Question:
Hello. I have a 2019 GMC Terrain SLE with Trailer Tow Package and a 2.0 Turbo engine. I would like to add an electric brake controller. Am I better off with a model like the 90885 or the 80550? What is the difference between the two? Thanks

Hello Patrick,
Between the 2 brake controllers that you mentioned I would go with the the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 # 90885. The main reason is because the Pro Series Pilot # 80550 is time delayed, so there will be a delay from the time that you hit your brakes in your GMC for the brakes to be applied on the trailer. Honestly, I am surprised that they still make the time delayed brake controllers. The Tekonsha P2 # 90885 is a proportional brake control, meaning that it works at the same time that you apply your brakes in the GMC. If you want a brake controller in the vehicle to stay on the right side of the law then the # 80550 will be great; if you want a brake controller that is going to be safe and stop your trailer when you need it to stop, then get the # 90885. Also, I looked to see if there is a vehicle specific pigtail for the 2019 GMC Terrain and there is not, so the controller will need to be hardwired in. The universal pigtail that you need is included with the # 90885, if you do decide to go with the # 80550 then you will need to also purchase the pigtail # 7894.
