This fully welded, corrosion-resistant vehicle trailer hitch receiver is perfect for your light-duty towing needs. Draw-Tite's Tested Tough guarantee ensures that this hitch exceeds industry standards. Drawbar sold separately.
Some Escape models beginning with the 2010 model year have a vibration dampener installed on the tailpipe which interferes with the installation of this hitch. The dampener can be removed and left off or welded onto the other side of the exhaust pipe.
Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.
Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.
In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Video of Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class II - 1-1/4"
Videos are provided As a guide only. Refer To manufacturer
installation instructions And specs For complete information.
Today on our 2012 Ford Escape we're going to take a look at and show you how to install the Draw-Tite custom fit class two trailer hitch receiver. This is an 1-1/4" opening. It's part number is 36501. Here's what the hitch is going to look like once you get it installed on your vehicle. It's got that square tube design so it's nice and symmetrical going across, small plate here that protects the underside of the vehicle. With this being a class two you'll have a lot of different accessories that are going to work out great for this hitch: cargo carriers, bike racks, ball mounts of course. They're all going to work fine.
You've got the extra collar here which which works great with a hitch immobilizer. Standard class two pin; it's going to slide through. It does come with the pin so you won't have to worry about picking that up. The hitch itself is going to offer a 300 pound gross tongue weight rating or a 3,500 pound gross trailer weight rating. Now of course you'll look into the Escape's manual, determine what its weight limits are, and off of whichever of those are the lowest. Now the hitch offers a really easy installation.
It's just a matter of getting four bolts up into place and then putting a washer and a nut on there. Now I'm going to give you just a couple of measurements that will help you in selecting your bike rack, ball mount, or maybe cargo carrier. From the ground to the inside edge of the top of our receiver tube opening we've got about 17-1/4". From the center of our hitch pinhole to the outermost edge of our bumper it's about even. Let's take a look at at our mounting locations so you can see that we're going to have two here on the inside of the passenger frame rail and two here on the driver side in the exact same spot right inside the frame rail here. We'll be getting to those from the back of the frame rail. There's going to be an opening here and an opening here to allow us to slide our bolts up and in. Here on the driver side we're going to start with the rearmost hole.
We'll place our fish wire in the hole and then direct it back towards the rear of the vehicle. You can see it's going to pop out right out of that location we pointed out. Now we want to slide our spacer block on, and we'll follow that up by threading on our 1/2" carriage bolt. Now we'll feed these up into our hole separately. There's the block; get it up and in and then we'll follow that up with our bolt.
Now let's just let that hang out for now and we'll go to the passenger side where we'll do the same thing. We'll give this the same treatment. It will get the spacer block and the carriage bolt. Get the block up and in, then our bolt. Now we're ready to grab our hitch. Now when putting it up into position it's a good idea to get you an extra set of hands to help you hold it. Then we'll feed our fish wire from the outside of our hitch towards the inside and then just use that to guide us up to our hole location. Once we get there let's pull through our bolt and our block just like that. Now that will support the hitch for us easily. I wouldn't rely on it 100% but . Then we can remove our fish wire here. Now hang onto your fish wire. You'll need it for your other bolt as well. Then we're going to place on a conical tooth washer. The teeth of the washer are going to face in towards the hitch. Then we'll thread on one of the hex bolts. Now let's go over to our passenger side and do the same thing. Those are our front two bolts. That will hold the hitch into position while we get our next set of bolts going. We'll do just the same thing we did. Pull our fish wire out towards the back here. Then we'll add our spacer and our bolt. Just like before, feed them in separately. Then we can draw them on through using our pull wire. Then we'll head on over to the driver side and do that one more time for our final bolt. With those snugged down we can take a quick look and be sure our hitch is centered. Now we'll go through and tighten each of our nuts down. Then we'll grab our torque wrench and torque them down to specifications. That specification you can find in your instruction manual. With everything secure, that's going to complete today's installation of the Draw-Tite custom fit class two trailer hitch, part number 36501, on our 2012 Ford Escape. .

2011 Escape Bike hitch and wiring harness. Videos were extremely helpful. Installed yesterday after a week in bed with a virus. It helps when your neighbor has a body shop (tools) and can come haul you out from under the car if he doesn't see any movement in 15 min. Have some extra wire ties handy and you will be ok. I put two coats of etching primer and 2 more coats of white automotive enamel on my hitch so it would match my body paint. If you are working by yourself , do the front two bolts first , lift the hitch ( w/ draw bar in) up on a bucket with some shims until the back holes line up then cinch them up. This is my second e-trailer hitch I,ve done, won't go anywhere else. 85618

