  This bike rack will work as long as your 2004 Volkswagen Touareg has at least a Class III trailer hitch and a drawbar that has at least 3" of space. The trailer hitch's tongue weight capacity is reduced by the weight of the bike rack and the bikes when towing. If your ball mount does not have the required clearance you could use ball mounts, # 2736 or # D-28. • Will Drawbar Fit 2009 Chevy Traverse?
  I went out to the warehouse and measured ball mount # AMSC2. It is 4.75 inches from the pin hole to the weld. We do have drawbars that could clear the bumper and license plate face. For example, drawbar # 2736 is 7 inches from the pin hole to the weld. This may give you the clearance you need.
