Time-Delayed Braking

What is time-delayed braking

The Pro Series Pilot comes equipped with time-delayed braking. Every time you apply the brakes in your vehicle, a signal is sent - via the brake switch - to the Pilot. The controller then sends power out to your trailer brakes to activate them with an intensity set by you, at a rate determined by you. The amount of braking power (output) can be adjusted to suit your preference, the road conditions, the type of trailer, and the weight of your load. To determine which levels are best for your application, test your towing setup and choose what feels right.

Built-In Controls for Adjustable Power

Pro Series Pilot Controls and Components

Braking output is the maximum amount of power that will be applied to your trailer's brakes. How much braking output you need is determined by the weight of your trailer; a heavier trailer will need more power to bring it to a stop. You want to set the braking output as high as you can without locking up the brakes. Once you've set up the brake controller the first time, you shouldn't need to adjust the settings until the trailer load changes, you switch trailers, or road conditions change. Use the thumbwheel on the side to change the braking output level. The output setting will appear as a number on the digital display, with a higher number indicating higher braking power.

Manual Override

The Pro Series Pilot keeps the manual override within easy reach on the front of the module, great for stopping sway or controlling your trailer's momentum in emergencies. Push the slide-bar to activate the trailer's brakes and brake lights without you having to apply the brakes on your tow vehicle, perfect for limiting trailer movement while you're cruising.

Quick, Simple Installation

Because inertia plays no role in the functioning of this controller, you do not have to mount the unit at any particular angle. Your mounting options are limitless, so long as you can still easily access the controller and manual override. The Pilot is especially flexible; its microprocessor allows the controller to even be mounted upside down, and it will still give you a readable display. The Pilot can go wherever you need it. Plus, the included wiring adapter eases installation overall. The custom connector end plugs into the port on your vehicle and the other end plugs into the controller.

Installation Accessories

You can use etrailer's exclusive 7- and 4-way brake control installation kit (ETBC7 - sold separately) if you don't already have a 7-way plug at the back of your vehicle.

Video Transcript for Review of Tekonsha Trailer Brake Controller - Brake Control Adapter - TK22FR

Jeff Hello, everybody. This is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a look at the Tekonsha plug-in wiring adapter for electric brake controllers. Now, this is a custom-fit part. It is designed to fit the 2004 and newer Audi Q5, Q7 and SQ5 vehicles, and the Porsche Cayenne vehicles. Also works on the 2004 to 2017 Volkswagen Touareg, and the 2018 and newer Volkswagen Atlas.

Now, what I do recommend is when these fitting cust, when they are a custom-fit part, I do recommend for you to go to our website, use the fit guide, put in your year and model vehicle, and it'll show if this will work for your application. Now, many vehicles are now pre-wired with a brake control connector that's under the dash. And this harness here will make your vehicle with the Tekonsha and Draw-Tite brake controllers. The custom connector end right here, let me just zoom in so you can see. This custom connector end will plug in to the built-in port beneath the dash on your vehicle.

The other end right here is designed to plug into the back of your electric brake controller. Now, this part is compatible with time-delayed brake controllers, the Draw-Tite Activator I, Draw-Tite Activator II, Draw-Tite Activator III, and the Tekonsha PowerTrac. And it is also compatible with the proportional brake controllers, the Tekonsha Prodigy, Tekonsha P2, Tekonsha P3, Tekonsha Primus IQ, and the Tekonsha Voyager. Total length on this harness is 30 inches. Does come with a nice set of directions that will describe how this plugs in, and where you can usually find your port on your vehicle.

But that should do it for the review on the Tekonsha plug-in wiring adapter for electric brake controllers..

by:

good value but the swivel mount being optional should be made more clear

by:

Vehicle had trailer package, so easy plug and play hook up. Really reduced installation time. Plenty of length for my application.

by:

The Tekonsha package says "2018-Current Atlas (all models)". I have a 2023 Atlas Cross Sport & it DOESN'T fit. This was a bummer because I paid for expedited shipping, and now to return it - I'll be losing even more money since I have to pay for the return label. The product itself feels quality, so I cant knock it for that. If you have a 2023 & newer VW Atlas please be aware this won't fit even though Tekonsha says it will.

etrailer always does a great job with shipping, so I did receive the package very quickly.

by:

Perfect fit at both ends.

by:

Fit a 2015 Audi Q7 TDI and seems well made. Good connectors and crimps on wiring.

by:

Great deal

by:

easy to use brake box

by:

