Sturdy, Built-to-Last Tow Bar

Demco Built to Last Commander II

The Commander tow bar is tough and built to last. Sturdy, modular steel construction offers the strength you need to pull up to 6,000 lbs. Two hitch pin holes allow you to position the tow bar closer to or further from your RV, without sacrificing load capacity.

The black powder coat finish protects against the elements and flying road debris. And stainless steel inner arms provide additional durability and allow for smooth operation. Quality-engineered pivot points and hardware ensure both strength and maneuverability.

Demco Built to Last Commander II

Fast, Easy Hookup

Demco Fast Easy Hookup

With independent, easy-to-maneuver arms, the Commander makes connecting your towed vehicle to your motorhome a breeze. Unlike most tow bar arms that move together along a single plane, the Commander tow bar arms operate completely separately from one another. A vertical bolt through the head of the tow bar keeps the arms positioned one on top of the other, allowing for a more fluid hookup. The arms pivot horizontally on this bolt, allowing for an unlimited spread so that you can hook up to base plates with almost any spacing. A built-in joint at the base of each arm allows for vertical movement so that you don't have to tilt the entire head when positioning the arms.

The arms telescope for easy extension to your base plate connection points, even if your towed car is not perfectly aligned with your RV. The self-supporting design of the arms also allows you to telescope one arm out and attach it to the base plate without having to worry about supporting the opposite arm at the same time. The arms lock into place when you're ready to tow, and the extra length of the arms allows for a better turning radius. By putting more distance between your motorhome and your towed car, your entire setup will become easier to maneuver so that your towed car will track behind your motorhome without running the risk of hitting your RV during turns.

Non-Binding for Simple Disconnect

Demco Non Binding Arms

The built-in trigger releases make it easy to disconnect the Commander. Tension can build up in a telescoping arm when the RV and towed vehicle are not perfectly aligned. Engaging the trigger on each arm releases pressure and allows the arms to telescope freely, making it easy to disconnect the tow bar from the base plates, even if you are at a hard angle or out of level.

Each trigger release latch is positioned on the side of the tow bar arm. This allows for a comfortable yet firm grip, unlike latches that are positioned on the tops of tow bar arms, which can be difficult to grab. This out-of-the-way placement of the latches also creates a clean look for the tow bar.

Base Plate Compatibility

Excalibar II on Jeep Cherokee

Towing your vehicle behind your motorhome is simple and stress-free with the Commander, especially when paired with Demco custom-fit base plates (sold separately). Victory Series tow bars are designed specifically for use with Demco Classic and Demco Tabless base plates, which means they allow for easy hookup without the need for a bulky crossbar.

When using the Commander with Demco Classic base plates, simply place the lugs inside of the base plate brackets and use the included pins and clips to secure each arm in place. Demco Tabless base plates include brackets that mount on each tow bar arm, eliminating any protruding brackets from your vehicle and allowing for a quick, quarter-turn hookup of each arm.

If you have base plates from a different manufacturer on your towed car currently, an adapter may be available. Demco makes adapters for use with other manufacturer's base plates so that you don't have to go through the added hassle of replacing the connection points on your vehicle.

Straight, Vinyl-Coated Safety Cables Included

Demco Tow Bar Safety Cables

Two straight, vinyl-coated safety cables provide added protection should the tow bar ever disconnect during towing. The cables are held off the ground by the included mounting clips. These clips keep the cables from dragging on the ground, preventing damage and tangling. Steel S-hooks with spring-loaded latches connect each cable to your towed vehicle's base plates and to your motorhome's trailer hitch.

Demco Tow Bar Cable Storage Rod

The tow bar also offers a convenient storage rod for securing your coiled electrical cord (sold separately). The rod holds your power cord neatly out of the way and up off the ground.

Versatile, Secure Storage

Demco Tow Bar Storage Postions

Independent arm movement also allows for storage versatility. Easily store the tow bar out of the way, alongside your RV. The arms can be folded up to the right or to the left, or you can fold one arm to each side so that they are parallel to your motorhome's bumper. Just pivot each arm into position and a peg at the base of the arm will snap into a built-in tab, latching the arm in place so that you don't have to worry about it coming unfolded during travel.

For added protection, slip on the Demco tow bar cover (DM9523042 - sold separately) while the tow bar is folded up either to the left or the right against your RV.

Guide to Flat Towing

Flat towing your vehicle is much more convenient than using a trailer or a tow dolly. These other options take up much more storage space, leaving you less room both at home and at the campsite. In addition, securing your vehicle to a trailer or tow dolly can be a hassle and more time consuming than hooking up with a tow bar.

There are 5 basic components needed when flat towing a vehicle: a tow bar, a base plate kit, a safety cable set, tow bar wiring, and a supplemental braking system.

