was expected. I am very impressed that etrailer.com made the ordering and vehicle confirmation process to my specific vehicle, so easy. The product fit without question to the factory provided and vehicle specific alignment holes for bolting connections. The only reasons I did not give this a 5 star rating is; 1.) the left side frame bolt connection of the hitch to the frame is that the square tubing extended a little too far into the frame mount connection which prevented using a socket wrench and/or air-powered ratchet wrench (and therefore torque wrenches) on this one of six bolted connections to the frame as specified by the vendor directions, and 2.) the website provided pdf directions were different from the "box" provided directions for installation. At least the "box" provided directions was the latest revision of the installation instructions for a DIY and did include specifics regarding "as-needed" parts (which were included in the package). Overall this product and vendor is well worth the investment of your hard earned US dollars for a quality product, exceptional delivery, attention to customer requirements, and complete customer satisfaction. Great job! 587962

Good heavy duty hitch. Used on a 2012 Ford based motor home, based on E-450 frame, to replace a cheap class 3 hitch that was installed by motor home maker. I tow a car and did not want to take any chances, so I upgraded to the class 5 Draw Tite. Although not made for this frame, size was correct and I just had to drill new mounting holes in the frame. Excellant product and I feel much safer towing with this hitch. 192961

Thanks for the follow up, shows really great customer service.Hitch is working out great. Towed our Subaru XV over 7000 miles since I installed the hitch, without any problems at all.Hitch is much strongerbeefier than the cheapie generic hitch that was on the motor home when we purchased it.Didnt buy the Draw Tite to raise the towing capability, but to have a good strong towing hitch that I could depend on for many years.Planning on a 3 month trip next year to Canada, and west to Alaska. Good, strong hitch is necessary, and now something I dont have to worry about. Thanks again

Very well built hitch. Easy install using existing mounting location from factory installed hitch. If your E-Series van was equipped with a factory tow package, the 7-blade harness receptacle will have to be relocated. This hitch mounts further out and tighter to the bottom of the bumper than the factory hitch. 278367

I recently bought a Ford E350 van for towing and camping. I needed to install a trailer hitch. I shopped [another online retailer] as well as local RV stores and then remembered etrailer. I found the hitch I needed at the lowest price and as luck would have it, a Sunday free shipping offer. The hitch arrived quickly and fit perfectly. Another good experience with etrailer. 488712

This hitch was easy to install. I have pulled quite a few heavy loads without any problems. The only thing I would change/fix is the place you put your safety chains are very thick. I get that this is built for making sure the load doesn't go anywhere if something happens with the hitch. Depending on your clasp it may not snap on all the way. 642130

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch And Wiring For 2007 Ford E-150
  • First, the trailer hitch I recommend for your 2007 E-150 is the Draw-Tite Ultra Frame Trailer Hitch, part # 41945. This is a Class V hitch and it has a 2-inch receiver opening. The trailer wiring I recommend is the Hopkins Plug-In Wiring # HM11140495. This just plugs into the connection points located behind the tail lights, and then you run the hot lead wire to the positive battery. The # HM11140495 is a 4-way trailer connector so if you need a 7-way trailer connector you will...

  • Trailer Hitch and 7-Way Wiring Recommendation for 2009 Ford E-350
  • The Draw Tite hitch # 41945 thtat you referenced is the correct hitch for your 2009 Ford E-350. For trailer wiring you'd need to start with a 4-way like the # 118551 which does require a wire ran to the vehicle battery. Not all vehicles can handle the additional amperage draw of the trailer taillights on the vehicle taillight circuits. Those vehicles need setup that draws power from the battery. Some vehicles have higher rated circuits that can handle this, and others need to have the power...

I recommend the Draw-Tite Ultra Frame # 41945 which is Class V rated and has a maximum gross trailer weight capacity of 10,000 lbs and maximum tongue weight capacity of 1,500 lbs; this is the highest-rated hitch available for your vehicle....

