Video Transcript for Timken Replacement Trailer Wheel Bearing Feature Review

Hi there, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a quick look at this Timken replacement 2788 trailer wheel bearing. This is a high-quality tapered roller bearing. If you're not familiar with the Timken name, it is one of the most well known and highly trusted brands in the industry because their products are engineered with higher quality controls which ensure tighter tolerances and run out than your other manufacturers. That's gonna help reduce vibrations and noise and lead to a longer bearing life when you have it properly installed. That higher quality is evident even in the way this is packaged as it comes individually packaged and already oiled to help keep everything moving smoothly.

Of course, you will have to pack this before you put it into use with your grease or whatever it is that you're using for lubrication in your application, but very high quality product here coming from Timken. This is going to fit with your industry standard number races. You can see that we do have that 2788 number right here on the edge that's printed on that inner circle or cone there. So if you see that original 2788 on the bearing that you are replacing, you'll know this is gonna fit for you, but this is going to work as an inner bearing for the hub number that you see on the screen there. So that's another way to tell if this is gonna be right for your application.

This is also going to work with the matching races that you see on the screen there. So if you have any of those, you can trust this is gonna work for you. If none of those methods of identifying your replacement are working for you, if you can't find those numbers anywhere, the only other way to tell is by measuring your inner diameter here and that is a very precise measurement. So you wanna use some digital calipers and you can see that ours is right at 1.500 of an inch. So make sure if you can't identify your race or your hub, but you measure that and get that precise measurement there, this is gonna be a really great option for you as long as it's gonna fit in place of that original.

So that completes our look for today. Again, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Thanks for watching.

  • Brake Assembly Needed For A Trailer With Timken 2788 And 1779 Bearings
Hey Matt, I believe you have a 1779 # TMK94FR instead of a 1799. That along with the 2788 # TMK74FR would both be fits for the discontinued 22834 trailer hub, which was rated for 5,200lbs. There unfortunately isn't a compatible hub and drum assembly to fit your spindle so you'd be looking at replacing the axle along with the hubs/drums in order to add brakes. If you want to replace the axle then you'll need to measure from the face of your current hub under the trailer over to the face...