Towing Basics

The tow bar links your towed car to your motorhome. It attaches to the custom-fit base plates that install on the frame of your towed car. Safety cables ensure that your towed car does not separate from your motorhome in the event that your tow bar becomes detached. Tow bar wiring allows your towed vehicle's signal lights to sync up with your motorhome's tail lights, which is required by law in most states. Finally, the supplemental braking system - also required in most states - brakes your towed car when the brakes in your motorhome are activated, preventing wear on the motorhome and decreasing braking distance for your entire setup.

Video Transcript for Review of Demco Tow Bars - Hitch Mount Style - DM9511012

Today we're going to take a look at the Demco Commander 2 RV mount, non-binding tow bar for a two inch hitch. It has a 6,000 pound gross towing weight capacity. Now this tow bar will let you tow your vehicle safely and securely behind your motor home. It's designed to slide into your two inch trailer hitch receiver opening on your RV. So there's no ball mount necessary to attach it. If you notice, it does have two hitch pin holes here on the shank, which will allow you to position the tow bar either closer or further from the RV.

It does use the telescoping self-supporting arms, makes her a fast easy hookup.Basically these arms won't fall to the ground when they're unfolded. On some tow bar systems, you have to balance both arms at the same time and support them to hook them up. Now, this does also give you full horizontal articulation. You can see right here, you can spread them as far as you can. It allows for unlimited spread to fit your application.

Easy hookup. It is a self-aligning design. You just hook up and drive your RV forward, and the stainless steel inner arms will extend into a rigid tow-ready position, and automatically lock into place. So you can see right now they just extend out. And when they get far enough, it'll lock it into place.

Same way on this one. Now, it is a non-binding design, so it allows you to easily release your vehicle, even on unlevel ground. It has a trigger release on each arm right here you can see. That makes easily to activate the arms, even when it's under pressure. So in other words, if you're not perfectly aligned behind your RV and there's some pressure on them and if they get hard to release, all you have to do is push in on this trigger. And the arm will release.

Just like that. Now when you do install this, there's no need for a high-low adapter on most setups. It does have an adjustable head that can be adjusted to tilt up or down three inch . In a three inch range to keep your tow bar parallel with the road during towing. The shank itself has a built-in . You can see it drops, has a built-in one and a half inch drop. Or you can unbolt and flip it over, and get a one and a half inch rise for additional adjustability. The finish on this as a nice even e-coat finish, provides corrosion resistance. You can see these integrated cable mounting clips on each arm. They'll keep these included safety cables off the ground to prevent any dragging. And you can see the safety cables that they include are nice vinyl coated cables, and includes these large steel S-hooks with the spring loaded latches for added security.Right over here, you'll notice this rod. This is a built-in storage rod that'll keep your coils, electrical cord in place and off the ground. So once you hook up your electrical cord and you have extra coils, instead of it hanging, you can run the coils up, pull this clip out, run the coils on this rod, put the clip back in. And it'll all hold it into this position. Now, the electrical cord is not included. That is sold separately. Also when you go to store this when you're not towing, it's a very simple secure storage alongside your motor home. And it offers you three positions. The arms can be folded up, and both arms can be scored to the left. Or you can put both arms to the right. Or they can be split with one arm to the left, one arm to the right. And if you'll notice these red plates here have holes in them, and these pins right here is what'll latch into there. So they'll lock into place so they won't move around. This is made in the USA. Just a few specs on this, the compatibility of this. This will work with the Demco Classic and tabless vehicle specific base plates. And it also can be adapted for use with the Blue Ox Dunkin Reese Roadmaster base plates. Those adapters are sold separately, and we do list them on this product page as related product. Again, the application is this fits into a two inch by two inch trailer hitch receiver opening. Few measurements on this, the arm length which will measure out on the fully extended position. So from this rear hitch pin hole, the furthest one or the closest one to the edge right here. From the center of that to the pin right here when it's fully extended is 51 and three quarter inches. When it's fully retracted, that measurement from the center here to the pin is going to be 39 and a quarter inches. The distance from this hitch pin hole to where this curve, you can see the drop right here where this curve starts. From the center of this to that curve is about five and a half inches. From this hitch pin hole to the vertical bolt right here in the head, it's about 12 and a half inches. And the distance between the two hitch pin holes is about two inches center to center. Does include the pinning clip. So when you do slide this in, you can put the pinning clip in to hold it into place. It does come with a nice operator's manual to describe how this works and how it installs. Weight capacity you get on this is 6,000 pounds. Total weight of this tow bar is about 41 pounds. But that should do it for the review on the Demco Commander 2 RV mount non-binding tow bar for a two inch hitch, with a 6,000 pound gross towing weight capacity.