Perfect Class II for my needs This hitch fit perfectly and installed in about a half-hour. The only tool needed was a (torque) wrench. The installation was a breeze, especially after watching the online video at etrailer.com (the printed instructions and illustrations are a little hard to follow). This was the perfect basic Class II hitch for my Ford Escape Hybrid. With its limited towing capacity, I didn't need anything stronger or fancier. It appears to be more than adequate for my occasional light towing needs. The included drawbar (ball mount), pin, clip, and hitch cover were a real bonus, and made this selection an even greater bargain. All I needed to add was a ball and wiring. Shipping from etrailer.com was fast and efficient, although the box the hitch was packed in wasn't up to the task -- one end of the hitch had broken through the box and was sticking out. Fortunately, the only damage was a tiny paint chip -- no big deal. Otherwise, the price and service were unbeatable. 3531

This is a nice hitch, planning on using it for a bike rack and a little come-behind trailer. My ordering experience was excellent: shortly after the initial order, I realized I needed to change something. Called and it was taken care of quickly and easily. Great customer service! It also shipped and arrived quickly. Installation was also straightforward on my 2010 Escape. It took me slightly over an hour. You will want a second pair of hands to lift and hold while youre fitting the bolts if youre solo, Id suggest planning out your propping method because the hitch is fairly heavy. The fish wires work very well. However, the bolt head would not fit through the access hole on my Escape. Once I realized I could put it through head-first and then it would reverse itself while in the shaft, it was good. Also I needed a 3/4 socket not 7/8 as the instructions said. But hey, its done and looks good. Cant wait to tow something! 77022

Yes, I received the hitch a few days ago, and actually, I just had it installed this morning by my mechanic. So far, it's working great. I've attached two pictures. I appreciate the quality product and great customer service. Have a good day! 98130

Tow bar seems solid and well built. Installed in 23 minutes on Tribute and several minutes of that were looking for deep socket. Wiring kit installed in just over an hour just like video and most of that time was spent attaching battery wire to undercarriage. Whole unit solid and lights very bright. Could not be happier, especially since local installer quoted me $426 and it took me less than 90 minutes for under $xxx parts and I kept the $170/hour labor! 316885

Received order really fast with normal shipping. Package came in undamaged and in great shape. Watched install video on the etrailer website prior to ordering and when it came in I took out all the parts and installed in 25 minutes without even looking at any other instructions!! Very easy install, did it by myself. Looks great on the vehicle as well. 137088
Etrailer.com was fantastic to deal with. Ordering was easy and fast. The order tracking provided was great and again easy. The product itself a drawtite hitch for my Ford Escape was as fast and easy with the information provided by etrailer. Took me less then 40 minutes for hitch and the wiring was about 50 minutes. Great job etrailer.com 20315

Product arrived in excellent shape and was easy to install. The only negative I experienced was that the box was completely torn open with the mounting arms of the hitch exposed. The shipping box was only sized to protect the main body of the hitch and not the mounting arms. Overall great experience with etrailer. 148303

Quick & Easy When we received the package from UPS the hitch had broke through the box and about 2 inches was hanging out. Some of the paint was chipped off and scratched. The parts and everything inside the box were fine though. It took about 30 minutes to install - very quick and easy for one person. 5533

Great product and Great Dealer I think this is the 5th. Hidden Hitch I've bought from etrailer. All have been priced right, extremely rapid shipping, and easy to install. I'm feel sure I am going to get just as good of service from this latest one as I've gotten from all the others. Thanks 3296

Product installed easily with no hassles. the vibration dampener on my 2010 Escape was not in the way, but check to make sure it is not below the mount holes before you purchase. Also keep the bolts very loosely tightened until both sides are mounted (it'll save you 15 minutes of swearing). 143777
It was simple to install and I save a metric ton of money. Could it be better???? etrailer was excellent, the hitch was back ordered but I needed the bike rack for my other vehicle. etrailer actually split the order so that I could go on my weekend trip!!!! Thanks and kudos. 255970
Great Experience. My son and I had it installed on my 2010 Escape Hybrid in 20 minutes and that included looking for the right socket for the torque wrench. Ordering was easy and delivery quick. Just in time to put my new hitch and wire to work. Thank you 14229

A one half hour install by myself thanks to the great video! My only problem was that I didn't have a deep socket for my torque wrench but got by with the closest metric size. Delivery was one day earlier than projected too. 104880

I ordered a Trailer Hitch and the Wiring for my 2012 Escape. The instructions, videos and especially confidence building phone contacts [especially with the wiring] made this a very pleasant experience for an amateur installer. 53079

The service was quite good. My original order couldn't be fulfilled as specified as the item was out of stock. I was contacted and provided with an alternative that shipped within the time frame I needed. 143108
Good prouduct, easily assembled, but was mostly out of the box when it arrived. Packaging is in need of improvement. I wasn't missing anything, I don't think, but it did make you wonder what wasn't there. 71232

Installed on Escape Hybrid '09 without issue. When backing, back-up sensor does not sound when nothing is attached to the hitch receiver, which was a relief. Hitch receiver is solid. No complaints. 277468
