Question:
Just installed a Reese pilot brake controller on my 2010 silverado. Was working fine showing red light when I engaged the brake. Hooked to a camper and now all the controller does is flash the little red dot between the numbers.. It has never showed any numbers yet. All my lights and signals work on the camper so I feel like the connection is good. Please help

Your Pilot 2-6 Brake Electronic Brake Controller - Time Delayed # 80550 is not getting proper power to the unit. I reached out to my contact at Cequent who makes that controller and they said that the flashing dot means the black wire is not getting enough power. I recommend you trace that wire and check its voltage with a multi-meter like # PT89ZR. When it is getting the 12 volts necessary the light will stay lit with trailer connected and you will get the number readout as well when you apply the brake pedal or manual override.
To determine why the black wire is not getting power, I recommend you check the fuses for corrosion and test it by running a jump wire directly to the battery. If this solves it, you may consider running a permanent wire to the battery and using a circuit breaker like # PK54530 to protect your systems.