This is a Class V hitch with a 2" receiver tube opening. It also comes with a lifetime warranty. In regards to use an adapter like a hitch extender, the tongue weight and gross trailer weight capacity of the hitch/vehicle will be reduced by 50%. • Trailer Hitch and Wiring for a 2013 Ford E-350 Van
  • All of the trailer hitches we carry for your 2013 Ford E-350 van use 6 bolts to attach to the vehicle frame. The hitches are given their ratings based on several factors, including how they mount to the vehicle so having 6 bolts to mount a hitch does not diminish its rated capacity. But if you want an 8-bolt hitch none of the options we have use more than 6. The most popular hitch for your van is Curt hitch # 14055 rated for 1,000 pounds tongue weight and 10,000 pounds gross trailer...

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch for 2003 Ford E450 Chassis
  • The Draw-Tite Ultra Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver w/ Cast Center # 41945 is a confirmed fit for 2000 - 2003 Ford Van Full Size and may fit your chassis. I recommend checking the dimensions of the frame holes as this hitch's mounting holes are 38-1/2 inches on center. This hitch is rated for 1,500 lb tongue weight and 10,000 lbs towing. This hitch will be dependent on the chassis and will not work if it has been extended. Your alternative if you don't have these holes is the Multi-Fit...

Draw-Tite offers two Class IV and V hitches, parts # 41906 and # 41945, that offer, respectively, 1000-lbs and 1500-lbs of tongue weight capacity. Both are confirmed by my contact at Draw-Tite to fit the 2012 Ford E-350 van with standard bumper. Both hitches have a 2-inch receiver tube that will sit below the top of the frame rails a distance of approximately...

  • Which Trailer Hitch and Wiring Harness Do I Need for My 2014 Ford E-350 Super Duty Van
  • I suggest the Draw-Tite Ultra Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # 41945 for your 2014 E-350. This will be a good fit on your van and is rated for any trailer your van can pull. You can pair the receiver with an adjustable B&W Tow & Stow 3-Ball Mount # BWTS10049B. I have included a Help Article on choosing the correct ball mount. You will also need a Draw-Tite Pin and Clip # PC3. There is an installation video of the hitch receiver on a 2012 Ford Van which will be very similar to yours. Since...

  • Will a Trailer Hitch Fit a 2006 Ford E-350 Van with a Knaphiede KUV Body
  • If the utility body on your 2006 Ford E-350 van chassis does not sit any lower relative to the frame than on the regular van models you can install a trailer hitch. For example Curt trailer hitch # 14055 will work as long as the bolt holes on the frame where the hitch installs are 38-5/8 inches apart on center. I have linked a video showing an example installation for you. The same goes for hitch # 41945 and # 41906 and a few other hitches for your year E-350 (see link). If the...

  • Recommended Class V Trailer Hitch Receiver For 2002 Ford E-350 Van
  • I recommend the Draw-Tite Ultra Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver w/ Cast Center Class V - 2", # 41945, for your 2002 Ford E350 Van. It will give you the highest tongue weight rating by 1/3. If you don't already have wiring I recommend the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector, # 118344. This can be used with the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller - 7-Way RV and 4-Way Flat - 10 Gauge Wires, # ETBC7 to give you the ability to add a...

  • Availability of Rear Hitch for 2014 Ford E350 Van
  • We do offer 2-inch rear-mount hitch receivers (and front-mount hitches too, by the way) that will fit your 2014 Ford E350 van. You can see these by clicking on the link provided. These 2-inch hitches are offered in varying capacities and carry Class III, Class IV and Class V ratings. Note also that some are no-drill installations, such as Curt Class IV # 14055. The highest-rated hitch option comes from Draw-Tite, their Ultra Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # 41945, which is a no-drill install...

  • Hitch Availability for a 2001 Ford E450 Shuttle Bus
  • I have a Class V hitch that would fit your 2001 E450 Chassis, part # 41945. However, due to the large overhang of your vehicle because of the shuttle bus portion of the vehicle it is kind of hard for me to say for certain. The best recommendation I can make would be for you to check out the install video and instructions and compare them to the rear frame of your vehicle to see if they would be compatible.

