Video Transcript for In-Depth Review of the 2-5/16" Hitch Ball

Today we're going to be taking a look at part number C40035. This is the 2 and 5/16th-inch hitch ball with the 1-inch platform. The high-rise design is going to let you easily match the hitch ball to the trailer height. The trailer hitch ball's going to sit an extra inch above the ball mount platform. This unit's going to feature fine threads that are going to provide an exceptionally tight, strong grip. It's made from a steel construction with a nickel chrome finish to help resist rust and corrosion. The lock washer and the nut are both included. When installing this, the instructions indicate that this unit needs to be tightened to 450 foot-pounds of torque.

The ball diameter's going to be 2 and 5/16ths of an inch. Take a measurement of the shank length. That's going to give us a measurement of 2 and 5/8ths of an inch long. The shank diameter is going to give us a measurement of and inch and a quarter. The ball rise platform's going to measure right at 1 inch, and then the height from the bottom of the base, this point here, to the top of the hitch ball's going to measure 3 and 11/16ths of an inch.

The hitch ball's going to feature a capacity of 10,000 pounds. That's going to do it for our review of part number C40035. This is the Curt 2 and 5/16th-inch hitch ball with the 1-inch ball rise platform.

  • Is There High Rise 2-5/16 inch Hitch Ball that Fits 1 inch Diameter Ball Hole
Hey Craig, since the 1 inch diameter ball mount shank is used on lower capacity ball mounts there aren't any 2-5/16 inch hitch balls made for that size hole that also have a 1 inch rise built into them. It's basically such a rare request for that setup there aren't any options. So that means you have a coupler options. You could replace your current ball mount with one that has 1 inch more rise in it so that you can use a standard hitch ball or you could replace your ball mount with one...

  • Where Can I Get A Torque Wrench That Goes Up To 450 ft/lbs?
Honestly, Joah, if I were you I would try to find a shop in your area that has a heavy-duty torque wrench and breaker bar. 450 ft/lbs is quite a bit and most typical torque wrenched don't got that high. Sometimes if you can find a shop that has one they will let you use it for free, or there might be a hardware store near you that rents them out. You could probably buy one online but they can be expensive so that might not be practical if you only intend to use it once.

  • High-Rise Hitch Ball
We have just what you need. For a 1-1/4-inch shank diameter we do offer two high-rise 2-5/16-inch hitch balls which can be seen on the link at right. These offer a choice of 1- or 2-inches of rise. Both # C40036 and # C40035 carry a 10K capacity. For 2-inch balls you can use either # C40034 or # C40033 along with bushing # 58184.

  • Is There a 2-5/16" Hitch Ball with 1" Diameter Shank and Built In Rise
I do have an option for you but none of our 2-5/16" hitch balls with 1" diameter shank have a built-in rise with the exception of the Curt RockerBall Shock Absorbing 2-5/16" Hitch Ball part # C82KR which has around a 1-1/2" rise due to the rocker mechanism. I have attached a full list of our 2-5/16" hitch balls with 1" diameter shank below. The 2-5/16" Hitch Ball part # C40035 only comes with a 1-1/4" diameter shank.

  • What is Tallest Gooseneck Ball with 1-1/4 inch Diameter Shank
Hey Tim, the best option we have is the Curt gooseneck ball part # C40036 which has a 1-1/4 inch diameter shank like you need, has a 2 inch rise built into it, and also measures 4-11/16 inches tall from where it would mount.

  • 2 inch Ball Mount Solution Where Ball Platform is Same Height as Hitch Pin
Hey Robert, so the way we determine rise and drop is basically what you described. Zero would be the same height as the top of the trailer hitch opening. What you are looking for we would call a drop of 1 inch. Unfortunately we don't have that exact rise/drop. So your best option would still be what we list as a zero drop like the part # AMSC2 with a high rise ball part # C40033 which would put the ball height right where you are wanting. This is a 2 inch ball. If instead you need a 2-5/16...

  • 2-5/16 Inch Hitch Ball with Long Shank and 2 Inch Rise
The closest ball we have to your specifications is # C40036. It is a 2-5/16 inch ball with a 2 inch rise but the shank is 2-5/8 inches long. The overall height would be almost exactly 7 inches.

  • Availability Of 2-5/6 Hitch Balls With Rise
I have another option for you, but you are correct that all of the 2-5/6" hitch balls with a rise use a shank that is larger than 1". Instead I recommend using the 2-5/16" Hitch Ball - 1" Rise - 1-1/4" Diameter x 2-5/8" Long Shank - 10,000 lbs # C40035 or 2" Rise # C40036. Both of these options use a 1-1/4" shank so you would need to replace your current ball mount. I included a link to all of our ball mounts that use a 1-1/4" shank, and a link to a helpful article that goes over how...

  • Available 2-5/16-Inch High-Rise Hitch Balls
We carry many types and sizes of hitch ball that are displayed on the page I linked for you. Near the top of the page are our high-rise balls. We do have 2-5/16-inch high-rise balls such as # C40036 (2-inch rise) and # C40035 (1-inch rise) but both of these have a shank diameter of 1-1/4-inches and shank length of 2-5/8-inches. I linked a second page that shows the three 2-5/16-inch high-rise balls that have a 1-1/2-inch shank diameter; all have a shank length of 2-3/4-inches. The nearest...

  • Availability of a Forged Ball Mount with a 6 inch Rise
Out of the ball mounts we carry that the manufacturers have labeled as being forged, the closest one to a 6 inch rise is going to be # 40332, that you have referenced. To get that additional inch, you could use a ball with a 1 inch rise like # C40035. This is a 2-5/16 inch diameter ball with a 1 inch rise and 10,000 pound capacity.

  • 10k Rated Ball Mount Recommendation with 4 inches of Drop
Before you pick out a ball mount you will need to make sure you know exactly how much rise/drop you would need for your trailer to be towed level. I attached a help article that details exactly how to do this. But for a 3 inch drop with a 10k rating you would want the Ball Mount # DT40201. This ball mount has 4 inches of drop, so to make up the additional inch you would want the high rise hitch ball part # C40035 which is a 2-5/16 inch ball with a 10k rating.
