Solution for Replacement Hub With L68149 and 2585 Bearings

Question:

I have a older trailer that I need new hubs for, it has a tapered spindle and the bearing sizes are: 1 3/8 ID on the inside bearing and 1 5/16 ID on the outside bearing. The old hub looks like fingers and the wheel rim bolts on with metal tabs like a 18 wheeler rim. Can you help

Based on your description it sounds like you have an old mobile home hub and axle. Also, based on those measurements it sounds like you have # L68149 (inner diameter 1.378") and # 2585 (ID 1.313") bearings. This is not a standard bearing combination so there are no hubs that will fit. This is pretty typical for mobile home axles.

The only solution would be to replace the axle so you can use standard bearings and hubs. To find a replacement you will want to know the capacity as well as the hub face to hub face measurement. With these pieces of information you can find a replacement if there is one.

If nothing matches the length, you can use an axle-less system like the Timbren Axle-Less Trailer Suspension system # ASR3500S05. These will fit any frame width so you don't have to worry about the axle length. This particular Timbren has a 3,500 lb capacity. You would need to choose the correct capacity for your application. Some come with idler hubs already like the # A35RS545.