  • Why is Tongue Weight Rating Higher for Draw-Tite Hitch Receiver when not Using Weight Distribution
  • The Draw-Tite Ultra Frame # 41945 does have a lower tongue weight rating when used with a weight distribution system. You're correct that it's normally the other way around. I reached out to Draw-Tite for a specific reason but they couldn't provide me with one. The vague answer is basically that when tested there was something that made an impact to the hitch receiver's tongue weight capacity.

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch Receiver for 2002 Ford E450 Chassis
  • The trailer hitches you mentioned are all confirmed fits for your 2002 Ford E450. I recommend the Draw-Tite Ultra Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver w/ Cast Center # 41945 due to the strength of the hitch and the tongue weight rating. This hitch has a rating of 1500 lbs for tongue weight, but you will need to check what your vehicle is rated for to confirm your limit. This will give you a 2 inch receiver opening for use with most accessories and ball mounts.

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for a 2002 Ford E-450 RV Cutaway Motor Home
  • The only hitch that is going to work for a 2002 Ford E-450 RV cutaway model is a multi-fit motor home hitch like # 13703. Measure the outside to outside frame distance. If it is 22 to 72 inches wide you can use this hitch. I have included a link to the installation instructions for you to view.

  • Will Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch 41945 Clear the Rear Bumper on a 2011 Ford E-250 Van
  • We have not had the chance to install trailer hitch # 41945 on a vehicle so we do not have a video or pictures. But there is a diagram in the isntructions, linked for you, that shows the hitch installed in the proper position. The pin hole is nearly flush with the rear bumper. If you plan on doing some towing, the most popular ball mount for this hitch is # 40330 and you can use pin and clip # PC3. For a 2 inch ball use # A-90 and for a 2-5/16 inch ball use # 19286. • Trailer Wiring Harness Needed for a 2014 Ford E-150 Without Tow Package
  • If you do not have any connectors at the rear of your 2014 Ford E-150 then you will need the T-One # 118551 for basic trailer light functions. From here you will need to see what kind of connector you have on your trailer for the reverse lights. For a 5-Way connector use part # 47515 and connect the blue wire to your reverse light function. If your trailer has a 7-Way then you need to install the Adapter # 37185 or the Universal Wiring Kit # ETBC7 which comes with enough wiring and...

  • Ball Mount Recommendation for Draw Tite Hitch # 41945 Towing 18 inch Tall Coupler Trailer Height
  • When we installed the Draw Tite hitch part # 41945 on a similar Ford Van as your 2005 model we found the distance from the top of the hitch opening to the ground to be 16-3/4 inches. So if your coupler height is 18 inches that means you'd want a rise of right at 1-1/4 inches. Which the closest to that we offer is # C45270 which has a 2 inch rise and would work well. For a 2-5/16 inch ball you'd want the part # 63847 or for a 2 inch ball part # A-90. The trailer tongue weight will pull...

  • Recommended Fat-Bike Bike Rack for a 2005 Ford Econoline Van
  • I recommend using the Swagman Escapee # S64693 to carry your fat bike that has 5 inch tires with your 2005 Ford Econoline Van. The Escapee is a very nice bike rack that is packed with features. It can fit both 2 inch hitch receivers, like the Draw-Tite # 41945 which is a fit for your Van, as well as accommodate tires up to 5 inches wide and up to 2 bikes that weigh 60 lbs each. Since it is a wheel-only mount it is compatible with just about every bike frame-type out there unless it has...

  • High Capacity Hitch for Thor 31-Foot Class C Motorhome Built on 2002 Ford E450 Chassis
  • We do offer options in both Class IV and Class V hitches, shown on the linked page, that fit the base Ford E450. I contacted Thor Motorcoach to try to confirm the net towing capacity of your 2002 Class C built on a 2002 Ford E450 cab and chassis, but since there are several series and multiple models of Class C made on that same platform Thor needs the VIN in order to confirm the actual net towing capacity of any given vehicle. If that distance is 38-5/8 inches then you can install Draw-Tite trailer hitch # 41945. This is a Class IV/V hitch with a 2 inch receiver.
