How to Tow a Trailer Level

Question:

I have a curt hitch for a small car It does not have a square receiver mount it has a straight bar that you directly mount the ball on. I built a harborfreight trailer and to get it level I should probably raise the height of the ball. This is my first setup so I dont know a lot about it but I was looking at the extended long shank ball mounts I am not sure they are what I am looking for or how to use one if they are. Do you install washers to raise the height? I am not sure exactly how high I will need to raise the ball. maybe up to 4 inches but maybe less. I have not attached the trailer yet but I just finished building it and measured the height and they are not the same. I probably could weld a receiver on this thing but not right now because I dont have the right power outlet for my mig welder and I would have to run a wire from my circuit breaker.. its a big job.. What is your suggestion? Thank You very much.

You have the right mindset, you do want to have the height of your hitch ball so that it allows the trailer to be towed as level as possible. To do that check out the link I attached.

The best option I could provide would be for you to remove the fixed hitch from the vehicle you have an install a custom hitch for the vehicle that will allow you to use a ball mount. Doing this will allow you to select the correct rise/drop ball mount you need so that you can tow your trailer level.