I replaced my old VW Atlas with a newer one (with tow package). So I needed a way to connect my old Takonsha P3. I bought the above harness, but when I went to install it, I realized the in car harness was micro and the one from etrailer was normal sized. So I couldn’t plug in the connector. I ended up having to cut the VW and etrailer cables, connect, and solder them. I mean, I haven’t seen the actual correct fitting cable and this one made life at least a bit easier. Just be aware, that if you have a micro connected VW side, you will still have to cut. I’ve bought many things from etrailer and they are great.

by:

Great product

by:

Once again, etrailer came through for me. Needed parts to share a brake controller to 2 two vehicles. All came as expected and did the trick. 4-5 different transactions now, and always a good experience. Thanks etrailer!

by:

Super easy to use! Vehicle chassis connector on my 2015 Cayenne Diesel was up higher than expected - had to look up about a foot above the dead pedal area, also above the OBD2 connector - but it was there and easily accessible. Harness was long enough to allow flexibility in mounting the controller in a good location.

by:

Great brakebox

by:

great brake box

Sells out fast

by:

I'm disipointed that the shipment was not deleivered in a timely maner. I requested expided shipping when ordered but was not informed that it is at your descrestion when it actually ships. If I was informed that shipping was going to be delayed I would have canceled the order. The parts did arrive after we left on our adventure. I had my son overnight to us at a cost of $[XX]. This does not make me a happy camper. Your org has failed me. I think you could do better.

by:

I was not sure if this would work, but it worked great.
I will recommend this to all Touareg owners that get a P3.
I am going to put my Happy Camper hat back on.

by:

Thanks for the fastest shipping and awesome pricing. I've used these brake controller for years. Great product and great pricing. Thanks etrailer!

by:

I needed a trailer harness for a Porsche and etrailer had it in stock. The sales associate was very knowledgeable and friendly. I got the harness in just a few days. Thanks!

by:

Necessary to plug and play with brake c ontroller.

by:

Works fine. So kind of a neutral review, because it simply does what it's supposed to do.

by:

Plug and play with factory trailer harn ess

by:

Great brake box. Does the job at a fair price

by:

Excellent product eliminates the need to track down and cut any existing wires. This is a must have

by:

This was a harness for a 2021 Porsche Cayenne. It is very hard to find support and info for this particular car due to its rarity. I had trouble finding the part, and then trouble locating the place to plug it in. Two different people at etrailer went above and beyond to help me. Can't say enough about that. In the end, it worked fine. Contrary to the written instructions, the connection is under the dead pedal in the footwell, not to the right of the steering column as the instructions say.

The troubleshooting guide for the Hopkins Impulse trailer brake controller does not list an error code "OE" but if the unit displays a flashing code "SC" this indicates a short on the brake output circuit or a defective brake magnet, which is unlikely on a new Aliner. Those error codes can sometimes be difficult to read. My Hopkins contact said much older versions has error codes E1, E2, E3 but not OE. • What Brake Controller is Better, Tekonsha Prodigy P2 or Pro Series Pilot for 2019 GMC Terrain?
Hello Patrick, Between the 2 brake controllers that you mentioned I would go with the the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 # 90885. The main reason is because the Pro Series Pilot # 80550 is time delayed, so there will be a delay from the time that you hit your brakes in your GMC for the brakes to be applied on the trailer. Honestly, I am surprised that they still make the time delayed brake controllers. The Tekonsha P2 # 90885 is a proportional brake control, meaning that it works at the same time...

The '.C' means that there is a trailer connected and isn't an indicator of a problem. Are you by chance using an adapter in the 7-way connector to change it to a 6-way? If you are, there are two common ways to wire that connector. One uses the center pin as the brake output, the other use the center pin as the constant 12-volt power supply to the trailer. • Do I Need A LED Bulb Out Adapter When Using A Brake Controller On my 2012 Porsche Cayenne?
The Curt 7-Way Trailer Adapter # C57003 is only needed for trailers that have LED taillights. There are internal resistors that will make the computer on your 2012 Porsche Cayenne sense that it is connected to a trailer as the LED light do not draw as much power as incandescent bulbs. If your trailer does not have LED taillights then the adapter is not needed. I recommend using the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller # 90195 with the Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter # TK22FR on...

  • Finding Stoplight Circuit on 2018 Volkswagen Atlas for Brake Controller Install
Your 2018 Volkswagen Atlas has factory brake controller wiring that you can use the part # TK22FR to attach to which has the stoplight circuit covered.
